Leo III (Graece: Λέων Γ' ο Ἰσαυρóς) fuit Imperator Romanus Orientalis ab anno 712 ad mortem. Circa annum 680 natus et 18 Iunii 741 mortuus est.

Leo circa annum 680 in Commagene natus est. Miles fuit sub Iustiniano II, sub Anastasio II legatus factus est.

Anno 717 seditionem contra Theodosium III, qui eo tempore Imperator Romanus Orientalis fuit, fecit et Byzantium procedens imperator novus evocatus est.

Theodosius III imperium deposuit et Leo III imperium incruente capere potuit.

Anno primo imperandi Leonis Arabes Imperium Romanum Orientale invaserunt. Sed post unum annum Arabes se receperunt. Cum Arabes annis 726 et 739 iterum invadere conati sunt, rursus victi sunt, denique apud Acroenum.

Maxima reformatio Leonis fuit constituendum edictorum complurium de Iconoclastia, Leo icones colere prohibuit.

Anno 727 seditio causis religiosis mota in Graeca a classe imperatoris victa est. In Italia controversia gravis inter Leonem III et papas Gregorium II et Gregorium III evenit.

Simul seditio Ravenna facta est, quam Leo III classe magna vincere voluit, sed tempestatis causa consilium omissum est, ut Ravenna se a Imperio Romano Orientali solvit.
