Grants:APG/FDC recommendations/2016-2017 round 2/Certification
The Wikimedia Foundation has a responsibility to ensure donor funds are spent responsibly and in pursuit of our mission. To that end, the Foundation has created an advisory Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) with the goal of supporting the effective allocation of movement funds for the purpose of achieving Wikimedia’s mission, vision and strategy. The FDC has now finalized and published its 2016-17 Round 2 funding recommendations.
The Foundation has developed compliance standards for funds eligibility and reviewed each fund-seeking entity in accordance with those standards. Only entities that substantially met the compliance standards were approved to submit funding requests to the FDC. This round, four entities met these standards and submitted funding requests. In addition, the Foundation submitted its draft annual plan for the FDC to review.
The Foundation provided the FDC with analyses evaluating the financial statements, annual plans, and budgets of all fund-seeking entities, to assist the FDC in assessing each entity’s organizational maturity and ability to plan and execute.
The FDC, supported by the Foundation, evaluated each fund-seeking entity’s plan for alignment with the mission and strategic goals of the Wikimedia movement, as well as the plan’s potential for impact.
I, Katherine Maher, Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation, hereby certify that the FDC 2016-17 Round 2 financial funding allocation recommendations meet the Wikimedia Foundation's fiduciary obligations and due process for that part of the process, and is consistent with the mandate of the FDC.
I acknowledge the FDC also provided additional comments about the Foundation’s draft annual plan. The Foundation has reviewed these comments and will respond to the FDC on the specifics of their comments. We will take these comments into consideration as I discuss the Annual Plan with the Board of Trustees for their final approval.
