Athelstanus[1] sive Ethelstanus[2] (Anglosaxonice Æðelstān; natus anno 895; mortuus die 27 Octobris 939) fuit rex Anglorum ab anno 924.

Memoria
Athelstanus fuit filius maior natu regis Eduardi. Die 2 Augusti 924, patre mortuo, nominatus est rex Merciae. Eo tempore frater eius Elfwerdus fit rex Occidentalium Saxonum sed mortuus est eodem anno. Athelstanus fit rex omnium Anglorum et Saxonum die 4 Septembris 925. Titulum "regis totius Britanniae" (Anglosaxonice Brytenwalda) paulo postea sibi vindicavit.
Athelstanus fraterque suus Edmundus pugnaverunt maximo cum successu apud Brunanbyri (Anglosaxonice Brunanburh) anno 937 contra tres reges, nominatim Anlaf III (rex Eblanae), Constantinus II (rex Scotiae), Eugenius (rex Cumbrorum). Athelstanus mortuus est sine prole die 27 Octobris 939; Edmundus fit rex.
