DreamWorks Studios is a California film making company, involved in the creation and marketing of movies, television shows, animated productions, and more. They produced the first three films in the Live-action film series, thus earning a place in our hearts. Or, at least, a place in this wiki.

History

Founded in 1994 by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen, DreamWorks is best known for the Shrek series of films from their spun-off animation division, which were the highest-grossing animated films of all time until Toy Story 3. DreamWorks was purchased by Viacom in 2006, becoming part of Paramount Pictures. During 2008 and 2009, DreamWorks began a painful divorce from Paramount. From 2009 to 2016, their live-action projects were released by Touchstone (that's Disney's banner for grown-up films) although the Transformers franchise remained and continues to be a Paramount co-production. In 2015, DreamWorks was folded into Amblin Partners, who will use it as a label for adult-oriented films. That same year, Amblin announced a distribution deal with Universal Studios.

Notes

  • Despite being involved in the production of Dark of the Moon, its logo was not present anywhere in the film, nor is it credited alongside Paramount Pictures. Spielberg did receive a credit as Executive Producer, a credit which he has retained for every later film in the franchise.
