Etymology

From Old Irish tosach (beginning),[1] from Proto-Celtic *towissākos, from either Proto-Indo-European *wedʰ- (lead) or *weyd- (know, see). Akin to taoiseach. Compare Scottish Gaelic toiseach/tòisich.
