Synopsis

"Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooold out there today."

Morning in Griffin Rock, and Cody Burns winds his new antique pocket watch. He heads to the kitchen where his family are preparing breakfast in their own unique ways. After Kade burns the toast and Dani accidentally overflows her coffee, Cody heads downstairs to see the Rescue Bots and show off his pocket watch, explaining Deputy Barney gave it to him from the lost and found. Cody turns down his dad's offer of a ride to work in favor of walking, and finds Frankie outside Mrs. Neederlander's house. Mister Pettypaws chases a squirrel onto Mr. Harrison, resulting in him damaging his heli-pack and flying out of control. Cody calls in the rescue team, who manage to catch Mr. Harrison with some teamwork and Blades's scoop claw, and Kade and Heatwave extract Pettypaws from the tree. Finally reaching school, Cody and Frankie watch Timmy have a collision with another student, and during class their teacher, Mr. Schulte, announces a field trip to see the clock tower dedication.

"Sometimes, people just die." "Not today."
As the clock dedication starts, Cody shows off his new watch to Frankie, who's unimpressed with its primitiveness. Chase has to divert Edgar Pruitt's truck. The truck accidentally knocks a fire hydrant, causing a geyser of water that knocks a toolbox from a platform, which sends Mrs. Rubio's car into the side of the tower. The Rescue Bots act quickly and no one is hurt, but as they clean things up, Mayor Luskey complains his speech is ruined. As the clock strikes nine, Cody experiences something odd.

Finding himself back in the firehouse, Cody heads down to the kitchen where his family are preparing breakfast in their own unique ways. Bewildered by everything occurring a second time, Cody heads down to where the Rescue Bots are and tells them about his strange experience. As he correctly predicts, the rest of his family arrives and his dad offers him a ride to school, which Cody again turns down and announces he believes he's gone back in time. Kade wants to know tonight's winning "Lotsabucks" numbers, but Cody points out he's only experienced the following hour once before. Though they're not sure what's happening, Cody suggests they come with him. As they encounter Frankie outside Mrs. Neederlander's house, Chase secures Mister Pettypaws while Blades and Dani monitor Mr. Harrison. Luckily they prevent Mr. Harrison's accident, and Cody fills in the others on the events at the clock dedication. Reaching school, Cody fails in preventing Timmy's collision and explains to Frankie that he believe he's time travelled.

"Don't drive angry! Don't drive angry!"
After class, they head to the lab where Doc Greene is making an energy drink and Cody explains what's happening to him. Frankie thinks it might have something to do with the clock tower being hit, since the clock runs on magno-fusion technology, though Doc is confused as to why it's only happening to Cody. They head to the clock dedication, where the Rescue Bots have secured everything and put up detour signs. Despite this, Mrs. Rubio swerves to avoid a squirrel and Heatwave has to stop her from hitting the clock tower. However as the clock strikes nine, Cody again experiences the time jump.

Heading down to where his family are making breakfast, Cody prevents Kade from burning the toast and Dani from spilling the coffee before announcing they have to head to see Doc Greene. After helping Mr. Harrison en route, they arrive at the lab where Cody begins the inevitable explanation. They figure something else must have damaged the clock. Heading to the clock tower, Kade and Graham climb up to examine the clock's power source. As the mayor begins his speech, Edgar Prewitt's truck is being diverted and Chief is making sure Mrs. Rubio is safely parked. Kade and Graham find the clock's power source covered in nuts, and confirm it's intact.

"There is no way that this winter is never going to end as long as this groundhog keeps seeing his shadow. I don't see any other way out. He's got to be stopped. And I have to stop him."
Cody joins the rest of his class, but soon spots the squirrel scurrying up the side of the clock tower. He runs up the clock tower's stairs and finds the squirrel gnawing on the clock's power cable. He manages to scare it off, but as the clock strikes nine, he loses his balance and falls from the top of the tower. Luckily Heatwave's able to catch him before he hits the ground. Graham confirms that the squirrel would have caused a power surge but when they wonder why Cody was the only one affected, attention turns to his antique pocket watch.

The next morning, Cody comes down stairs and to his relief, it's not the same morning again. Graham returns from the lab with Cody's pocket watch and the news it contains a crystal matching the one from the time machine in the lab. Cody cleans some dirt from the back of the watch to reveal Doctor Morocco's logo and all is made clear.

— The Burnses discuss television and breakfast

"I've already been through this whole morning before. I think I traveled back in time."
"That is so cool! We have to tell my dad."
"You actually believe me?"
"Hellooo, we live in Griffin Rock."

Cody and Frankie

"It's not the height that bothers me, it's just mainly ladders."
"It's totally safe, and lot more fun than going up the stairs."
"Wait, there are stairs?"

Graham and Kade

Notes

Continuity notes

  • Doc Greene's solar car appears again for the first time since "The Other Doctor", in which it was destroyed. Presumably Doc Greene has built a new one since that episode.
  • The time machine mentioned was first seen in "Bot to the Future".
  • Doc Morocco was previously seen incarcerated in "Bugs in the System".

Transformers references

Real-world references

  • Mr. Schulte is an homage to Ben Stein's character from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
  • The repeating time motif is inspired by Groundhog Day, while the clock tower is a reference to Back to the Future, underscored by the reappearance of the solar car patterned after the DeLorean time machine from that movie.
