Can't make it to Waterford for the Celtic Knot Wikimedia Languages Conference 2024? No problem!

We encourage communities joining remotely to organise local meet-ups in their area. These satellite events are a fantastic way to connect with others, participate in the conference, and foster local discussions and collaborations.

Why host a satellite event?

  • Engage Locally: Bring together language enthusiasts, Wikimedia contributors, and cultural advocates in your community.
  • Participate Together: Watch live sessions, engage in discussions, and contribute to the global conversation.
  • Network: Build and strengthen connections within your local community.

How to host a satellite event

  1. Gather Your Group: Invite friends, colleagues, and community members who are passionate about Celtic, indigenous, and minority languages.
  2. Choose a Venue: Find a comfortable space where you can watch the conference sessions together, such as a community centre, or library.
  3. Set Up Technology: Ensure you have a reliable internet connection and necessary equipment to stream the conference sessions.
  4. Apply for financial support: if you need support to organize your satellite event, don't hesitate to apply for funding through this form as early as possible. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis. You can request up to €500.
  5. Promote Your Event:
    1. Create a page for your event, for example a subpage of this page on Meta, or on Etherpad. On this page, add all the information that the participants need to know (date, time, topics, address or access link...) ;
    2. Add your event in the section below, including the link to your page ;
    3. Share your event on social media and local community boards to attract more participants.
  6. Engage and Share: Take photos, share your experiences online, and join the conversation with the global Celtic Knot community using our official hashtag #CelticKnot2024.

Stay Connected: For any questions or support in organising your satellite event, please contact us at info@wikimedia.ie We look forward to seeing your local communities come together for this inspiring event!
