Discussion
Hi @Reda,
I am happy to help, but have some additional comments first.
SheSaid banners in general run on a low diet on the Wikipedia (to get Wikipedia editors to start on Wikiquote), not only on Wikiquote as in your request above. I can turn it on for the Arab Wikipedia ahead of the general start of the SheSaid campaign, but last time I created a banner for the Arab Wikipedia I received complaints that the CentralNotice banners were not visible, and I think it is the piece of code in line 1032 and 1039 of the Arab Wikipedia common.css that hides all CentralNotice campaigns to the project. Has there been a community consultation on this? I'd like to read the discussion and reasons for the decision.
About the banner design your created: CN banners don't run from the front but from the server side and therefore have to be scripted in HTML/CSS. Information like in the general SheSaid campaign is what I need, though 1) a line of text 50-70 characters max, 2) a visual (not too detailed) and 3) one landingpage link (in the same language as the text) is already enough for me to create the banner. My coding abilities are limited and I don't know how to create links to multiple pages in one banner though. Also, as explained in the banner guidelines, we do not link to non-Wikipedia sites directly from the banners. The two Google docs in your design can definitely not be in the banner: they can of course be on the landing page if you choose so. Ciell (talk) 16:23, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- This gadget not only hides fundraising banners, but all CentralNotice banners: w:ar:MediaWiki:Gadget-HideFundraisingNotice.css. Romaine (talk) 09:44, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, maybe that is the blocker Romaine, thanks! I see it was created back in 2008 and that was before we used the banners for something else than just fundraising requests. A small code change would do the trick, right? Ciell (talk) 09:54, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you both! After an extensive discussion with the group, we have decided to place the banner on both the Arabic and English Wikiquote. For the Arabic Wikipedia, we plan to request a mass message targeting the 1000 most active editors. I have also removed the external links from the banner itself. Can we proceed with this? Reda Kerbouche (talk) 09:50, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Reda Kerbouche,
- There are a few complicating factors here.
- The general SheSaid banner is already targeting those with Arab interface setting, and directing them to the general SheSaid page where this is the page for the Arab version of SheSaid. If I need to target the UAE with a separate banner, this would mean that the general Arab banner settings need to be changed to country specific targeting as well. This is going to be a lot of work to set up for me, and there is a big risk in missing out on Arab speakers not in those countries. This is a choice the international team can make, and I'll leave this to you.
- Furthermore, the banner needs to be in HTML/CSS, as I explain in my second paragraph above. At the moment I don't have time nor the skills to design a banner as in your design. This is wikicode, not HTML/CSS as explained on the CentralNotice Help page.
- Alternative: I think the easiest solution would be to add the UAE page to the general SheSaid landingpage on Meta, and making sure the Arab translation is updated, because that will be where people end up when they click on the banner Arab translation of the general banner. Ciell (talk) 19:27, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Reda Kerbouche,
- Since there are no more response here, I am going to close the request. I do hope your campaign will be successful nonetheless! Ciell (talk) 10:17, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Afek,
Great to have SheSaid back, and happy to help set up the campaign and banner.
Like last year, we will only enable the campaign for those languages in which the banner + landing page has translations. Can you please supply me with a list of these before the expressed starting date of the campaign? I will try and create a preview of the banner for you to check out over the weekend. Ciell (talk) 16:39, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hello Ciell,
- Sorry for the late answer and thank you for your help.
- The participating languages areː
- Afek91 (talk) 09:50, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the list @Afek91. All of these start on Sept 1st?
- Here is a preview of the banner, I tried to make it resemble the mock up above as much as I can. Please review and tell me what you think.
- Meanwhile, you and the colleagues can start translations ahead of the start of the campaign here. Ciell (talk) 18:31, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- Also:
- campaign for the banners on Wikiquote (no diet)
- campaign for the banners on Wikipedia (very restricted diet, will show 4 times every 28 days per user per project)
- I am proposing the Wikipedia banner to start on Sept 2nd, because the WLM banners will also already go live on the 1st. Does that make sense to you? Ciell (talk) 18:49, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. Yes all start on the 1st of september.
- Okey with the banner and it all makes sence.
- Cheers! Afek91 (talk) 17:36, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Great, I enabled both campaigns to start as scheduled. Ciell (talk) 16:03, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

@دنيا please don't forget to include your request on CentralNotice/Request (per step 3) next time [1].
And please provide the banner code (a mix of html and css like this) or provide an icon and a simple line of text if you want us to use the standard banner (preview).
Also per CentralNotice/Usage guidelines banner campaigns lasting longer than two weeks usually need community approval. And if you want to reach out to multiple language versions, we usually require translations for all those languages. Looking at your landing page it seems to aim at minorities in the Arab world – is there a reason why you want to target logged-out (and logged-in) users all around the world? --Johannnes89 (talk) 06:30, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Johannnes89, thank you so much for your response.
- Noted on the 3rd step.
- For the banner, I added a text and a logo and you can use them for the banner.
- and for the languages, I did not realise the difference between the countries and the languages, but what I need is to reach Arabic people all over the world as many of them are in non-Arab countries, this is replying to your question, and reach them on Commons. Is that ok for the announcement to be just in English?
- and please, if I need the consent of the commons community approval please send me a link to request that. Best دنيا (talk) 22:16, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @دنيا, we can target users by their location (country, based on their IP address) or by their interface language. If you want to target Arabic users globally, we should choose Arabic as a target language. But then the banner language should be in Arabic too.
- I've created the campaign [2] as well as the current banner [3] (preview [4], mobile preview [5]).
- Please check if the settings are as intended and provide an Arabic text instead of the English one. And if possible please consider using a shorter text to make the banner more concise (which is especially important for mobile devices).
- I don't know where the Commons community usually discusses proposed banner campaigns, that's something the users requesting a banner should know / figure out, probably c:Commons:Village pump? But given that the banner will be more limited than I initially thought I think it should be ok to proceed without community discussion. Johannnes89 (talk) 08:06, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Johannnes89,
- Quick heads up that on Sept 1st also WLM will start their banners on Commons and Wikipedia, these target countries and there are several countries from MENA and Middle East participating. Also SheSaid is going live, targeting Arabic language for Wikipedia (on a very slim diet) and Wikiquote. Please can you take these into consideration for this banners' diet? September always is such a busy banner-month... Thanks! Ciell (talk) 07:08, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks I should have thought about that myself, I reduced the banner diet (but given this campaign targets Arabic language users, I'm not starting it at all without Arabic text, which so far hasn't been provided). Johannnes89 (talk) 07:27, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

@MPossoupe please note that volunteer CentralNotice admins cannot provide you with such metrics, as we don't have access to any data on banner performance. We've mentioned this to the WMF in the past, but so far nothing has been done about it. You'll need to ask people at the foundation (e.g. the team responsible for WMF fundraising banners) who have access to those metrics. --Johannnes89 (talk) 06:35, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Johannnes89, well noted, thanks.
- Can you, please, confirm for the setups requested for the campaign? 1 bucket with 4 banners: banner 1 shown to 70% of the target, banners 2, 3 and 4 to 10% of the target each?
- Many thanks
- MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 07:53, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- @MPossoupe (WMF) I've created the campaign [8] as well as the banners: Main banner [9] (preview [10]), second version [11] (preview [12]), third version [13] (preview [14]), fourth version [15] (preview [16]).
- I've also added the same script which has been used at the last U4C elections, displaying the banner only to users with 300 local edits. Note that that's not the same as the actual criteria (which look at global edits), but given that this was acceptable for the U4C election, I guess it's fine for the board elections as well. If not, I would like to ask you to provide such a script yourself. Volunteer CentralNotice admin capacity is very limited and the WMF should be able to find an employee who could write a more advanced script (most of us would like the WMF to take care of their own banner campaigns in general given the limited volunteer capacity).
- I also changed that the banners translation links to the correct location – please make sure to addd some WMF translations before the campaign starts, because those translations need CN admin approval (without approval the English version will be shown). Johannnes89 (talk) 17:02, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the amazing support @Johannnes89 setting up the campaign and providing the translations links. Well appreciated.
- I have made a small style change on the banner link to have it underline. I have updated the script accordingly, taking into the recent changes you made. Can you please update in your settings?
- The scripts are here:
- Regarding supporting CN admins work, few weeks ago, the Foundation has recruited a staff to support your works.
- Thanks,
- MPossoupe (WMF) (talk) 18:25, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- I know that the foundation has finally recruited a staff member for CN support and I'm very grateful for that. But given that there are currently only 5-6 volunteer CN admins who are at least somewhat active while there are 23 WMF accounts with CN admin permissions, I don't see a reason why the foundation can't handle their CN requests entirely by themselves.
- I've update the four banners [17] (you can use the preview links from my comment above). Johannnes89 (talk) 19:32, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

@Paula I've created the campaign [20] as well as the banner [21] (preview [22]). Please check if everything is correct.
Please note that per CentralNotice/Usage guidelines#Campaign implementation we usually need community consensus for banner campaigns lasting longer than two weeks (especially if they target both logged in and logged out users). Given that geotargeting limits the banner to Uruguay it's probably fine as long as the local community is aware of your campaign. --Johannnes89 (talk) 08:25, 18 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Johannnes89: thank you! Our community is already informed but I'll keep this information in mind next time we asked for a banner. I've change the phrase a little bit. Everything else is OK. Thank you very much again. Best, Paula (WDU) (talk) 14:05, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Adélaïde,
Here is the banner preview, banner code and the campaign with the campaign settings. Please check if the banner looks like you want it to, and if you think it's too yellow (haha) or the image I chose should be changed, please just let me know!
Also, to double check: you do not mention France in your list of countries, is this correct? Ciell (talk) 14:30, 17 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Adélaïde Calais WMFr: could you please also provide a link showing that you notified the frwiki community of your CN request, allowing others to comment on this request (e.g. in case there are objections to the banner). Thanks! Ciell (talk) 19:20, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Ciell, Sorry for the late reply. Yes this design is fine by me. I just wrote a message on the french bistro here. And I did mean to have it shown in France, so I'll correct that and add it to the list. Many thanks ǃ Adelaide Calais WMFr (talk) 16:05, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

The overall design could mirror that of the Mais Povos originários banner, which looked great! There are just a few changes:
Instead of the logo, we'd like to use an image of the wikicontest's prizes, which you can find here. Do you think it's possible? Additionally, the background color should be changed to #8153D6.
Font: Open Sans Light, size 24, black.
Text2: Inscreva-se aqui. Font: Open Sans Light, size 29, white. For the box, the color is #5ED5ED.
As you probably noticed, the instructions are pretty similar to the Mais Mulheres' banner, just different background colors, image and text. Maybe using that one as reference when it's done would make the work easier! Again, thanks a lot for the help! If you have any doubts, please contact me.

See CentralNotice/Request/Mais Mulheres em Teoria da História na Wiki/2024#Discussion, the requested font size / amount of text / image size is likely too large for this request as well. --Johannnes89 (talk) 14:44, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, @Johannnes89:. Can we shorten the main sentence to “Participe do Concurso de Edição Mais Diversidade em Teoria da História na Wiki e contribua para visibilizar conhecimentos dissidentes.” What do you think? I'd like to point out that we're also going to include a MetaWiki landing page in this banner, but we haven't created the page yet. I'll post it here soon. Thanks in advance. Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 18:15, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+): yes of course we can change the landing page link at a later point. I've created the campaign [26] and the preliminary banner [27] (Preview [28]). Please review everything to make sure it's alright. Looking at the mobile version [29] on a smartphone I think this banner should use less text. --Johannnes89 (talk) 06:25, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, @Johannnes89:. We think the writing on the banner looks good. Can we approve it as it is? We won't be creating the event page on MetaWiki anymore, so the landing page will remain as it is here in the proposal. Thank you in advance for your cooperation! Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 14:16, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) we could, but please check the mobile preview [30] again on a mobile device -> the image is really too large for the mobile banner. Three options: 1) don't display the banner on mobile devices, 2) choose a different image/icon (ideally square shaped), 3) choose a different image for a mobile banner and we keep the desktop banner as it is. Johannnes89 (talk) 06:48, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, @Johannnes89: See if this image here makes the banner appear better on mobile devices. Also, in the text that is blank “Inscreva-se”, you can remove the word “aqui”. I hope these changes are enough to achieve a good result. Thank you for all your help! Best regards Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 20:24, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Danielly Figueredo (Projeto Mais+) sorry for the late reply.

<a id="challenge-banner-link"\n\t href="https://www.wikimedia.de/wikipedia-challenge?campaign='+s(typeof(a=null!=(a=f(n,"campaign")||(null!=e?f(e,"campaign"):e))?a:c)==u?a.call(l,{name:"campaign",hash:{},data:o,loc:{start:{line:8,column:64},end:{line:8,column:78}}}):a)+'">

Central Notice admin comments
- @Kai Nissen (WMDE), Merle von Wittich (WMDE), and Elisabeth Mandl (WMDE): I'm really angry about this campaign, in particular that it is disturbing my well-known vacation right now, both as a volunteer and staff member. Why was there a need for that? Why now? Why so rushed? Why in such a poor way? — More or less everything was done wrong:
- The campaign was requested not in the needed time, 10 days in advance. Why? Community CentralNotice admins could have double-checked for such things like broken links which we have now experienced.
- The campaign duration is much longer than most other campaign, 4 weeks instead of 2 weeks. Why? And why at full display? The cycle also seems odd to me, 5 displays but reset after 0 seconds; is that correct?
- The campaign was not aligned with other campaigns in the same window (the problem with the lack in CNR has already been mentioned): As of now, KulTour digital is targeting the very same people. That campaign was requested long before your own campaign: request page. @Christoph Jackel (WMDE): for that reason. Don't you talk between different teams when you intend to run campaign?
- The campaign was targeting users not only in Germany but also in Austria, Switzerland (and South Tyrol; not set, neither is Commons set as requested). Have WMAT and WMCH been involved? @Raimund Liebert (WMAT), Manfred Werner (WMAT), Claudia.Garad, Lantus (WMCH), and Lantus:, please check that and comment plus (dis)approve.
- It doesn't seem that local community has been informed about it beforehand. This is standard for campaigns, especially with such wide reach and long duration. Can you provide a link to the WMDE community portal, Kurier or other communication places in dewiki? According to this discussion, there are also community concerns which should have been addressed beforehand.
- The banner itself is very big, on mobile it covers more than half of the screen. Is this necessary? Why is such an invasive display needed for something WMDE- and not community-related?
- Most problematically, the landing page's main purpose seems to be the collection of email addresses. While linking to external pages outside of Wikimedia projects seems to be accepted when it's a Wikimedia affiliate handled page (guidelines about this might be coming soon), it's absolutely not acceptable to collect e-mail addresses like this in the EU from anonymous users (as this campaign is set now). All the needed GDPR-related extra information about the duration of saves, possibilities for deletions, etc. are not mentioned in the linked form. It is not sufficient to have a link called “Datenschutz” that would tackle these issues.
- Therefore, I have disabled the campaign so that it can be set up appropriately next month. CC @Johannnes89 and Astinson (WMF): —DerHexer (Talk) and Martin Rulsch (WMDE) (talk) 21:48, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
- @DerHexer,
- regarding your points:
- The CN request was indeed very last minute – and my bad that I only did at the request and added it to the calender like Johannnes89 mentioned above. Regarding the timelime: This campaign is quite important for us and as we are targeting not-logged in users we do want to as much distance as possible from the fall campaign.
- The plan for the duration here was that we would monitor the impressions on the landing page and shorten the campaign accordingly if the results were “no longer worth the price” of a CN campaign.
- WMAT and WMCH were informed by @Elisabeth Mandl (WMDE)
- The Kultour does not target the same people as we are talking about logged in and not logged in users. And actually this was another reason to rush the campaign because next to the fall campaign we were also anticipating WLM CNs.
- The banner is the same banner as of 2020. For the sake of costs (like financial and time) the banners were reused.
- This is actually a point that happened too late: we only created a notice in the WMDE community portal at the start of the campaign. We consistently monitored the Kurier at the start of the campaign and reacted immediately, including adapting the landing page within a very short time. In the Kurier discussion, I don't actually see any criticized points that would have influenced the campaign beforehand. Not the point here, but fortunately we are also getting positive feedback on the content of the emails from community members who comment in the Kurier.
- So I would ask you - especially with regard to targeting and the upcoming CN campaigns that address these groups - to restart the campaign asap. Merle von Wittich (WMDE) (talk) 08:51, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- @DerHexer,
- Merle has already addressed most of the points. I'd like to add a few additional comments.
- I was a bit surprised that you wanted to be involved during your vacation. Unfortunately, we were only able to submit the request on the 7th, and Merle informed you on the 8th that there was nothing for you as admins to handle. We viewed it as a positive development that we could rely on WMDE resources at this point.
- Due to your concerns about data protection, I consulted with the relevant colleagues. Our GDPR officers have discussed this exact topic with legal experts, particularly regarding data collection through forms. It was confirmed that at WMDE, we are doing more than what is legally required, which is very important to us. It would already be sufficient to simply reference WMDE’s data protection policy. In addition, we provide a link to ZOHO’s privacy policy, and WMDE’s is listed directly below.
- Regarding data deletion periods, there are no specific requirements since we have a "legitimate interest" in the data. The tool we use, ZOHO Europe, hosts the data on servers within the EU, which was a key factor in our selection process. The purpose of this page is to collect email addresses for the 30-day newsletter that users sign up for. However, this is not about indiscriminate data collection. The email addresses and corresponding names or pseudonyms are stored exclusively in the mailing list and are not added to a central contact list at WMDE. We’ve even implemented a double opt-in process to ensure users can confirm their subscription again. The form itself has not changed in the last four years, only the tool we are using.
- In summary, we are operating at the minimal necessary level of data collection required to send a newsletter. If you have any further questions or concerns after your vacation, we can discuss them with the GDPR officers.
- Since we cannot afford to pause the campaign for too long (to avoid re-targeting the same audiences who have already seen the banners and to prevent overlapping with the autumn campaign), I kindly ask you to reactivate the banners as soon as possible. We've seen excellent results in the first few days, and this is a fantastic opportunity to inform people about the wiki projects and encourage their participation. Surely, this aligns with all of our interests.-Elisabeth Mandl (WMDE) (talk) 14:12, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- I agree that the concerns have been met, especially that the dewiki discussions show community approval and that there's currently no banner campaign interfering with yours. GDPR compliance seems alright to me as well, but Martin is right that we need someone from the foundation to approve the landing page, similar to the required approval for fundraising and survey banners.
- @TAndic (WMF) and JBrungs (WMF): is this landing page by WMDE (asking people to sign up for a newsletter to learn more about Wikipedia) fine for you? Johannnes89 (talk) 18:08, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks @Johannnes89 for the ping, and all for the thorough discussion to meet concerns - I'm glad to see the thought put into the GDPR, as I would have asked similarly to make sure this is being considered.
- Looks good on the WMF side :) - TAndic (WMF) (talk) 12:34, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- @DerHexer,
- The text addressing the inquiries regarding data protection on the landing page was created in consultation with and approved by the two current individuals responsible for data protection at WMDE.--Elisabeth Mandl (WMDE) (talk) 10:30, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
- re-enabled after the concerns have been resolved. Johannnes89 (talk) 15:23, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hey @DerHexer and @Johannnes89 as the daily registration numbers are getting lower, we would like to stop the campaign now to avoid "Bannermüdigkeit". Also WMAT just asked me to lower frequency in order to give there current banner more visibility. Could you stop it?
- Thank you for your support. Elisabeth Mandl (WMDE) (talk) 20:30, 9 September 2024 (UTC)

The dates might still change, that's why this hasn't been added to the CN calendar yet. We can manage campaign & banners ourselves. Priority will be low (banner will only show after other banners running at the same time have already been shown). --Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 08:03, 15 August 2024 (UTC)

- @Pyb, Luc Hervier WMFr, and VIGNERON: I've created the campaign and banner (preview). I'm a little bit confused by the long campaign duration; usually we only approve campaigns for two to four weeks. In the banner text, I can also read about the contest time between 15 August and 27 September—why is it necessary to start the campaign on 1 July? I've reduced the diet to 5 displays every two weeks at max. Please clarify, take a look at everything and ping me for activation. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 09:48, 9 May 2024 (UTC) PS: Nice to see that you my massmail system was mentioned in one of the PDFs. There is another new tool available now, maybe take a look at this one too.
- @DerHexer: yes, the campaign for the banner is long because the contest is long. We also would like to let people know in advance ; especially as with summer vacation the traffic is a bit lower and also to give the opportunity for people to take pictures in advance (some events that are in the scope of the contest happens only during summer).
- Displaying it less often could be a solution, maybe we can also start a bit later (July 15 for instance ?) and ends a bit earlier (20 September) and increase a bit the diet?
- Feel free to ask all the questions you need. Cheers, VIGNERON * discut. 10:39, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- I agree with DerHexer that such a long campaign period is not ideal – especially as the campaign targets both logged in users and readers (who cannot opt out of banners). Running it with a reduced diet might be ok though. Note that per CentralNotice/Usage guidelines#Campaign implementation long campaigns usually require community consensus. Johannnes89 (talk) 11:02, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
- @VIGNERON: I've changed the duration accordingly. Are you okay with the white background? I had to change it because the white background of the logo didn't look good on the general grey background of the banner. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:31, 9 May 2024 (UTC)

- @Bodhisattwa: Ten days in advance is the recommendation for CentralNotice quests. ;) I've created the campaign and banner (preview). Please check everything, approve it and ping me for activation. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 11:35, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- @DerHexer:, it was my fault to not apply earlier. I will definitely keep that mind from next time. The campaign and banner looks ok to me. Please approve the same. Thanks in advance. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 14:51, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

- @DerHexer:, Due to the recent nation-wide internet shutdown in Bangladesh because of 2024 Bangladesh quota reform movement, it has been decided to extended the submission deadline to 15th August. 2024 as many Wikimedia volunteers were and are still struggling with their internet. Is it possible to extend the central notice deadline too? That would be very helpful. -- Bodhisattwa (talk) 17:10, 3 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi @RamzyM (WMF), I've created the campaign and banner for you in time to do all the needed translations. Looking at the banner, you may want to spice up the language a bit? You only get one shot to grab people's attention for the message you want to share... :)) For reference, this was the previous one. Ciell (talk) 18:10, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- Many thanks, Ciell! We'll stick to the wording for now to make translation easier, but I will let you know if that changes :) RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 10:49, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

What is the purpose of the campaign? How will you measure the success of the campaign?
The sixth edition of Wiki Loves Sport (July 17th - September 22th) is organized to improve and extend content related to diversity in sport in the Wikimedia projects, and for this year event it covers in particular:
- Euro Games Vienna (from 17 to 20 July).
- Paris 2024 Olympic games (from 26 July to 11 August).
- Paris 2024 Paralympic games (from 28 August to 8 September) and other.
Given the gaps which is our topic of interest, the campaign is mainly focused on content concerning missing or underrepresented groups in sport (so a special focus on women's sport, LGBTQIA+ communities, para athletics, indigeneous and minorities etc), but as Wikimedians, we appreciate any sports-related content in any language you want to add.
Seeing the affiliate's goal of increasing the diversity, whoever writes +5 articles about female & non-binary athletes and/or binary & non-binary para-athletes, will receive a barnstar and a digital certificate from the main organizer WikiDonne.
What banner(s) will you use? What will be your landing page?

- @Camelia.boban: This request has some flaws:
- Usually, a variation of the standard banner is preferable. See this how-to how to request it. We cannot make good use of full banner GIFs because they either look too small on the desktop or too big for mobile. It's technically much trickier to use different language files instead of texts. I tried my best to find an acceptable version.
- The SVGs have white borders which can be seen on the same-colored background.
- I don't understand the purpose of the slogans. Do you want to add them somewhere to the SVGs? Why are they not part of the file? Do you have a mockup how it should look like? I didn't include them right now.
- Usually, we ask notifications to local village pumps that a campaign will take place. However, since this project seems to be established, this isn't necessary anymore.
- Why is tt (tatar) requested as target language? I didn't include this one because there was no information about it.
- I have created the campaign and banner. Please check the preview (English, Italian) and let me know about it. It would really be helpful to fix the borders of the versions before we enable the campaign. I assume that other variations of the banner will not be available in time. Please ping me how to proceed and when you approve it. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 21:48, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @DerHexer, it is very important to have the banner in French too, as three/four affiliates which signed for participation have this language as the official one. About the purpose of the slogan: it was for having a kinda call to action outside the banner static image that can be translated in different languages. It is hard to do this variation the day before the campaign starts, I will try to do my best at least to remove the banner's white border. Thank you, Camelia (talk) 08:40, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Camelia.boban: The banners were also created for French and Serbian as requested. Apologies that this wasn't clear when I was giving the examples in English and Italian. Looking forward to the removal of the white borders. I don't think that I will find a good place myself where to put the slogan. I neither fits under the image nor at its side (not working on mobile). Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 08:49, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @DerHexer! tt is meant to be shown in Tatar Wikipedia. I can help with localization now Global landing page is translatable, so please link it to Wiki Loves Sport 2024/tt - I will start translating now and our local organizer will complete it later whenever the banner's up. FYI only: Traditionally, we've been using Sitenotice link to our multi-year page @ tt:Википедия:Бәйгеләр/Вики спортны ярата. Regards, Frhdkazan (talk) 14:04, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Frhdkazan: I know ttwiki. ;) However, neither a country where it would be displayed was requested as target, as far as I can see, nor an SVG for the banner was created. Your translation of the banner text is helpful but has to be copied to a new version of the SVG (I'm not an expert in this). Then I can arrange the banner also to show up in ttwiki. Thanks as well for the translation of the landing page! Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 14:33, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @DerHexer: ttwiki's greatest potential audience is in Russia, but around 20-25% global - in Central Asia (mainly) + Turkey + UAE + Germany + USA + Canada + Finland + Australia ... Good to let these diasporas see ttWP community is active in international contests as well.
- As for the CentralNotice: we believe @Camelia.boban & WikiDonne are doing a great job, so happy to support their activities with a standard banner, whenever it's ready. Thanks to you as well. Frhdkazan (talk) 15:02, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you both @DerHexer & @Frhdkazan, graphic design it's not my cup of tea :-D. I removed the white borders from the banners. Camelia (talk) 17:26, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Camelia.boban and Frhdkazan: I have enabled the campaign, but without an SVG for ttwiki I cannot run the campaign there (I would limit it to Russia, China and Poland at first). Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:44, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

- Fortunately, it was only the English version. It is fixed now. Thanks for the ping. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 05:59, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- @DerHexer: Any issue why it is not visible on the Italian Wikipedia? Update: never mind, sorry, maybe was the cache, changing the browser, now I can see it, thank you. Camelia (talk) 07:55, 17 July 2024 (UTC)

- DerHexer, the image in the banner (which also includes all of the text) had "margin-left: 15%;" set. I edited it to set left and right margins to auto, which centers it. Vermont (🐿️—🏳️🌈) 14:30, 1 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Matma Rex & @Vermont Thank you for your help. Camelia (talk) 14:35, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

:) --Johannnes89 (talk) 11:24, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

We'd like to continue the campaign from last year (request). The banner will only be running for two days before the first Wednesday of each month, and will be targeted to users with less than 100 edits. Jon Harald Søby (WMNO) (talk) 08:24, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- @DerHexer you handled this last year right? Do you have time to coordinate again? Ciell (talk) 18:51, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
- Nope, Jon organized it himself. I hope that he will do it for this year again. ;) And as far as I know, they want to reuse the campaign of last year. —DerHexer (Talk) 19:13, 15 February 2024 (UTC)
