Smolder (PCC)
From Transformers Wiki
This article is about the Power Core Combiners character. For the My Little Pony character, see Smolder (MLP). |
- Smolder is a Decepticon first seen in the movie continuity family (via the Power Core Combiners line).
Smolder uses the powers granted to him by his new Mini-Con partner, Chopster, to act on all the grudges he's accumulated over the years. And he has a lot of grudges. Everyone's on his list, and everyone will pay. Oh, how they will pay. Preferably via the cutting edge of Chopster's axe mode.
On his down-time from grudge-holding and revenge-getting, Smolder appreciates the destructive beauty of a good structure fire, and can be counted on to add to any he might happen across. In fact, he will interfere—readily and violently—with any attempts made to extinguish it.

Smolder and Chopster arrived on the scene of a huge fire in Scramble City. One of the firemen attempting to put out the blaze asked Smolder's holographic driver to help them put it out, but Smolder instead expressed his love of fire. Chopster then activated his flamethrower and set the building even more ablaze, causing it to explode. The devious duo transformed, and Smolder ordered Chopster to destroy the fire hoses so that Scramble City would go up in flames!
Bumblebee and Ratchet arrived on the scene not long after, and Chopster emerged from the thick smoke and distracted the both of them. Smolder sped out of the billowing smoke and almost rammed the pair. He then braked, allowing Chopster to bathe them in flames. Ratchet was able to knock out Chopster with his EMP, locking the Mini-Con in axe mode. This didn't particularly bother Smolder, who transformed and threw him at Bumblebee. The plucky Autobot dodged the throw then charged Smolder, but the Decepticon proved to be a formidable hand-to-hand combatant. He was able to beat Bumblebee down, but the fight had given Ratchet time to re-charge his EMP blaster. The blast shut down Smolder as he attempted to transform, leaving him stuck halfway transformed to vehicle mode. Cyber Missions #9

Power Core Combiners
- Smolder with Chopster (Commander Class, 2010)
- Known designers: Eric Siebenaler (Hasbro), Andrew Scribner (deco artist)
- Part of the first wave of Power Core Combiners Commander Class figures, Smolder transforms into a fire department brush truck. He also has a secondary "power up" mode, in which he forms a super robot torso; in this configuration he can use the drone-limbs from any 5-pack set to make a new super-robot. His chestplate has a flip-up Mini-Con Powerlinx peg that allows him to use any Mini-Con as chest armor, though the nominal choice is his pack-in partner Chopster. The rear of the fire truck is entirely open when transformed, showing the robot head from the top.
- This mold was also used to make Stakeout.
- During the period between December 26 2010 and January 31 2011, Hasbro ran their "Supercharge Your Holidays" promotion: for every $20 spent on Hasbro-branded product, customers could receive a free, random product from a list provided by Hasbro. Among the items on the list was "Transformers Combiners & Speed Stars Mini Vehicle". According to this discussion thread on Allspark.com, Smolder with Chopster was one of the figures distributed.
- Power Core Combiners Special Value Offer (Value Pack, 2011)
- Smolder was also made available as part of a Walmart-exclusive Black Friday "Value Pack", combining a 5-pack team with a Commander 2-pack via packaging tape and a couple of stickers, for the whopping price of ten bucks, merely a third of what the two toys would normally cost.
- So far, Smolder has only been found attached to the Mudslinger/Destructicons set.
Notes
- As with the cameo Kreon tradition, Kre-O Smolder uses existing Kre-O pieces, in this case the Inferno helmet, and a backpack piece which supports flat 2-by-three pieces which hold two red 2-by-1 pieces and two 1-by-1 pieces to fully replicate the shoulder-stacks of the original version (though as being small and partly stylized, some artistic liberties were taken).
- Unlike the majority of the Power Core Combiners line, no version of Smolder's mold was released in United EX.
