Talk:Renaming
From Transformers Wiki
Why some of the name changes have been removed, like Alpha Trion and Hoist? I wanted this page to be a list of all the name change. I also would like to point out that this page is not about a caracter get his name changed in function of the dub, but about how they change their name inside of the story--GUIGUI 09:26, 12 January 2007 (UTC)!
- I'm not certain such a list is actually feasible. There are a lot of Transformers who've had their names changed, often at hard-to-pin-down points in time (when did Jazz start calling himself Meister?) or in confusing ways (remember when Divebomb stole Divebomb's name and then Divebomb changed his name to Swoop?). Sometimes what appears to be the same character with a new name is later revealed to be a new character. And then you have things like Rhinox/Tankor.
- What's more useful is a page about name changes, showing the kinds of situations where Transformers tend to get new names. To that end, I replaced A3/Alpha Trion and Smokescreen/Hoist with Outback/Fallback and Cyclonus/Snowcat, trying to show a greater variety of name changes. --Andrusi 15:08, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- Jazz changed names when he got his BT Body
- "BT-08 Autobot Special Operations Saboteur(1) MEISTER
- Function... Special Operations Saboteur
- Transformation...Mazda RX-8
- Well versed in Earth culture, Jazz serves as Prime's deeply trusted right-hand 'bot and was one of the very few members of the Autobots' Earth forces to escape the damage of the Cosmic Rust. However, in order to carry out a top-secret investigation related to the very existence of the BT Project, he had his brain transferred into a Mazda-made transformable body, which provided both a better disguise and GT system compatibility, and was reborn as a new Binaltech warrior under alias of "Meister." Working in cooperation with his replica automaton partner, he uses his superior intellect to accomplish any dangerous mission with style.
- Weapons...Photon Rifle, Flamethrower
- STR......5 INT......9 SPD......7 END......7 RNK......8 CRG......9 FRP......5 SKL......10 TOT......60"

- Except that he's always been called "Meister" in Japan. --FortMax 18:58, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed. As that very page indicates, the explanation of the name change was added to the bio by Doug Dlin for the English translation. Moreover, that helps with one specific example, but not the greater problem of characters reappearing under a new name with no explanation. Heck, there's another example of that with the same mold--why was Shockwave suddenly Shockblast in Alternators? --Andrusi 19:06, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
- The explanation seems to originate from Ichikawa, who intended it for American Fans.
- "As with any writing process, the text for the Binaltech booklets are cut down sometimes for space, other times because ideas can change. The translations below were provided by Mr. Ichikawa and translated by Doug Dlin, who has also provided notes where necessary. Enjoy this rare "extra" look into the world of Binaltech.

- Several American-oriented changes were made to this text from the original version. Text was added explaining the name change from Jazz to Meister."
- It's not a not by Dlin because those have an asterisk in front of them on the page. As to Shockblast... well he doesn't exist fictionally :P If that's not a valid explanation it must be a Retcon.
