Back-asswards this.

Storm Jet is the leader of the Air Team, five robots who make up the legendary super-energon-fueled super robot Superion Maximus. Even though he's an expert marksman with heavy firepower, Storm Jet is a brawler at heart, a rowdy robot who's always itching for a fistfight. If there aren't any Decepticons to smash, then he'll pick on his fellow Autobots in order to instigate a brawl. Even warnings from his commanders don't seem to dampen his need to smash stuff... he just takes it out all the more on whatever luckless Decepticon happens to cross his path.

It may have seemed like he was a voiceless drone, but internally he was grieving about what had happened to his old rock buddy. You'll never see him being a leg, no sir!

When the current Decepticon leader Megatron discovered a hidden chamber and four ancient, towering guardians, he destroyed one of the Autobot guardians, reactivating the ones that remained and revealing the Super Energon pool they had been guarding for countless years. Ambition Superion Maximus awoke to find his brother dead, with the Decepticon leader claiming the Super Energon for himself, absorbing its power to become Galvatron. Superion tried to stop him to no avail, so he split up into the Air Team and escaped, with Bruticus Maximus and Constructicon Maximus in hot pursuit. Wishes

During a virtual training match between the Autobots and Decepticons, Storm Jet led the Air Team against the Destruction Team and the Construction Team. The Autobots combined into Superion Maximus to take on both Bruticus Maximus and Constructicon Maximus, but were eventually defeated. Distribution

Superion Maximus flew in his component vehicle modes as the Autobots made their way through the maze-like routes beneath Cybertron's surface. The Omega Train

Storm Jet and the Air Team had their revenge against the Destruction and Construction teams during a final show down with the treacherous Decepticon combiners. Bruticus Maximus and Constructicon Maximus double teamed Superion Maximus, who held his own, managing to briefly fend off Bruticus before pinning Constructicon to a wall with his limbs, allowing Storm Jet to crush Constructicon's spark. However, Bruticus Maximus recovered and destroyed Terradive, Sky Shadow, Treadshot and Windrazor, leaving Storm Jet alone. As he was crushed by Bruticus, the ghost of his brother appeared, destroying Bruticus' arm. Storm Jet took the opportunity to recover the dead Constructicon Maximus' limbs, and transform back into Superion Maximus. Before Bruticus could recover, the Autobot pierced his spark, causing an explosion which engulfed them all. Spark

Storm Jet (still combined with the Constructicon limbs) was last seen crumpled in a heap as the Energon Sun exploded nearby, bathing the universe in light. As it shone upon him, Superion Maximus's eyes glowed with life once again. The Sun

Storm Jet was never referred to by name, nor was he ever presented as a sentient, individual being. Most of his appearances were as the torso of Superion Maximus.

Toys

Energon

  • Superion (Multi-pack, 2004)
Takara's Super Link Afterburner transforms into a Cybertronic jet based vaguely upon an SR-71 Blackbird spy plane. He also forms the torso of the team's combined Superion mode.
Afterburner features several instances of misassembly: namely, his inside legs are swapped so that the knee joint faces the wrong way. Furthermore, his shoulders are also misassembled, since there is a molded chevron... in his armpit. These problems are carried over to all subsequent releases of the sculpt.
All five members of Superion were only available in the Takara Super Link line as part of a complete super-robot multi-pack, released in the sixteenth wave of toys.
This mold was also used to make the 2008 Universe toyline's Superion component/team leader Silverbolt, as well as the identical-except-for-the-packaging Target exclusive Revenge of the Fallen Superion component/team leader Silverbolt.

  • Storm Jet (Combat Class, 2004)
Hasbro's Energon Storm Jet was sold on an individual card, in the sixth wave of "Combat Class" (aka "Deluxe") toys.
Storm Jet is largely identical to Afterburner, with the most notable change being Storm Jet uses a cooler stone-gray than Afterburner's tan-gray, as well as a lighter shade of clear-blue plastic. Most releases of Storm Jet also have the gear-shaped "Powerlinx" symbol on the top of his jet mode between the Autobot symbol and his spark crystal, a detail Afterburner lacks, but the initial release of Storm Jet also lacks this bit of deco. Oops!

Universe (2003)

  • Storm Jet (Deluxe Class, 2005)
Storm Jet was repackaged on a Universe-themed card (but still in the Energon-style longer-than-tall configuration) and sold through discount chains in the U.S. like Big Lots!.
No mention of his combining ability is made on the cardback, presumably because only three of the four limb-bots were sold this way.

Notes

  • Storm Jet's bio mentions he has a large arsenal of firepower... yet not only does he have no accessories, but there are very few features on his toy mold that imply "gun". Maybe they all flip out of hidden panels or something.
  • Out of all the members of the Air Team, Storm Jet is the only member to not share his Generation 1 counterpart's Japanese name in the Japanese market, presumably because "Silverbolt" was already taken as the Japanese name for Armada Blurr. Thus Storm Jet gets to share the Technobot Afterburner's name in Japan.

Foreign names

  • Japanese: Afterburner (アフターバーナー Afutābānā)
