Overcast (Movie)
From Transformers Wiki
The name or term "Overcast" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Overcast (disambiguation). |
- Overcast is a Decepticon from the Transformers portion of the movie continuity family.
Overcast gets his name from the dark clouds he generates with his built-in weather controllers. There is no silver lining within, however. This quiet, secretive Decepticon inventor is a dangerous adversary, equipped with a variety of experimental weapons so brilliant that even the Autobots might be impressed-if they weren't busy contending with sudden disabling bolts of electricity or being eaten away by ravenous nanites.

In a divergent timeline, the Decepticons succeeded at Mission City and conquered the United States. Overcast was one of Stockade's "new Decepticons", a group of Decepticons who remained on the dying Cybertron out of patriotism and survived by feeding on Nucleon. Return to Cybertron: Part 1 In order to rebirth their world, they tried to summon a replacement for the AllSpark: an ethereal entity related to the last AllSpark, one which could replace it. He was part of the crew that helped it enter Cybertron, and thus one of the first to learn they'd summoned Unicron into their planet. Return to Cybertron: Part 2
As the planet turned against them, Overcast was nearly killed and had to be saved by Stockade. Left severely pessimistic, he wondered how long they'd stay alive. Return to Cybertron: Part 3 Despite this, he joined the combined Autobot-Decepticon team that entered Cybertron's depths and stopped Unicron by shooting things. Return to Cybertron: Part 4
When Stockade made a deal with the Autobots and arrived to defend Earth, Overcast was part of his air support. He played the vital role of identifying a fulcrum drone to Fracture, ensuring the drones were turned. Revolution Part 2 The New Decepticons quickly began to win, and in the penultimate battle Overcast was tasked with tidying things up (i.e. killing beaten enemies). He also wanted to know if they were really going to take the Decepticon Heartland and then just give Earth back-with Stockade hinting they might not...
It all became academic when they entered the Heartland to find Megatron back from the dead. Overcast ordered everyone into defensive formation before the battle was on. Luckily, the Autobots turned up to do their part of the deal, teleporting Megatron's crew to the dead Cybertron; unluckily, they had noticed the New Decepticons thinking about seizing Earth and teleported them too, leaving Overcast trapped there FOREVER. Revolution Part 3
IDW movie comics
Overcast was one of the Decepticons under Soundwave's command on the Nemesis. During their attempts to prevent humanity from discovering the Ark on the moon, he picked up the Pretender spy after she was done murdering the Russian scientists monitoring the Luna 6 probe. Convergence chapter 2
Overcast was later deployed to Earth by Soundwave to search for the Star Harvester. His transition form landed in Japan, where he was able to scan an appropriate alternate form at a Japan Air Self-Defense Force base before leveling the installation. Alliance #3
Overcast's victory was short-lived, as the Autobot-human alliance systematically hunted down and destroyed the Decepticons one by one. He was shot down by the increasingly multinational NEST forces in Europe. Alliance #4
Toys
Transformers (2007)
- Overcast (Deluxe Class, 2008)
- Accessories: 2 "flame" missiles
- A redeco of the Decepticon Dreadwing mold, Overcast transforms into a MiG-29 "Fulcrum" fighter jet. His afterburners contain spring-loaded missile launchers, which can fire the bright yellow "flame" projectiles in both jet and robot modes. His chest also has a spring-loaded Automorph gimmick, opening up and revealing more robot parts.
- Like Dreadwing, his arms tend to pop off during transformation. This, combined with the weight of his forearms makes the joints get loose very quickly.
- This mold was later used to make Revenge of the Fallen Fearswoop from the Walmart-exclusive "The Fury of Fearswoop" 3-pack.
Notes
- Dreadwing's bio says that he stole his teleportation technology from someone else. Overcast is a redeco of Dreadwing and is described as an inventor in his own bio. Perhaps Dreadwing stole from Overcast?
- With a black, lime and grey color scheme (plus blue "AllSpark Power" highlights), Overcast plays up the Dreadwing design's strong resemblance to Armada Thrust.
- In Alliance, Overcast is depicted as transforming into an F-15 Eagle design used by the JASDF, rather than the Russian MiG-29 of his toy, to better fit his planetfall in Japan.
- Overcast appears in an Easter egg cameo in More than Meets the Eye #35.
