Ikard
From Transformers Wiki
- Ikard is a Maximal from the Beast Wars II portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Full name Ikard October Bacus (イカード・オクトーバ・バークス Ikādo Okutōba Bākusu), Ikard is the cousin and dearest friend of the Maximal Scuba. In fact, he may be Scuba's only friend, or at least, the only individual he trusts on an intimate level. Closer in kinship to brothers than cousins, Ikard and Scuba share many of the same interests, including mastering the delicate but devastating "Surumarang" attack. Speaking with a nasally voice, he's looked at as something of a poindexter and a know-it-all. He's also a rather awful pilot, crashing his ship at most of his destinations.
Rather than belong to any individual team, Ikard plays a unique but important role in the Cybertronian war. As a courier, he delivers essential cargo and provisions to Maximals stationed in far off systems, keeping them in the fight! As a matter of fact, it was Ikard who delivered the Tako Tank to his cousin on Gaia.

Beast Wars II cartoon
- Voice actor: Ryō Naitō (Japanese)
Ikard was hired by his and Scuba's family to deliver the Tako Tank to his cousin as a special gift. Ikard took a while finding Scuba, but eventually located him on Gaia. Not a terribly good pilot, he first landed near the Combatrons, who attacked him. He flew off.
Ikard eventually located the Maximals as they were battling Gigastorm and, not spotting Scuba, considered leaving a "we missed you" notice for him, but figured since he wouldn't be back in that part of the galaxy for another year, he'd better try again. After Scuba showed up, Ikard scanned him and likewise took on the form of a squid. After Ikard successfully completed delivery, Scuba used the Tako Tank to help thrash Gigastorm and send the Predacons into retreat. Ikard later bid farewell to the Maximals and flew off into space. They cried for him to come back so he could deliver a report to Maximal Headquarters (the communications equipment on their own ship being unable to pierce Gaia's atmosphere), but Ikard misinterpreted their cries to come back as just meaning they really, really liked him. As he left the Solar System, he nearly got caught in the gravity field of Nemesis, but managed to hit his warp drive in time and safely escape. The New Weapon, Tako Tank

With the increasing unrest on Cybertron, the Maximal Elders sent Ikard to request Big Convoy's presence, demanding answers. However, the Maximal field commander was too busy, and as for answers, he showed the messenger the aftermath of an Angolmois-fueled riot where an unfortunate was torn limb-from-limb by the mob. Ikard managed to keep his lunch down and left to report this to the Imperium's rulers. The Ascending #2

Beast Wars: Uprising
Ikard was the manager of the Resistance supply base Safe Zone Alpha Two. A fussy and whiny sort, Ikard was not-so-secretly forcing captured Builder troops to fight to the death in a version of the Games. Shortly after the establishment of the Independent Predacus States, he met with Cheetor and Preditron when they came to visit. His attempts at making small talk did not go well, and his revelation about the prisoners outraged the two, despite Ikard's assurances that this had all definitely been approved by Lio Convoy and he was totally on board with it.
A short while later, he was awoken from recharging by Cheetor coming to tell him that he would go along with Ikard's games if Preditron did as well. What Cheetor didn't know was Ikard had orders from higher-up saying Preditron had become an inconvenience to the Resistance, since the Tripredacus Alliance wouldn't work with them if he was alive, and had attacked Preditron before throwing him into a cell, to die in the Games.
The next day, as the Games began, he was confronted by an outraged Cheetor and Ser-Ket, and revealed what was going on, before setting his minion Gaidora on them, reassuring the watching audience that it was all part of the show. Then, as the fight continued, something else happened: Strange drones started appearing, forcibly converting anyone they caught into one of their own, and Ikard was among them. As his mind and body were slowly warped, he managed to plead through the programming for Ser-Ket to kill him. She complied, melting what was left of Ikard into a puddle. She was convinced she heard him say "thank you" as he died. Safe Spaces

When the super-powerful Energon Quartz was discovered on Gaia, Ikard was one of the several Maximals involved in the ensuing conflicts. He was not, however, directly involved in combat. Toys
Beast Wars
- Ikard & Tako Tank (イカード&タコタンク, 1998)
- ID number: X-5
- Release date: 1998 October
- Accessories: Claw weapon, Tako Tank, 6 missiles
- Known designers: Takio Ejima and Takashi Kunihiro (TakaraTomy), Masakatsu Saito (concept artist)
- Part of the ninth wave of Takara's Beast Wars II toys, Ikard is a redeco of the Scuba tooling of the original US Claw Jaw figure, transforming into a giant squid. A piece of his beast mode back detaches to become a tentacle-held claw/boomerang. The plunger mechanism this weapon attaches to activates Ikard's beak, opening and closing his horrible mandibles, a gimmick available in both modes.
- As stated above, Ikard shares all of the molding changes that were made to the tentacles and robot feet on the Scuba release.
- Ikard was only available with the large Tako Tank vehicle. As Ikard and the Tako Tank were designed completely independently of each other (the tank having been originally a canceled Microman vehicle), Ikard doesn't work very well with it.
- Claw Jaw (VHS Basic pack-in, 1998)
- Accessories: "Claw weapon"
- A redecoed green and blue Claw Jaw was sold with a VHS tape in the European market. Despite the lack of a third, vehicular mode, this version of Claw Jaw was still sold as a Transmetal.
- Like most redecoes of this mold, this figure uses the Takara Scuba molding. His robot feet have been hollowed out more than on the original Claw Jaw and his forearms/tentacles have been thickened up and rounded at the tips. It's possible that this figure was the first to start the change in the tooling as both Scuba and this one were released the same year, although it's probably lost to time as to which was the first to use it.
- Together with the equally Europe-only "Transmetal" redeco of Spittor he was released alongside, this version of Claw Jaw came in unique trilingual packaging that sported texts in English, German, and Italian (regular European Beast Wars packaging came in the combinations French/Dutch/German and English/Spanish/Italian).
- The VHS tape included with the UK release contained the Beast Wars episode "Aftermath", whereas the tape included with the German release contained a dubbed version of the episode "Beast Wars (Part 1)".
Merchandise
Beast Wars
- Ofurode Tatakae Tako Tank (1998)
- Accessories: 3 effervescent bath pucks
- "Bath Fight Tako Tank" is a "diving" style tub-toy, which came with a non-posable translucent blue PVC figurine of Ikard.
Notes
- Ikard's name derives from the Japanese word for "squid", ika (烏賊 or イカ), combined with "Picard" (ピカード), because Ikard is a starship captain, y'see.[1] His full name includes "October" (a play on "octopus" or a reference, via the tenth month, to his ten arms) and "Bacus", which is "Scuba" spelled backwards in Japanese (and thus hard to retain the word play in English).
