Other rare letters

edit

The Italian language has three letters found in only one noun each:

  • ü is found only in the common noun würstel (frankfurter/wiener/Vienna sausage/hotdog when used as a topping for pizza) (with orthophonetic pronunciations IPA(key): [ˈvwyr.stel], [ˈvwyr.stɛl])
  • æ and Ø are found only in the toponym Fær Øer (Faroe Islands (archipelago and political entity)) (with orthophonetic pronunciations IPA(key): [ˈfær ˌɵ.er], [ˈfær ˌɘ.er], [ˈfær ˌø.er])

Most ethnic (chiefly from non-Italic non-Hellenic non-Germanic non-Slavic non-Uralic non-Semitic languages) proper nouns, language nouns, and language adjectives are untranslated and, therefore, may contain other rare letters.
