Notified participants of WikiProject Authority control after many years of hard work, the catalogue Parsifal catalog (Q118309883) has reached the degree of stability necessary for connecting it to Wikidata; it is the biggest collective catalogue of ecclesiastical libraries in Italy, with more than 800k authority records, and the second (after OPAC SBN (Q105086090)) by absolute size in Italy alongside with SHARE Catalogue (Q56557486) (which has a comparable dimension). The catalogue is maintained by some tens of cataloguers and there is an ongoing effort to strengthen the presence of Wikidata IDs inside the authority records (significant percentages of Pontificia Università della Santa Croce ID (P5739) and Angelicum ID (P5731), which contribute to Parsifal, are already interlinked with Wikidata). Whilst mistakes are surely present, mainly due to imprecisions in automatic clusterization, the quality of data also on relatively unknown Christian authors is very high; moreover, Parsifal is presently setting up a structured way for reporting mistakes in clusterizations (updates will follow in the next weeks). Using Parsifal will improve significantly our coverage of persons and organizations, mainly (but not only) in the field of Christianims; no need to say, thousands of IDs can already be easily imported since they link to Wikidata.

A final note: in Parsifal there are separate IDs for clusters and for the related authority records (e.g. https://parsifal.urbe.it/parsifal/searchNames?n_cluster_id=67646 = https://parsifal.urbe.it/parsifal/authResource?uri=64709); the cluster visualization shows all the connected bibliographic records, the authorized form of the name (and variants, if present), links to VIAF ISNI Wikidata etc., a photo from Commons, an incipit from Italian Wikipedia and a few structered biographical data, whilst the authority record visualization shows the entire authority record; the two IDs are interlinked; since having both in Wikidata would generate confusion and uselessly increase the amount of toil necessary for maintaining the reconciliation clean, it is basically necessary to choose which one we want here (given that from one you can reach the other in one click); my opinion is that the cluster has, in general, more data which could be interesting for our users, mainly the list of publications, and is also easier to consult, so I would prefer it over the authority record. Anyway, feel free to say if you would prefer linking to the authority record instead. --Epìdosis 18:25, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
