Lizardon Mega Battle merchandise
The Lizardon Mega Battle was the first in a series of large-scale tournaments with a theme focusing on a single Pokémon. It takes inspiration from the original Lizardon Mega Battle held in Japan in 1998, the second official domestic tournament to be held. Tournaments were hosted at the Pacifico Yokohama, Yokohama on the weekend of May 3–4, 2014, and at Intex Osaka, Osaka on the weekend of May 17–18, 2014.
People could participate in the main Lizardon Mega Battle event as well as a number of smaller side events on different days. The first day comprised the qualifying for the Lizardon Mega Battle event as well as the Triple Beat Battle and 5 on 5 Battle side events. The second day consisted of the Lizardon Mega Battle final round and the following side events: the Tag Battle, the Mega Charizard VS Battle, the One Day Battle, and the Gym Leader Challenge. All participants were given a Garchomp-EX promotional card featuring the event logo upon entry.
Lizardon Mega Battle participants could register for 1 of 2 leagues: the A League, limited to elementary school students, or the B League, open to those in junior high school and above. All competitors began at the 'Qualifying Block' phase and were put into groups of 4. Those with the most wins in a group would progress to a single-elimination tournament—the 'Qualifying Tournament' phase—and earn a promotional print of Protection Cube. The top 16 players at the culmination of this phase could progress to the finals on day 2, once again a single-elimination tournament. The top 3 players at the end of the event were awarded a Victory Ring trophy card based on their position.
The top 4 players in each league from each venue earned an invitation to play in the Lizardon Mega Battle Japan Championships, held at Pokémon Center Osaka on June 7 and 8, 2014. B League finalists competed on the first day, while those in the A League competed on day 2. The top 4 players of the finals in each league would earn an invitation to the 2014 World Championships, and the overall winners from each league were awarded a Mega Charizard trophy, inspired by the one awarded in the 1998 tournament.
Participants of the side events on day 1 could earn prizes by performing well—those who achieved 3 consecutive wins in the Triple Beat Battle were given a Blacksmith promotional card; teams that won in the 5 on 5 Battle were given a promotional print of Fire Energy featuring the event logo. On day 2, side event participants could earn Play Points and redeem them for exclusive cards. Those earning 3 Play Points could redeem them for a Binacle promotional card; those earning 7 Play Points could redeem them for a Greninja promotional card.
Pop-up Pokémon Stores present at each venue offered the latest products as well as some exclusive merchandise to commemorate the event. The Lizardon Mega Battle Rubber Playmat (Japanese: ラバープレイマット 「リザードンメガバトル」) could be purchased here or won by placing in the top 5 of the Mega Charizard VS Battle. An Original Deck Case (Japanese: オリジナルデッキケース) featuring Mega Charizard could be received in exchange for showing Strongest Battle Master Guides enclosed in copies of M Charizard-EX Mega Battle Decks to attendants.

Rayquaza Mega Battle merchandise
The Rayquaza Mega Battle was a large-scale domestic event that allowed players from all over Japan to compete for the right to represent their country in the 2015 World Championships. It was held at four locations: at the Nagoya Trade & Industry Center, Nagoya on May 5, 2015, at Makuhari Messe, Chiba on May 9 and 10, 2015, at the Sapporo Factory, Sapporo on May 23 and 24, 2015, and at Intex Osaka, Osaka on May 31, 2015.
All entrants were given a Swampert-EX promotional card upon entry at each venue. A slew of exclusive merchandise was also available for purchase at pop-up Pokémon Centers, including a Rayquaza Mega Battle Pin for ¥500 and a Mega Rayquaza themed Deck Tin reminiscent of the English Elite Trainer Deck Shields for ¥950. Patrons who presented a voucher included within Rayquaza Mega Battle Packs to floor staff were given a M Blaziken-EX XY-P Promotional card.
Each Rayquaza Mega Battle event consisted of 2 tiers: the A League, limited to elementary school students, or the B League, open to those in junior high school and above. Each held two concurrent qualifying rounds followed by a final round. One of these was the main Rayquaza Mega Battle qualifying round, which could be entered by placing in the top three at preceding Rayquaza Gym Battle or Rayquaza Pokémon Center Battle events prior to the tournament. The Rayquaza Gym Battle was held between March 1 and March 25, 2015 at participating Pokémon Card Gym venues. The Rayquaza Pokémon Center Battle was held at participating Pokémon Centers across two periods for different age categories: between March 28 and April 4, 2015 (all ages), and between March 29 and April 5, 2015 (elementary school students). Competitors in the main Rayquaza Mega Battle qualifying round were divided into groups and played several rounds of single-elimination matches to determine an overall group winner, who would go on to compete in the final round. The second qualifier was the Rayquaza Mega Battle Last Challenge, which was structured more like previous large-scale Japanese tournaments. All competitors began at the 'First Stage' and could advance to the 'Second Stage' by recording two consecutive wins. A further three consecutive wins at the 'Second Stage' granted players entry into the final round. Players knocked out in the main qualifying round could also participate in the Last Challenge qualifier. Players who progressed to the second single-elimination round in the main Rayquaza Mega Battle qualifying round or the 'Second Stage' in the Rayquaza Mega Battle Last Challenge qualifier earned an exclusive print of Mega Turbo.
The top three players following the conclusion of the final round were awarded Victory Ring promotional cards. The top twelve players in each of their respective leagues would subsequently earn an invitation to the Rayquaza Mega Battle Japan Championships, held at Pokémon Center Osaka on the weekend of June 27–28, 2015. The top four players of the finals from each league would earn an invitation to the World Championships, and the overall winners from each league were awarded a Mega Rayquaza trophy.
The Rayquaza Mega Battle also featured prizes that could be redeemed for Play Points, which were awarded by participating in various events at each venue. Eligible events included the qualifying rounds of the main tournament, the 3 on 3 Battle, and the Knockout Battle. At 1 Play Point, players could choose between the event's exclusive Gold Cracked Ice Holofoil Mega Rayquaza coin or one of four sets of stickers available exclusively at the event. The prize at 3 points was player's choice of 1 of the 8 different prints of the Gym Badge XY-P Promo. Nine points earned players a M Swampert-EX XY-P Promotional card. 29 points earned the top prize—an exclusive Rayquaza Mega Battle T-shirt featuring Pikachu. Every prize could be redeemed more than once, except for the T-shirt.
Attendants at each venue also conducted exchanges for the Pokémon Card Chance campaign, which initially ran as a postal exchange campaign between March 14 and May 7, 2015. People could exchange three "1 point" cards found in specially marked Emerald Break booster packs for a Shiny Rayquaza-EX promotional card. There was no limit on how many cards any one person could redeem, other than the quantity supplied at each venue.
The Super! Mega Evolution Battle Pokémon Tretta event was also held at venues hosting the Rayquaza Mega Battle, with the exception of the Sapporo venue. Participants who managed to fill the Catch Gauge of any one Pokémon were awarded a Primal Kyogre, a Primal Groudon, or a Rayquaza Tretta at random. Those who did not manage to defeat any Pokémon at these events were instead awarded a Sceptile Tretta. Participants who managed to fill the Catch Gauge of all three opposing Pokémon were awarded the Sceptile Tretta in addition to the victory prize. The top 10 highest scorers at each venue were also awarded a Pokémon Tretta certificate.

Players who registered a deck containing 4 or more cards from the recently released Bandit Ring expansion were also given a sticker sheet featuring Hoopa. People not wishing to partake in the organized matches could visit the Festival Park corner, which held Open! Pokémon Card and Pokémon Coin Challenge mini attractions.
