Change in translated texts

[edit]

You have changed a lot of text in old newsletters for Hindi language. Can you please explain it? It looks like, you are changing as per your choice which may or may not be correct. You are also changing date format (which is not the same as default) and number format from Nagari to Roman (which is not adopted yet here for hiwiki).☆★Sanjeev Kumar (talk) 05:19, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The date format DD-MM-YYYY is the standard for Hindi and that's why it's included inside the string so that it can be changed according to the language. As for the number format, the CHD states that use of Nagari numerals is not necessary outside of official use so it's basically a de facto and it's fine; on top, I think the readability goes along with consensus - majority have difficulty reading the traditional format afaik.
It's not adopted on community-contributed wikis yet but it soon will be. The numeral conversion on hiwiki is only a makeshift. ThisIsACreeper0101 (talk) 04:59, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Separate image for Hindi language version of main page banner

[edit]

Hi there! I noticed that you made this edit to Template:Main Page/Header new, adding a dedicated file for the Hindi language version of the banner (File:Wikidata nodes in white (hi).svg), instead of the multilingual version, File:Wikidata nodes in white.svg.

But later you uploaded a new version of the multilingual file with the edit message "Added translation for hi", and edited the description accordingly. Does that mean that the multilingual file can now be used in the Wikidata main page? Waldyrious (talk) 16:46, 7 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Update: After discussing a similar situation here, it seems like the need for a separate file might have been due to the font rendering. I went ahead and applied the same font family to the Hindi strings in the main file as the one that was used in File:Wikidata nodes in white (hi).svg. Here's the full-size preview with Hindi text. Can you please check if it looks OK to you? Waldyrious (talk) 01:20, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, sorry for the late reply. The preview font looks fine to me. I had initially uploaded a separately file because font fallback for Devanagari on Windows was Nirmala UI which was barely readable, and often glitched out. Thanks for the edit! Saurmandal (talk) 17:23, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh wow. Somehow I didn't get notified of your reply. I am glad the Hindi version of the main file is usable. I will then propose the manually localized file for deletion (as was done previously with the others, to avoid duplication and confusion), and will make Template:Main Page/Header new use the main file. Cheers! Waldyrious (talk) 09:08, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
