十年有成：開放知識、自由思想
維基百科成立於2001年，2003年起開始快速成長。那時的社群編輯數量已經到達接近 4,000 人，在數十種語言版本之中創立了超過 234,000 篇的文章。當時維基百科仍小，但有個穩固的開始。
那也就是十年前，Jimmy Wales創立了維基媒體基金會。維基百科的頻寬以及伺服器的成本逐漸超過了他個人能夠負擔的範圍，而當時維基百科未來會更加流行與成功的樣態已經十分明顯。所以Jimmy創立了維基媒體基金會來提供維基百科與其姊妹計畫技術方面、法務方面、募款方面、以及行政方面的各種支援。自那時開始，維基媒體基金會提供的支援使得維基百科能夠發展成為一個備受信任以及愛戴的文化機構、一個全世界今日最大的一個知識寶庫。

自從 10 年前設立開始，維基媒體基金會已經成長為一個有兩百位正職人員的組織 — 主要為軟體工程師、產品開發人員、以及社群聯絡人。2012 - 13年對我們來而言，是很精采的一年，主要是因為我們開始開發視覺化編輯器，一項受人期待已久的編輯功能。
如果你曾經想要嘗試編輯維基百科，相信你也經歷過一段學習曲線：過去的經驗顯示，若有想編輯的人，其必須在真正能夠貢獻之前，先學會維基語法。這些語法並不一定很難學會，但是到了西元 2013 年，大家會期望有不需要思考怎麼使用就能使用的操作工具，我們也想要滿足這樣的期望。
因此，我們推出了視覺化編輯器！視覺化編輯器讓編輯維基百科更加簡單、快速，我們希望讓更多新人因此能夠開始貢獻於維基百科之中。視覺化編輯器已經在維基百科的 284 個語言版本中推出，如果你的語言版本還無法使用視覺化編輯器，也快了。我們鼓勵你用用看。如果你發現維基百科裡頭的一個別字或是一項小錯誤，請幫忙修改；如果你知道有些適合放入維基百科的資料，請幫忙加入。有人很滿意現在編輯維基的經驗，我們希望你也會喜歡。
特別讓我們引以為傲的是今年維基百科零點計畫(Wikipedia Zero)之成功，此計畫與行動網路通信商合作，給予其消費者透過手機免費登入維基百科的使用機會。因為零點計畫，今天在非洲、亞洲以及中東地區共有超過 3 億人能夠透過他們的手機使用維基百科而不需支付任何流量費用。2014 年開始，我們將會把拉丁美洲也包括近來。不論你是編輯者或是捐款者（或你兩者都是！），謹代表五億的維基百科與其姊妹計畫的讀者群，我們感激你的支持。這是美好的一年，我們也期待未來是一個好上加好的 2014。
