     Maj.-Gen. William Neville Gardiner was born on 23 April 1748.1,2 He was the son of Rt. Hon. Charles Gardiner and Florinda Norman.3,1 He married Harriet Wrottesley, daughter of Rev. Sir Richard Wrottesley, 7th Bt. and Lady Mary Leveson-Gower, in 1779.1 He died on 7 February 1806 at age 57.3,2
     He fought in the American War of Independence.2 He held the office of Ambassador to Warsaw in 1793.3 He was Commander-in-Chief of the Nova Scotia and New Brunswick from 1805 to 1806.2

     Harriet Wrottesley was born on 1 January 1754.2 She was the daughter of Rev. Sir Richard Wrottesley, 7th Bt. and Lady Mary Leveson-Gower.1,3 She married Maj.-Gen. William Neville Gardiner, son of Rt. Hon. Charles Gardiner and Florinda Norman, in 1779.4 She died on 8 December 1824 at age 70.3
     From 1779, her married name became Gardiner.1 She held the office of Maid of Honour to Queen Charlotte.1
