Interleukin 12B

Interleukin 12 podjedinica beta (isto poznat kao stimulacioni faktor 2 prirodnih ubica ćelija, ili faktor sazrevanja 2 citotoksičnih limfocita, p40) (ljudski gen IL12B) je podjedinica ljudskog interleukina 12.
Ovaj gen kodira podjedinicu interleukina 12, citokina koji dejstvuje na T i prirodni ubica ćelijama, i ima dugačak niz bioloških aktivnosti. Interleukin 12 je disulfidno-vezan heterodimer koji se sastoji od 40 kD podjedinice koja je slična citokin receptoru i kodirana ovim genom, i 35 kD podjedinice kodirane IL12A genom. Ovaj citokin je izražen u aktiviranim makrofagama koje služe kao esencijalni pobuđivač razvoja Th1 ćelija.[1] Za ovaj citokin je nađeno da je važan za održavanje dovoljnog broja memorijskih/efektorskih Th1 ćelija čime posreduje dugoročnu zaštitu od intracelularnih patogena. Pre-izražavanje ovog gena je primećeno u centralnom nervnom sistemu pacijenata sa multiplom sklerozom (MS), što sugerira da ovaj citokin igra ulogu u patogenezi bolesti. Promotor gen polimorfizam ovog gena se zna da je asociran sa ozbiljnošću astme kod dece.[2][3]
Interleukin-12 podjedinica beta je pokazan da ostvaruje interakciju sa interleukinom 23.[4]
