Babel

Babel lets you view and edit more than one language on Wikidata. Just add e.g. {{#babel:de-N|en-3|es-1|fr-2|nl-3|it-4|da-0}} to your user page. With the same language codes you can add links to your userpage on Wikipedia e.g. de:User:User123. --Tobias1984 (talk) 15:49, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Greetings Genealogy Fan!

I'm working on a rather large scale effort to help get in claims of the sort that you're creating - by hand?

Anyway, I work using the Genealogy Wiki "WeRelate". It's a wiki - organized at a page per person - with features that allow the people to be connected up as father/mother/sibling/spouse/etc.,etc.

The complete database at WeRelate has something like 2.8M people, but my focus is the people who have a wikipedia page - and more generally - those who have an associated Wikidata identity. I've been tagging Person pages with their corresponding Wikidata identifier.

Using a bit of code I've written, I'm able to search out all the pages on WeRelate with a Wikidata ID. Then, my program uses the WeRelate connections to infer what the Wikidata genealogy claims would be. Finally, it comes over to Wikidata, comparing what's been inferred with what's actually present. That's how I came up with the 4,000 or so claims I've made so far - I've got another 5,000 waiting to upload.

I think my approach is very good in a statistical sense - but a bad page assignment on WeRelate is apt to yield a bad result in an upload. Apparently, you've encountered a couple.

I wanted you to be aware of what I'm doing - and let you consider how it might affect you. If you're interested - I would really welcome your participation in the effort that I've been on. Perhaps you would consider working through the same domains you're interested in from the WeRelate perspective? If you worked there - my automatic process would then pick up what you had found - and create the needed claims for Wikidata?

@Jrm03063: Greetings to you too. Well, sure, I can include WeRelate in the way I work. We will need to talk about a few things :

- do you have a process to update a Wikidata ID that have been merged into another item ?

WeRelate is a single tree environment - so only one "Person:" page per human. Duplicates are merged - so we shouldn't ever have more than one WeRelate "Person:" page with a particular Wikidata ID. My tool looks across the entire WeRelate universe for Person: pages tagged with a Wikidata ID. The first check is simply to make sure that no duplicates are encountered. --Jrm03063 (talk) 15:17, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

No. Take for example, [1]. 2 items on Wikidata refered to that person : Margaret of Guelders (Q24040015) and Margaret of Guelders (Q27996381). The usual process on Wikidata is to merge those items (here into Margaret of Guelders (Q24040015)). Now imagine on WeRelate you had linked your Person to Q27996381, you would now have the wrong link (not totally false, but clearly outdated). So my question was : do you have a process to identify those kind of persons and to change their link to the right one (Q24040015) ? --Melderick (talk) 18:38, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

- what are you doing when your tool finds statements on Wikidata that are not on WeRelate ?

I can emit those results any way I want. Previously, I reviewed my list and entered claims manually. I've lately changed to emit the claims in "Quick Statement" format - but I've yet to be able to perform such batch loads of claims. I am mostly interested (or concerned) with your statement of "removal of some plainly incorrect connections". If it's possible, I would rather check those before they are removed. Some of those statements might have to be set to deprecated instead of removed. Other cases could be to mark the statement as disputed or just hypothetic. Thanks for being interested enough to consider this. You had found a couple claims I entered that needed to be reverted - which probably means that the pages on WeRelate aren't tagged correctly. Regrettably, that's easy to believe - because I originally had associated WeRelate pages with English Wikipedia page names. As biographies in Wikipedia get added to and reorganized - names are often changed - such that the WeRelate pages might not reflect the right Wikipedia page any more. When I move through quickly - adding Wikidata IDs for the pages with English Wikipedia - I may not notice an association that's changed or bad. So if you find mistakes I've made with claims on Wikidata - chances are they're also present back on WeRelate. If I don't get them resolved back there - I might re-introduce them to Wikidata.

It's easy to find out if WeRelate knows about a Wikidata page - go to this search screen, then enter the Wikidata ID as a Keyword. --Jrm03063 (talk) 15:17, 10 July 2017 (UTC)

Wulhard of Flavigny

Hello, I saw that you undid my edit removing a claim from Wulhard of Flavigny (Q7744234), so I wanted to explain why I made that edit, because even I was mistaken in making it, I do think there's an issue with the claims as they stand. Adalard of Paris (Q348214) and corresponding Wikipedia articles state that Adalhard died around 890, while Wulhard of Flavigny (Q7744234) and at least some of the ptwiki article state that his "father" Wulhard died in 1044 (the ptwiki article also claims a birth date in 982). Since children can't die before their parents are born, do you have any thoughts on what should be done to resolve this? Thanks! --Jamie7687 (talk) 02:47, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello @Jamie7687:. I did a quick check and I would say the ptwiki infobox and categories are plainly wrong, obviously taken from the ptwiki of Miles de Châtillon (Q10330024). Duplicate WikiTree ID claims

Hello there! I see you may have added a duplicate WikiTree ID claim for Q1677724. Only one ID should exist, even when duplicates are present on WikiTree. Add possibility to copy claims between forms on lexemes in moveclaims2

I am adding pronunciations on lexemes and in Swedish (and probably other languages as well) it is quite common that two or more forms are pronounced the same way. Right now it's not possible to copy statements between forms, but if you would add it, it would make my work much more productive. Thanks for an awesome tool! In fact @Ainali:, I just tested on sandbox 2 (L1234) and I was able to copy a statement from one form to another with the current version of the tool. Hi, User:Melderick/moveClaims2.js currently uses the credit using [[User:Matěj Suchánek/moveClaim.js|moveClaim.js]] (line 112), which makes things confusing (since it's not the right version of it). Strip input of moveClaim2.js to just the identifier

Hi!, Check out User:1Veertje/moveClaims2.js, where I've added two lines to your script that makes it so that input in its two input field get stripped to just the P or Q value. moveClaims2.js pull request

Thanks for creating moveClaims2.js. It is really useful. However I was unhappy about how it integrates into the UI. I changed it a bit over on User:Shisma/moveClaims2.js:

If you like it, feel free to merge it into your code. Or if you want something changed let me know. I couldn't find a better standard icon. I wonder is there a list somewhere?

Merge

You undid my merge from Pauline de Simiane (Q110381599) to François de La Rochefoucauld, 4.Marquis de Surgeres (Q108942227) (seems fair) but then you merged the item to Pauline de Simiane (Q3372769) resulting in very different life dates on this item. Hmm let's see. Pauline de Simiane (Q110381599) was based on the Genealogics page, while Pauline de Simiane (Q3372769) was based on Wikipedia. Both have the same spouse and daughter. Call for participation in a task-based online experiment

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I am working on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender model that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our model based on your previous edits.

Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published in a research venue.

The experiment should take no more than 15 minutes, and it will be held next week.
