"You are entering the vicinity of an area adjacent to a location. The kind of place where there might be a monster, or some kind of weird mirror. These are just examples; it could also be something much better."

The Shadowzone is an alternate dimension outside the main reality. Its existence means that anyone trapped within it is unable to interact with normal space as they are out of phase and seemingly encased in a limited amount of space.

During a battle against Starscream, the activation of two simultaneous GroundBridges led to the portals feeding off each other at the same moment. Thus, Miko Nakadai, Jack Darby, Raf Esquivel, the Terrorcon Skyquake, and Starscream's severed arm got caught in the resulting explosion which catapulted all of them into a Shadowzone. Whilst Optimus Prime and the Autobots searched for their human friends, Jack managed to alert them of being trapped in an alternate dimension by sending a text to Miko's phone, which was left at the Autobot base. This allowed Ratchet to open a portal with the GroundBridge to allow the three humans to escape the Shadowzone, along with Skyquake's hand which had been chasing them. This left the trapped and undead Skyquake the remaining occupant of the Shadowzone. Shadowzone

Starscream later mentioned that Skyquake was likely still trapped in the Shadowzone while under a cortical psychic patch interrogation session, much to Dreadwing's shock. Patch

After Soundwave GroundBridged the Wreckers off the bridge of the Nemesis, Jack and Miko, the latter in the Apex Armor, boarded the ship. Soundwave attempted a repeat performance, giving Raf the opportunity to open a second GroundBridge, recreating the original accident and trapping the unwitting Decepticon in the Shadowzone. Deadlock

Hey, look at that weird mirror...

While repairing a GroundBridge, Fixit accidentally caused it to malfunction and open a portal to the Shadowzone. Soundwave emerged, and after trashing Team Bee, he threw Bumblebee into the realm. Remembering what had happened last time, Bumblebee managed to contact Fixit via radio. From there, the other team members were able to get Soundwave to accidentally overlap his GroundBridge portals, opening another rift and allowing Bumblebee to return. Soundwave and Laserbeak were summarily defeated and thrown back into their prison. Portals

Soundwave later made contact with a group of Mini-Cons who were capable of opening GroundBridge portals to and from the Shadowzone. Taking them as his minions, he sent them on raids to retrieve Decepticon Hunters from the Bee Team for a project he was constructing within the dimension. He later contacted Steeljaw's Pack through one of the portals, ordering them (on behalf of their "benefactors") to prepare for his arrival back in normal space. Prepare for Departure Soundwave eventually used the combined Decepticon Hunter weapon to break the dimensional barrier between Earth and the Shadowzone in order to escape with his project, a transgalactic beacon generator constructed from wreckage recovered in the Shadowzone. This move was detected by Ratchet, who was studying Shadowzone particles. Following Soundwave's defeat, Hi-Test was encouraged by Optimus to make the Shadowzone his home, as nobody would hunt him there. Collateral Damage
