English/Dutch translations

Dear Mathonius, I am contacting you to introduce myself. My name is Jessica Robell and I have recently joined the Wikimedia Foundation as a part of the fundraising team. My work will be focused to a large extent around translations. I am very interested in finding engaged Wikipedians, such as yourself, who would be interested in contributing with their time to translate shorter messages from English to Dutch. We have for example recently put up a 'Thank you letter' from the Wikimedia Foundation's ED Sue Gardner for translation, using the translation extension. You can find the letter here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-Fundraising%2FTranslation%2FThank+you+email+20131202&action=proofread&filter=translated&language=nl I would be most grateful to get your help to translate/proofread this letter in order to develop a quality translation in Dutch.

Furthermore, in addition to using the translation extension, my aim is to develop a few personal contacts to whom I can reach out with potential questions regarding a particular word choice etc. As an engaged Wikipedian, I would be very interested in hearing your view on this.

Thank you very much for your support. I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Jessica Robell Global Fundraising Coordinator Wikimedia Foundation Jrobell (talk) 09:22, 31 December 2013 (UTC)jrobellReply

Hi Jessica, thank you for your message, and apologies for not responding quickly.
I've looked at Sue's letter, and I've made a few more improvements. I think it's ready for publication now, although there's one sentence that's difficult to translate properly, about employers matching the donations of their employees. I'll ask ErikvanB, a professional translator and fellow contributor to the Dutch Wikipedia, to take another look. In case you're interested in hearing my thoughts on the translation work on Meta-wiki, I have to say that the source texts are often not easily translatable. For example, unrelated to the fundraising efforts, the new privacy policy draft contains some complex phrasing which is nearly impossible to translate properly. Easily translatable texts are often written clearly and have a simple structure.
I'd love to help you with such questions. I'm not a professional translator, but I enjoy learning about languages, etymology et cetera, and I'm an occassional contributor to the Dutch and English Wiktionary projects. There's a Taalcafé (which roughly translates to 'language bar') on the Dutch Wikipedia, where discussions about for example language and grammar take place. If you're looking for input from multiple knowledgable contributors, then that's the place you should visit, but feel free to leave me a note when you have questions related to the Dutch language and/or English-Dutch translations.
Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 17:54, 16 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mathonius Hi! Thank you so much for your feedback. This is really helpful. In addition to actual translation work, would you be interested in working with us on the development of alternative fundraising messages in Dutch? Also, ErikvanB, I would be most grateful to get your help on this. Thank you to you both!Jrobell (talk) 14:44, 17 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your reply, Jessica. What kind of help are you looking for? Specifically, what could I do? Mathonius (talk) 01:44, 18 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mathonius Hi! What I would be delighted to get your help with is to give us feedback on our English fundraising message and collaborate with us to develop alternative messages in Dutch that we could test live on the Wikipedia page during the week of the Dutch fundraising campaign. Our objective is to, not only develop quality translations of our English fundraising banner, but also develop messages that are well adapted to specific language and culture codes. If you could provide me with your email address I can send you a simple form to fill out and tell you more about our needs. I would highly appreciate your contribution. Kind regards, Jrobell (talk) 08:51, 20 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Okay. I've sent you an email. Mathonius (talk) 16:05, 21 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Confused

Hi Mathonius, I am perplexed as to why you, on Wikiquote, thanked me for speedy tagging a spam page instead of deleting the page, or thanking me, then deleting the page? --Goldenburg111 22:51, 30 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Goldenburg111, I dealt with the IP address used to create that page on a lot of wiki's this evening. I deleted the spam on some wiki's, but I later noticed they also created the page on the English Wikiquote, so I thanked you for tagging that one. I'm not a local administrator there nor am I allowed to perform a deletion there as a steward (except of course in case of emergency). We'll have to wait for a local administrator to take care of it. Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 23:19, 30 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
thank you for responding, also, is this report appropriate: User:Goldenburg111/Reports/Wikiquote Vandalism Statics? --Goldenburg111 19:43, 1 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Perform Checkuser

Is it okay if you checkuser the IPs that have (?) here: User:Goldenburg111/Reports/Wikiquote_Vandalism_Statics/IPs_that_are_sockpuppet? Also, I have added my report into your list of reports. Thanks. --Goldenburg111 17:51, 2 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

It looks like Vituzzu already took care of this. Please consider filing future checkuser requests at SRCU. Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 18:05, 2 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Unblock me

Please see Steward requests/Global. BTW: This[1] was not me, but someone else this IP address. Cheers, 193.5.216.100 16:30, 13 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

User:Reception123 and User:Receptie123

Hello, user Reception123 and Receptie123 are not clones. I have changed my username on a few Wikis to Reception123 and I haven't on some. --Reception123/Receptie123 (talk) 14:10, 1 April 2014 (UTC) Can you also please note that this IP (87.64.25.26) is not mine. If you do not believe me, ask for a checkuser. --Reception123/Receptie123 (talk) 04:58, 2 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Reception123, thanks for your clarification. I've only listed both these accounts, because they're separate accounts that you've used, and I'm not trying to suggest that they're sockpuppet accounts. A checkuser investigation on the English Wikipedia has already confirmed that the IP address belonged to you. Mathonius (talk) 13:19, 2 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ok. Thank you for the prompt reply. --Reception123/Receptie123 (talk) 18:40, 7 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Global block for 80.195.63.117

Dear Mathonius, on the 8th of April you blocked this IP address for a month, but I'm afraid he's back. Besides adding future dates he now also creates silly pages like this and this one. Could you please take all necessary steps to put an end to this madness. Thank you. ErikvanB (talk) 02:01, 1 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Done. -- Tegel (Talk) 03:01, 1 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. ErikvanB (talk) 15:28, 1 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi Erik, thanks for reporting, and Tegel, thanks for taking care of business. Kind regards, Mathonius (talk) 20:38, 1 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome, Mathonius. ;-) ErikvanB (talk) 01:25, 2 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

StewardScript

Hello Mathonius. I updated your global.js page to the latest version of StewardScript. This is mainly to enable automatic updates, but it also includes a few fixes. If you notice any problems or have questions, let me know! :) —Pathoschild 04:11, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Stewardverkiezingen

Hey Mathonius,

Ik kwam juist op Stewards/Elections 2015/Statistics en de link naar die tool ("You can see a live breakdown of the elections with this toolserver tool.") is blijkbaar nog niet vervangen door de juiste link op Labs... Weet jij daar meer van? Kthoelen (talk) 10:58, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hoi Kthoelen, goed dat je erop wijst. Shanmugamp7 heeft inmiddels de Labs-versie gevonden. Mathonius (talk) 20:01, 15 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Gebruikersnaam

Bah. WeiaR (talk) 21:41, 17 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Scappoose?

Does that town name ring a bell at all? We're curious.

Updated scripts

Hi Mathonius. I edited your global.js to update you to the latest version of force ltr and StewardScript, which are compatible with the latest MediaWiki changes and reside on the Wikimedia Tool Labs for easier updates. I also updated various deprecated functions. Let me know if anything breaks. :) —Pathoschild 13:38, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Pathoschild, alright, thank you! :) Mathonius (talk) 16:00, 19 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Contributions

Thanks for your message. Regarding th Oromoo Wikipedia, I help a native speaker in dealing with all the Wikipedia codes, categories and templates. ometimes, an article has that but lacks information, do not worry because the other user has to translate information, but he hasn't got time to contribute these days. Regarding the other other, if you think any article in Volapük needs to be deleted, feel free to do so. I am sorry for causing trouble. --Katxis100 (talk) 08:33, 1 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that anyone with access to nonpublic information sign the new confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have access to nonpublic information and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. The general confidentiality agreement is now ready, and the OTRS agreement will be ready after 22 September 2015. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum(_AT_)wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 15 December 2015 (OTRS users have until 22 December 2015) to retain your access to nonpublic information. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

I am the First Administrator of Sindhi Wikipedia and have been blocked

Dear Elfix, I am the first-ever administrator of Sindhi wikipedia sd:Main Page. I was the only administrator active since 2006.

Yesterday, I've become victim of a recent administrator (temporary), https://sd.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%8A%D9%88%D8%B2%D8%B1_%D8%A8%D8%AD%D8%AB:%D9%85%D8%AD%D9%85%D8%AF_%D9%85%D8%AC%DB%8C%D8%A8 who has blocked me for one year without any notice. I wonder, how a temporary administrator can block a Permanent Administrator. The user https://sd.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D9%8A%D9%88%D8%B2%D8%B1_%D8%A8%D8%AD%D8%AB:%D8%B9%D9%84%D9%8A_%D9%86%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%B2

has vandalized the Main page, removing almost all prominent features maintained be me and has made the Sindhi Wikipedia a Religious Platform with unilateral extremist religious islamic views, without any references.

It is therefore requested that I may be returned all my RIGHTS of ADMINISTRATION back.
