OBSOLETED

[edit]

Decision taken at Wikidata:Requests_for_deletions/Archive/2013/Properties/4#Property:P741. Similar to shooting handedness (P423) discussed here, decision is :

Rather use handedness (P552) with qualifier sport (P641).

There is problem with values forehand (Q1333285) and backhand (Q1364175) and constraints. --Infovarius (talk) 12:06, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

IMO This should not be deleted since also shooting handedness (P423) was kept. --Stryn (talk) 09:53, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

One year later

[edit]

@Kompakt, Infovarius, Stryn, Jura1, Edoderoo: @GZWDer, FelixReimann, Izno, Filceolaire, Jklamo:

This property is marked as obsolete since one year and not much happend - only around 50 claims have been removed [1]. The main problem is that merging into handedness (P552) isn't straightforward as handedness (P552) only allows the value left-handedness (Q789447) and right-handedness (Q3039938), however, P741 can also have values one-handed forehand (Q14419931), two-handed backhand (Q14420068) etc. To solve this conflict I can think about three options:

  1. merging P741 into handedness (P552) and extending the range of allowed values of handedness (P552)
  2. merging P741 into shooting handedness (P423)
  3. keeping P741

What do you think? --Pasleim (talk) 19:38, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In the meantime, it is clear that qualifier wont be available for queries anytime soon, thus it's preferable to keep the property (3). --- Jura 19:45, 28 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think there should be few conflict between values in P741 and P552. So it is possible to query without many false positives (which can probably be fixed manually by client).--GZWDer (talk) 09:57, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Queries with qualifiers wont be developed in the short or medium term. See the development plan at «Querying for sources or qualifiers not to be done». --- Jura 05:22, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Accordingly, I'd favor removing the "Obsoleted" from the description. --- Jura 05:24, 1 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I support option (1) and I believe this is what was proposed when we agreed to delete P741. Filceolaire (talk) 01:23, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I support option 3 per Jura1 above and my comment in the "OBSOLETED" section. --Stryn (talk) 16:22, 24 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I updated the property with (3). --- Jura 07:07, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Extended domain

[edit]

I extended the domain of this property to badminton player (Q13141064). Maybe we could also add other racquet sports. --Pasleim (talk) 12:25, 18 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
