Introduction

[edit]

The term "Mythology" encompasses the sum of myths (= narrative materials, expressed in oral tradition, literature, art, music or dance) as well as the study of these. Myth or mythos is what the Greeks called a traditional tale involving people of a distant past, which interacted with the gods, wrestled with fate, defeated monsters, founded and destroyed cities, begat children and provided a backdrop for genealogy, recent history and cultural, political or religous discourses.

This WikiProject deals with everything connected to Greek mythology with an outlook on the traditional tales and divinities which came before and/or inspired it, like Ancient Egyptian mythology, Mesopotamian mythology (Sumerian, Akkadian and Babylonian) and Hittite mythology, as well as those of adjacent cultures and those influenced by the Greeks, most notably Roman mythology).
