Synopsis

Heatwave is taking the recruits on a flight in the Sigma. After Whirl asks if it's like the spaceships Hoist repaired back on Cybertron, her fellow recruit spots a flashing warning sign and, believing he knows what it means, accidentally turns the ship's gravity off. Heatwave turns the gravity back on and warns Hoist not to make assumptions in the future. After they head back to Earth, Heatwave gives the recruits the rest of the day off. Wedge, however, has notice that the Sigma only has four command chairs, and points out to the other recruits that if there are five of them and only four chairs, one of them isn't going to graduate. Hot Shot recalls his friend Jetbash, who failed to become a Cube player because there were no open positions on the Iacon Cube team. Compounding their worries, one of their five stasis pods has been removed.

Heatwave is startled by Hot Shot suddenly sucking up to him. Hoist pops up to show off his latest invention, a portable super-magnet, which triggers as he hands it to Heatwave, and causes everything metal to suddenly be attracted to the Rescue Bot. They reach Hero Hall where they find Whirl showing off by trying to fly through a simulated hurricane. The hurricane causes a system overload, cutting off the power, which Medix and Wedge swiftly arriving and boasting about their response time. Heatwave doesn't know what's going on, but tells them that tomorrow's rescue exercise will take place in a volcano. The recruits naturally assume that the results of this exercise will determine who gets eliminated from the training program and spend all night going over how they're going to achieve the rescue. Eventually Medix points out that it's morning and time for the test.

The recruits turn up for the exercise looking a sorry mess, and when Heatwave starts the simulation, Hoist immediately transforms in fright. The rescue does not improve from there, with Hoist's tow line getting caught on Wedge and Medix refusing to transform out of vehicle mode to help. Frustrated at how things are going, Hot Shot transforms to plane mode and picks up Tough Luck Chuck himself. The rescue accomplished, the team rushes for the exit, only to realize that they've left Chuck behind in the lava. The recruits explain to an unhappy Heatwave that it was difficult to work with the threat of a possible expulsion hanging over one of them, and he points out that Sigma ships are built to accommodate as many bots as needed—the recruits have made another assumption and no one is being kicked out. The following day the recruits repeat the volcano rescue, successfully this time. Hoist accidentally triggers his super-magnet again though, resulting in Heatwave and the recruits ending up in a pile.
