I would like to nominate Csigabi for adminship. He has been active on Wikidata for a while, and has done over 10,000 edits. User has also done many deletion requests. He is already admin on the Hungarian Wikipedia, and I know that he will be a good admin also on Wikidata. --Stryn (talk) 16:04, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for the nomination which I accept. I have been an admin on huwiki for the past couple of years. Our Wikipedia was one of the selected firsts where Wikidata had been tested. It was then that I started linking our articles into Wikidata. Later on I did not only add our articles and their descriptions but other Wikipedias' as well which led me to find duplicates in the database. By now I feel I have sufficient experience and confidence in Wikidata to help others use it, and to do more than just adding links to the Wikidata items. Csigabi (talk) 16:40, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- I would like to announce this vote on huwiki but want to avoid charges of canvassing. Is it acceptable to post something neutral along the lines of "Csigabi has been nominated for adminship on Wikidata. You can vote for or against him here (link)"? --Malatinszky (talk) 16:32, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- This is not strictly speaking prohibited but created a lot of trouble in the past, since people consider this canvassing. I would strongly advise against this.--Ymblanter (talk) 16:53, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- OK, then I won't do it. Thanks. --Malatinszky (talk) 17:52, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- If there is a discussion page on this wiki in hu (I don't think there is) it would probably be ok to post there. (For example, if nominee had been an administrator on frwiki and someone wanted to announce it in WD:Bistro, that would be ok, I think.) StevenJ81 (talk) 20:07, 7 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- I would not do it. I can easily see how it can create drama, and I guess most of the active forum participants would notice this RfA anyway. On the other hand, the candidate currently seems to be on their way to the admin flag, and intervention is not really needed to help them.--Ymblanter (talk) 10:24, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- WD:Társalgó is kind of abandoned :). - Matthew Beta (talk) 06:55, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- LOL, Matthew!
- Ymblanter, clearly no help is needed here. But in principle, aren't WD:Bistro and WD:Társalgó just as much Wikidata project chat pages as the English-language one? We're not talking about announcing on frwiki or huwiki, respectively. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:00, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Sure, but we do not announce RfA of English speaking users on the Project Chat, either.--Ymblanter (talk) 17:00, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Csigabi was nominated with the explicit aim to have an ambassador of huWiki here. The huWiki community general, not only the barely-there forum participants here should be given a chance to express an opinion if they find him in this function acceptable or not.
- Karmela (talk) 15:50, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- As I said, the policies do not prohibit this. My personal experience is, however, that once an announcement has been made on hu.wp, and users without a significant contribution would start to vote here, other users would vote oppose, and the request could be dead in a day.--Ymblanter (talk) 16:59, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Karmela, if you think the huwiki community is going to have a problem, perhaps you should let on here why that is. If not, Csigabi is going to pass, so don't worry about it. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:56, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- By many people's definition, that would be considered canvassing and would immediately cause this RFA to fail. --Rschen7754 22:13, 8 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
How so? He wouldn't be canvassing, he would be expressing his personal opinion right here, on this talk page. That opinion would potentially be material to a decision. I'm not trying to be a pill here, but I assume the "comments" section is here for a reason.StevenJ81 (talk) 01:58, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]- That was a reply to Karmela, not you. --Rschen7754 01:59, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Karmela, I think you have a great misunderstanding of what the role of admin entails. If someone wants to be an ambassador between huWiki and Wikidata, they can do so perfectly effectively without the mop. PinkAmpersand did so before becoming an admin, simply by making an effort to communicate on EnWiki what was going on in Wikidata that would effect EnWiki and by answering questions about Wikidata on EnWiki. The whole mentality surrounding this nomination and the apparent belief that Hungarian speakers are entitled to having an admin is disturbing because it places what language a person speaks above what is best for Wikidata. If a candidate is qualified and happens to speak a language that no other admin speaks, that's good. But if a candidate is qualified and speaks a well represented language they should pass, and if a candidate isn't qualified but happens to speak a language that no admin speaks, they should fail. If multilingual projects start placing an emphasis on language over [content/contributions/interactions/etc.] there are going to be massive community problems. That's what I feel you and Malatinszky are doing, and I very much don't like it. Sven Manguard Wha? 05:19, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am increasingly uncomfortable with the tone this discussion is taking. I've politely asked guidance on whether a certain action was considered acceptable in this community, I was told by an experienced member of the community that it wasn't considered acceptable, and so I responded that I would not take that action and politely said thanks for the guidance. The relevant part of the discussion was over in 80 minutes. I don't know why, three days on, it is still necessary to be beating this dead horse. Can we just stop piling on please?
I also take exception to the accusation that I somehow feel that Hungarian speakers are "entitled" to a Hungarian-speaking admin. What I suggested in another discussion is that perhaps the Wikidata community should make an effort to actively reach out to non-English Wikipedia communities, and encourage them to identify suitable bilingual candidates for Wikidata adminship. I think I can make solid arguments in favor of this idea, but I also recognize that my suggestion got a cool reception, so I'm not going to push it. But please don't characterize me as some sort of rabid nationalist who feels that Hungarians are entitled to something that others don't deserve. Thank you.
Malatinszky (talk) 13:14, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
- Believe me, if I thought that you were a rabid nationalist, or if I thought your intentions were in any way malicious, I would flat out say as much. But since I don't think those things, and since you make a good point about the age of the conversation, I will back off from the issue. Sven Manguard Wha? 14:24, 10 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
