I joined the wikipedia during its golden age. Prior to 2007 there was a good balance between anabolism and catabolism. Very sadly, there was an unanticipated sea change in the wikipedia's baroque and contradictory policies in 2007, which changed the balance, and made it much too easy to delete articles. There are charts that display this sea change.
The volunteers who found it enjoyable exercise to add new content, create new articles, or add the necessary paragraphs to improve existing articles and keep them up to date, no longer found it enjoyable to be end up in wrangles with quality control volunteers, who were growing not only more nit-picky, but also often, malicious and personal. Anyone who has been called to defend the content they spent hours working on, is sure to have encountered passing comments from quality control volunteers who are functionally illiterate. It is exhausting. Most people who were happy adding new content during the wikipedia's golden age started to defect, without really being replaced.
Since you seem to be a smart person, and you are a University student, for whom it would be good experience, I am going to urge you to stop concentrating on simple copy editing, and nominating articles for deletion, and instead work on adding new content and/or helping to keep existing articles up to date.
As I wrote in the AFD you recently initiated, I started working on the wikipedia when it had less than ten percent as many articles as it has now. I started thousands of articles. Sadly, unlike during the wikipedia's golden age, when lots of people would work on articles, when I look at the contribution histories for most of the articles I started I see dozens of edits have been made to the article's metadata, changing which templates it used, which categories it was included in. But no one else had done any actual work on those article's actual content.
You found one good additional reference for Bright Leaves. That one additional reference, included properly, in the modern way, would probably have been enough so that any other impatient people, who didn't see that McElwee was a highly regarded film expert, wouldn't have a concern with the article.
NOt to scold, but it's always best to be more diligent and pro-active in a search for reliable sources covering film. The article's talk page offers a link to Metacritic which itself lists 20 reviews in reliable sources. Hint: The Find sources template assigned by AFD is not always the best search tool. A quick withdrawal and close will eliminate lots of spankings. 07:21, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
Hi Rimmel.Edits! We're so happy you wanted to play to learn, as a friendly and fun way to get into our community and mission. I think these links might be helpful to you as you get started.
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ruthie Tompson, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Pinocchio (film). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
Hello there! You are invited to attend the Great Buckeye Wiknic in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday, July 10th from 1:00 to 5:00 PM! On 1 July 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ruthie Tompson, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ruthie Tompson was offered a job by Walt Disney while working at the riding club where he played polo? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ruthie Tompson. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ruthie Tompson), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Thanks for partipating Wikipedia Asian Month last year, and I hope you enjoy it. Last year, more than 7,000 articles contribute to Wikipedia in 43 languages in Wikipedia Asian Month, making us one of the largest event on Wikipedia. We will organize this event again in upcoming November, and would like to invite you join us again.
This year, we are lowering down the standards that you only need to create 4 (Four) articles to receive a postcard (new design), and articles only need to be more than 3,000 bytes and 300 words. We are also improving our postcard sending process, e.g. making the postcards right now, and collecting the address after the event ends without waiting other languges.
Wikipedians who create the most articles on each Wikipedia will be honored as "Wikipedia Asian Ambassadors". We will send you both digital copy, and a paper copy of the Ambassador certificate.
Hi there! Wikipedia Asian Month is about to start. Here is some information about participating in the event:
Please submit your articles via this tool. Click 'log in' at the top-right and OAuth will take care the rest. You can also change the interface language at the top-right.
Once you submit an article, the tool will add a template to the article and mark it as needing review by an organizer. You can check your progress using the tool, which includes how many accepted articles you have.
Participants who achieve 4 accepted articles will receive a Wikipedia Asian Month postcard. You will receive another special postcard if you achieve 15 accepted articles. The Wikipedian with the highest number of accepted articles on the English Wikipedia will be honored as a "Wikipedia Asian Ambassador", and will receive a signed certificate and additional postcard.
If you have any problems accessing or using the tool, you can submit your articles at this page next to your username.
If you have any question, you can take a look at our Q&A or post on the WAM talk page.
Hi There! As you may know, this November is Asian Women Month, that hosted by Wikipedia Asian Month and WikiWomen In Red, to encourage coverage of Asian women in order to help overcome the content gender gap in Asian content. Asian Women Month observes the rules of Wikipedia Asian Month. You will receive a special Asian Women Month barnstar if you create four articles in accordance with the rules for the event, as well as a postcard sent from Asian community. Thanks for your consideration. Read more at here! --AddisWang (talk) 18:23, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Last year, you signed up to participate in Wikipedia Asian Month (WAM) 2016 on the English Wikipedia. The event was an international success, with hundreds of editors creating thousands of articles on Asian topics across dozens of different language versions of Wikipedia.

Also be sure to check out the Wikipedia Asian Art Month affiliate event - creating articles on Asian art topics can get you a Metropolitan Museum of Art postcard!
