WikiGap Nigeria Online Challenge
29 April – 27 May, 2020
[Social media: #WikiGap_Nigeria_Challenge]

Welcome to the Wikipedia writing challenge to improve the coverage of Nigerian women on Wikipedia!

  • What: This is a Nigeria public writing competition to create and improve articles that will strengthen Wikipedia coverage of Nigerian women. The winners will receive great prizes. The Challenge is organized as part of the global WikiGap campaign by Wikimedia Nigeria in collaboration with African Women in the Media ( AWIM) and the Embassy of Sweden in Nigeria. It's a build-up to the WikiGap event held in Lagos and Abuja to celebrate International Women's Day which produced 17 Wikipedia biographies on Nigerian women. Due to the prevailing global pandemic and lockdown in Nigeria, we, therefore hosted a 3hr online training via Webinar on Wikipedia for interested Nigerians to be followed by a two-week online contest.
  • When
The online training via Webinar took place on 27 April 2020 and 28 April 2020 between 12:00 to 01:30pm.
The writing challenge will run from 00:01 on 29 April (GMT +01:00) until 23:59 on 27 May 2020 (GMT +01:00).

  • How: The contest is simple in structure, based on a KISS point system: You get points while improving articles, with the goal for each participant to gain as many points as possible.

  • Who: Everybody can help in any language to collaborate on writing articles related to Nigerian women. Any Wikipedian with a named account (on any wiki, including the incubator) can participate. To participate you just need to sign up on the participants section.
