Please sign your posts to Talk pages. It's easy. Just type four tildes (~~~~), then click Show Preview, and the wiki software will automatically fill in your name and a datestamp.

Signed posts make it much easier to keep track of who said what, and when. Also, if you don't do this, you risk having your posts removed entirely.

Just a note, fiction writeups on character articles should be in past tense, not present tense. --abates 20:10, 2 April 2012 (EDT)

Ed, please slow down on these updates. You are not following the rules of punctuation and the Wiki's policy for writing in past tense, not present tense. It's also difficult to understand some of your sentences. Please take your time before updating a page and make sure your work is grammatically accurate, so that the next contributor doesn't have to come along and do it for you. --Xaaron 15:02, 3 April 2012 (EDT)

Ok Ed 19:30, 29 September 2012 (EDT)
You're still adding stuff in present tense instead of past tense. --abates 17:22, 25 April 2012 (EDT)
Also you should be putting spoiler warnings on stuff which has just come out. --abates 18:29, 25 April 2012 (EDT)

IDW sections

Wait, are you updating information for characters' IDW sections without having read the comics in question? Because that's probably not a good idea. How do you know if you get something wrong? --abates 20:09, 19 April 2012 (EDT)

I have to ask this question as well. Regardless, please put spaces before storylinks. —Interrobang 22:06, 25 April 2012 (EDT)
Dude, spaces before and after storylinks, please. —Interrobang 22:31, 25 April 2012 (EDT)

I've given you a very short block just to stop you. Again, we are forced to ask, are you updating characters' IDW sections without actually having the comics in question? Are you just using the summary in the article? Because your additions are blunt recitation of fact with no attempt to integrate them into the rest of the article, the details you're adding are vague and sketchy, sometimes outright wrong—your summary of the DJD's involvement in the recent issue is almost entirely incorrect—and your grammar and sentence structure are often iffy. Your edits are making work for the contributors who are going to have to go back and fix them so they make sense or fit in with the rest of the articles. - Chris McFeely 17:25, 23 May 2012 (EDT)

Ed, we kinda expected you to answer this question before editing more IDW articles. --abates 23:26, 23 May 2012 (EDT)

I usually get this information from what you posted on the articles summary and sometimes get the comics from a bookstore. Ed

Again, I have to ask, if you're not updating articles from the original source material, how do you know if you get a detail wrong? You don't, so you shouldn't be updating those articles. --abates 17:11, 29 May 2012 (EDT)

Polite suggestions over. Now you are being told - stop editing articles for things you haven't read. - Chris McFeely 18:41, 29 May 2012 (EDT)

You were already told not to edit articles based on comics you haven't read. I can't see how we can make it any clearer than that. --abates 17:46, 30 May 2012 (EDT)

Please tell me you have actually read Broadcast and are not just working off the synopsis. Also, please use spoiler warnings. This is a new issue. --abates 17:09, 6 June 2012 (EDT)

Yes, I have. What should be the spoiler expiration date? Ed 19:30, 29 September 2012 (EDT)
It says how to work out the spoiler date on our spoiler policy page. --abates 17:16, 6 June 2012 (EDT)

When you were told not to edit IDW sections for things you hadn't read yet, the same applied to Titan sections or any other section that you haven't read/seen. --Detour 16:52, 26 July 2012 (EDT)

Yeah, the Sasquatch article you made bears little resemblance to what the comic says about the creature. --abates 17:01, 26 July 2012 (EDT)
You're doing it yet again with Rules of Disengagement. Stop it. --Detour 14:42, 29 July 2012 (EDT)

Seriously, Ed. Are you paying attention to the comics? Half the time the others are reverting your edits. --Lonegamer78 03:26, 13 November 2012 (EST)

I don't remember anybody reversing my edits since I came back here... Ed 16:57, 13 November 2012 (EST)

Really? Because I've been reversing, cleaning up and often completely rewriting your contributions because you just don't understand what it is you read. Please stop. --Detour 17:59, 13 November 2012 (EST)
I never knew about this. First of all, what do you mean by "please stop" and what am I not getting in the comics? Ed 18:02, 13 November 2012 (EST)
I mean please stop editing character summaries. Forever. You clearly lack the capacity for reading comprehension required to summarize up the events. You skip over story elements, you linger on elements, you completely miss the point of scenes, you're using useless descriptives, you pay so little attention you can't even realize when Drift uses his Great Sword and when he uses a regular one, and you don't even know the difference between nebulae and planets. I've had to rewrite Drift's character section entirely, I currently have to do it to Ultra Magnus... Stop. Let someone who can understand this stuff handle it. --Detour 18:15, 13 November 2012 (EST)
Fine. But, I have a problem. I've watched these last three months occasionally and nobody had spent the time to fully complete every issue. I know there are contributors that know what they're doing but they didn't cover all the characters. That was my only problem. Ed 18:33, 13 November 2012 (EST)
This isn't a race, Ed. Since the events are ongoing and the current writing is very deep and relying on past, present and future, it's better to wait until the story arcs end to tackle the events of respective characters, so you have a better overall view of the events that transpired. --Detour 18:43, 13 November 2012 (EST)

Ok. Ed 18:54, 13 November 2012 (EST)

A note about writing

If you use "he", "him" or "his" to refer to two different characters in the same sentence like "after Starscream left him to his hands", it makes the meaning behind the sentence unclear. --abates 22:14, 11 June 2012 (EDT)

"And"

After the Chaos war, Garnak joined up with Wheelie and Hardhead and captured Jhiaxus and left the planet.

You have four "and"s in a row there, dood. That sounds really, really bad.192.249.47.177 17:06, 14 June 2012 (EDT)

Yeah, look... I mean this in the best way possible, but.... okay, it's great that you're enthusiastic and want to edit. I love the fact that the comics are finally good enough to prompt this level of dedication from an editor. And thank you for taking on board our earlier (repeated) instruction to actually read the comics before editing. But... what you're writing isn't very good. Your grammar is problematic, as illustrated above, and your write-ups alternate between delving way too far into the minutiae of conversations and events, creating big paragraphs bogged down with unnecessary details, and not noting enough. And you do so many edits at once - which is laudable, most certainly! - but it means that we're left with a lot of ground that other editors then need to go back over and smooth out to read better and briefer. Please put some extra effort in - read back to yourself what you've just written out loud and see how it sounds. Or just go easy - don't edit every article for every character from every issue right away in one go, so you can see how other editors react to your wording. - Chris McFeely 18:32, 14 June 2012 (EDT)

I'm not sure how much you guys use drafts here, but would it maybe help for him to try that? Or would that just be even more work, reviewing and cleaning them up afterward?192.249.47.177 11:23, 15 June 2012 (EDT)

Drafts? Ed 19:30, 29 September 2012 (EDT)

Drafts are when you add your write up to the article's talk page, or to a section on your own user page. They allow you to present your changes without publishing something of subpar quality on the wiki. However, they still have to be reviewed, so its only really worth it when the content of the work is valuable, but its initial presentation would be unacceptable.192.249.47.177 14:49, 15 June 2012 (EDT)
Can't I just use the Show Preview button for this? (lobythelegend 16:18, 15 June 2012 (EDT))
No, since the point would be to let other editors review your work without compromising the quality of the main article. Still, it's a question of whether it's worth the effort or not. Maybe you could have a friend review your stuff as you type it, maybe?192.249.47.177 15:51, 18 June 2012 (EDT)
Sure Ed 19:30, 29 September 2012 (EDT)
Did you do any of what Chris suggested up there? Also, can you please fix your sig to at least link to your user page? --abates 23:58, 23 June 2012 (EDT)
How do you get it to link? Ed 19:30, 29 September 2012 (EDT)
Type four tildes (like this ~~~~, but without the nowiki tags), the wiki's software will add your user name and the time/date stamp automatically. --Khajidha 09:58, 24 June 2012 (EDT)
It is in your preferences - make sure "Raw signatures (without automatic link)" is not checked. --abates 21:49, 2 July 2012 (EDT)
You're still making horrible issue summaries, and unfortunately for the Wiki the only title I'm reading at the time is MTMTE. Stop writing horrible summaries on the character articles. --Detour 13:34, 2 July 2012 (EDT)

Something I noticed in the comics

Is it me or is it something else but I noticed that these comic series seems to be focusing on making characters that haven't been seen for awhile reappear and then kill off a whole bunch like Sunstorm, Bombshell, Horri Bull, and some others. Also, we don't even know what happened to Kickback and Darkwing and Shrapnel and most of the crew of the Thanatos yet. And where is Tempest? I basically stated most of the characters who are MIA. Ed 19:30, 29 September 2012 (EDT)

Cool!

How do you guys at the wiki manage to get hyperlinks and stuff by just putting [[]] around them? It's awesome! Ed 19:30, 29 September 2012 (EDT)

That is a function of the wiki's software. --Khajidha 09:59, 24 June 2012 (EDT)
Like, automatically? Ed 19:30, 29 September 2012 (EDT)
Wikis work using coding called wiki markup - when you edit a page, you type out the article, including code, and the wiki software then interprets the code to display the article. In this instance, wrapping a word in double square brackets tells the wiki to link to the page with that title. Wrapping a word in triple apostrophes tells the wiki to make that word bold, and so on and so forth. Jalaguy 13:44, 24 June 2012 (EDT)
That's cool. Ed 19:30, 29 September 2012 (EDT)

Do you know how I can make a hyperlink right to the section I edited in the Recent Changes? Ex. --> IDW comics continuity Ed 14:02, 29 July 2012 (EDT)

Question

Did anybody look at my suggestion on his page? Ed 19:30, 29 September 2012 (EDT)

A very good point

In the Beast Wars sourcebook on Killer Punch's bio, it says Ultra Magnus is actually a Decepticon agent and in Rules of Disengagement, somebody retrieves a data chip from Rung's thumb regarding the Decepticon, Overlord. I think the MTMTE comic staff are trying to imply Ultra Magnus is going to backstab the Autobots very soon. Does anybody else see a point? Ed 17:28, 29 October 2012 (EDT)

No, it says that Killer Punch believes that UM was a Decepticon agent. It's part of his paranoia. --Khajidha 19:07, 29 October 2012 (EDT)
Ok. That actually explains a lot. Thanks. Ed 19:34, 29 October 2012 (EDT)

Larger images

It's very good that the ROTF images you've been replacing are clearer, but 2000 pixels across is much too large for our needs! 1500 is probably the limit, I'd say, and only in the most necessary circumstances. --ItsWalky (talk) 12:12, 24 June 2015 (EDT)

Okay, I guess I'll resize them then... Ed (talk) 12:14, 24 June 2015 (EDT)

Covenant Images

I've been looking over the Covenant of Primus from Ken Christiansen's site that you uploaded, and I think that some of them should be reverted back to their originals. I double checked the uploads with my physical copy of the Covenant and the new artworks for Nexus, Alchemist, Amalgamous and Quintus don't match up. I can only guess the art on Ken's site were earlier versions that were revised again before being used in the final book. --BowserTheSecond (talk) 18:27, 8 January 2016 (EST)

D'awww. I guess so... However, the images I uploaded were of a higher quality rather than mere scans. It's fine, I'll live. Ed (talk) 10:13, 10 January 2016 (EST)

Image uploads

Please stop pointlessly cropping images and ballooning up their file sizes in the process. Saix (talk) 21:34, 31 March 2016 (EDT)

Sure. I just thought the images would look better but I guess not. However, I run into the issue where, if I decrease the file size, the image starts to depreciate in value. Ed (talk) 01:00, 1 April 2016 (EDT)

Image cleanup

Thanks for cleaning up and color corrected the SG Animated pictures! They look so much better than the stuff I originally uploaded. --Ascendron (talk) 14:46, 1 April 2016 (EDT)

No problem. Ed (talk) 15:46, 1 April 2016 (EDT)

Image filesizes

Hey, just a heads up, we generally prefer that screen captures are 150 kb or less for bandwidth purposes, and there's really no reason they need to be more than 720p at max unless there's a bunch of tiny details that need to be visible for illustration. Thankfully it seems to be a quick fix. I've managed to lower the filesizes of some of your images by opening them up in Paint and saving again; it lowers the filesize pretty significantly with no notable dip in quality. Might be worth trying in case an image is ballooning too much. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 15:53, 11 May 2019 (EDT)

Alright. Thanks for the heads-up. Ed (talk) 00:27, 14 May 2019 (EDT)

Polar Claw

Feel free to reupload that image, but please remember to include Spittor in it. Escargon (talk) 12:57, 7 December 2019 (EST)

Alright. Ed (talk) 17:32, 15 December 2019 (EST)

Invasion boxart

Remember years ago when you asked me if I had a better view of the BotCon 2012 boxart?
