Dear admins, I've got the following error message while trying to add en:Concave mirror to section wikipedia of Q15646769 (Concave mirror):

The data object linked to this redirect is urgently needed, otherwise doesn't show up in foreign language Wikipedia entries on this very subject. This is due to the fact that the English wikipedia has obviously decided to merge concave and convex mirrors in one wiki entry about curved mirrors only.

The data object Q1506584 (Curved mirror), which blocks the entry for en:Concave mirror in data object Q15646769, is fine, so it can't be removed as suggested by the instructions from the initial error message when trying to add it without an intentional sitelink badge, to allow the proper English entry to the data object “concave mirror” to show up properly in foreign languages.

Same issue with en:Convex mirror and data object Q1783529, also here I can't add the needed intentional sitelink badge, and the error message asks me to ask an administrator, which I follow hereby.

Hello, the English sitelink for this article still has the old name which redirects to the correct one. It should be 'Club YLA' and not 'Club Brugge KV (women)'. I think there would be a strong case for limiting how many pages an IP could create, say 5-10 per week. We see a lot of IPs churning away creating items. While some of these are alright, many are problematic, and communication with them is just difficult. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask people to create accounts if they're going to be creating items in bulk. It is essential that we are able to communicate with anyone doing bulk changes. Verpetino shows the same behaviour as the already banned user &beer&love. He is running different scripts at the same time without control. Several times now he made hundreds of edits that simply make no sense like adding date of official opening (P1619) to ships or home venue (P115) to sports events. In particular he does not understand the concept of a season (Q27020041). When I first became aware of his doings he added sports season of league or competition (P3450) to single tournaments. Instead of undoing his mistakes I had to undo them myself manually. Because of his mass output I have no idea how much more damage he has done. Only two days later he started with home venue (P115) and I warned him to be more careful. He did not show the slightest reaction, instead he started adding season (Q27020041) to single tournaments (example). Sounds reasonable, indeed. &beer&love (6.1M edits) has already used block evasion accounts Hey80'Q (2020, 1.1M edits) and OppsMetal (2021, 673k edits) on a larger scale. Deletion activities of User:Joshbaumgartner

Like years ago, Joshbaumgartner has re-started his crusade of deleting the manufacturer's names from the labels of aircraft.

He did this in at least 26 cases during the last 20 hours alone.

Some two years ago there was a very lengthy discussion between him on one side and three other editors (User:Esquilo, User:Tm and myself) on the other. Conclusion: In summary, all except him insisted on keeping resp. re-instating the manufacturer's names in aircraft labels. He had deleted thousands of them before.

Joshbaumgartner still is the only editor in the entire Wikidata world who wants to delete those complete names; nobody else prefers this strange deletion policy, in my opinion close to systematic vandalism.

Examples: He changed "Fisher Horizon" to "Horizon" only or "Flitzer Z-21 to just "Z-21". Both "Horizon" and "Z-21" are ambiguous or meaningless labels.

These destructive actions of a "Man on a Mission" have to be stopped, to avoid future edit wars, quality destruction and damaging the reputation of Wikidata. --Uli Elch (talk) 09:16, 3 June 2023 (UTC)

@Ameisenigel: I'm sad to see this but not surprised. There was no one worried about this issue since 2014 until two years ago when Uli took issue with something I said in a discussion on Commons and their hounding that followed crossed over to my edits on Wikidata and Uli in particular has taken poorly to my following of what limited guidelines and policies there are concerning labels. There was indeed a lengthy conversation which resulted in no consensus and the limited guidelines at Wikidata:Labels remain limited and only in a proposed form (and mute on this particular question). Both approaches are currently in place on 10s of 1000s of items. However, discussion on the issue of aircraft labels belongs on the labels talk page or other appropriate forum, but here I must address the more scurrilous charges against me that are relevant to this noticeboard:
  1. Violating consensus - They did not say exactly these words, but this seems the gist of their 3rd paragraph. There is no accepted policy for labels, and nothing I have done goes against the proposed policy. The discussion they cited did not reach a consensus, and never even got through actually laying out the legitimate points of each position and addressing them.
  2. "systematic vandalism" - In no way do my edits even come close to vandalism. They are 100% a good-faith effort to improve Wikidata and comply with the limited guidelines in place related to this issue. If a policy or guideline was to be adopted which called for a change to my edits, I would gladly lead the effort to bring them into compliance with that policy or guideline.
  3. "future edit wars" - I'm not sure whether Uli is issuing a threat here, or attempting to frame my future behavior here, but I am not tracking down Uli's edits and reverting them, nor trying to force my edits on top of theirs. On the other hand, that is exactly what Uli is doing. Take "Flitzer Z-21"--yes, I intentionally picked a few obscure items that were incorrectly assigned P31:Q11346 statements and while fixing that I did fix the label as well, interested to know if Uli was back to their hounding ways. They were. I did not agree with Uli's reverts, but I likewise didn't engage in edit warring and go back and re-instate them, no matter how strongly I felt about it. Unfortunately, Uli does not exercise that same restraint, so maybe from their vantage point, the threat of an edit war is real.
  4. "quality destruction" - Okay this isn't a specific Wiki sin, but still a bad thing I think we can all agree. But am I guilty of it, no. I am just doing my best to lend a shoulder to the wheel on this project and improve the quality. Uli and I don't agree on exactly what label format works best, but neither are destructive. As long as both the base name and the name with manufacturer appended are in the label and/or alias fields, then any user can use either form in their search and see all forms at the top of the item when viewing. For machine access it is even less consequential. Calling it destructive is not just unnecessary hyperbole here, it is flat out wrong.
  5. "damaging the reputation of Wikidata" Really? A little difference of opinion over the exact format of aircraft model item labels is damaging the reputation of Wikidata? Clear hyperbole here, nothing more.
That last one, as ridiculous as it is, is emblematic of the whole approach to these things by Uli and a couple of their compatriots since they tried bullying their way on an issue with me on Commons a couple of years ago. They stand in contrast to the hundreds of productive and consensus-building discussions I have had with other users on all manner of issues. I contribute on a lot of topics across a wide swathe of Wiki, and so my time in Uli's space is limited, but I do try to avoid triggering them, as responding to their attacks and giving the effort to engage in discussion with someone who clearly has demonstrated zero respect or willingness to even discuss in good faith is frankly exhausting and time consuming (not to mention usually fruitless), and I'd much rather be contributing improvements to the database than going in circles with Uli and their crew.
I am sorry this went on a bit...there is a bit of baggage here and it really is all kind of silly in the end, but thank you for your time and hopefully we can all get back to the good work. Josh Baumgartner (talk) 07:51, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

urwiki does seem to have active administrators who are making deletions (@ Yethrosh, Tahir_mq, اقبال کا شاہین), so I'm not sure why they're unable to keep up with deletion requests or respond to AN threads. If they're just spread too thin, I believe they can request to be a "global sysop wiki" which will get them some help, although I'm not sure what the exact process is. To save us work and time, we might also consider automating the further process, i.e. adding some sort of statement to items that say “the notability of this item hinges on a sitelink that in normal circumstances would be speedily deleted within a short time span”. Hmm. So we would be marking items as "deletable except for this pesky sitelink"? I do see a lot of such items being listed on RFD, and it would allow for rapid resolution. We might want to have an abuse filter that prevents spammers from removing such a claim. Also, there might be BLP issues in publishing a claim that some living human is non-notable.

Changing WD:N is indeed probably hopeless since a vocal minority tries to make every person who has ever lived notable. If we move forward with my idea, we might want to limit statements to clear cases lest we create a parallel hierarchy of notability. I'm not sure but ... maybe using an apposite badge on the problematic sitelink could be a solution? I have nonetheless decline speedy for this. I have had recently a meeting with Sam Walton from WMF to help us with tools than we could use to have pages nominated for deletion easily, closed easily - instead of having to do the tedious work manually. If others could help us with that, I would really appreciate. If anything makes the RfD processes broken, it is first and foremost, the lack of infrastructure, and perhaps then having those people as admins who have less to do with administrative works than they have to do with content making. The GS-disabled list is meta:Special:WikiSets/7. pawiki is on that list, apparently added as part of its initial creation in 2010.

Support or opposition for a long-term range block

Well, the blocks were ineffective. The culprit returned immediately only to vandalize more. Some investigation reveals it's very likely a sockpuppet of Special:Contributions/2400:2411:2e1:1800::/64. The vandalizing on Wikidata dates back to 2021 and on japanese Wikipedia he has two 3+ year long blocks, one for reverter vandalism going back to 2021 and one for sockpuppetry. Since he's now identified as a relentless block-evading crosswiki LTA vandal, I believe this calls for strong measures, and so I propose a one-year /44 range block. Since this is a strong measure, some discussion is warranted, but I would like to place the block by the end of today if possible.

Block evasion account creating errors

@Nuria2701: A series of dates of birth and death were added using the http://aa.xtraz.net/ca/cerca website, which doesn't appear to actually exist. We now have a list of errors with people who died before they were born: Wikidata:Database_reports/items_with_P569_greater_than_P570 caused by the addition. I am sure there are more errors not detected by this search. The website does not exist and the User who added the info has no interest in correcting the errors. Can someone look into this. I posted to Project chat and contacted the User, but the errors are still in place. I haven't corrected them, so they can be used to find other errors that may have gone undetected. Semi-rigid molecule / Fluxional molecule

This page has two names and an error occurs. In French the "Molécule semi-rigide" page is link to the "semi-rigid molecule" and doesn't appear on the languages that you can select. Furthermore, the second name of the "semi-rigid molecule" is "Fluxional molecule" which I can't link the French Page since, it is already linked to "Semi-rigid molecule" but somehow doesn't show on the laguage list... It tells me that only a trusted member can make that change or an administrator. So thank you for investigating that part.

In the English Wikipedia, "Semi-rigid molecule" redirects to "Fluxional molecule", which only mentions the former concept briefly under "Further reading". ENWIKI used to have an article on "Semi-rigid molecule", but they were merged back in 2018. The immediate post-merge version said a little more, but it has apparently been trimmed back over the years.

Searching rangeblocks

Mediawiki doesn't have stock functionality to let you enter an IP address in the block log and have it match a range-block. It seems a tad silly not to offer this to at least usergroups with blocking permissions. I tried searching for a tool that lets me do this, but all I could find was https://rangeblockfinder.toolforge.org/ which seemingly only works on english wikipedia. Thanks. Turns out Mediawiki has this functionality, it's just slow and have been disabled as a result. I posted a proposal for how to make this scale properly on "Report a technical problem", as I believe this functionality needs to be available at least to anyone with blocking permissions. The little script I made for this already bore some fruit, enabling me to spot and block an LTA. Synergy might turn this into a proper tool usable for others that can be used to check for historic rangeblocks locally on Wikidata as well as checking for global rangeblocks. Right. The problem with this LTA (apart from the block evasion) is that many of the items seem alright or plausible if underverifiable, but there are apparently hoaxes mixed in, in pursuit of some agenda to rewrite Italian history somehow. I'm really not an expert in this field, which is why I keep calling on others to help confirm the detection before I go for massive deletion. I wish we had a more streamlined process, as it is a little painful to do the deletions after they've fallen out of the recent changes window. Bovlb (talk) 20:07, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
And just a note that, while it's clearly the most popular one, notability is not the only reason that items get brought to RFD. So apparent notability is not a good reason to close an RFD that wasn't filed for notability reasons. Having said that, I take half the blame by not describing the background of the request properly. Well, the first paragraph of RFD starts with Items that do not meet Wikidata's notability policy can be deleted. Please nominate items for deletions on this page under the "Requests" section below. That does imply that it’s all about notability. This is especially true if you consider that lacking notability is basically the only reason that is a (mostly) uncontroversial reason to delete – with the possible exception of WD:LP which shouldn’t be handled through RFD anyway. If I recall the Tobias Conradi cases correctly, there was quite some pushback against deletion. RFD isn’t really a good place to coordinate LTA efforts – and also not a really good place to discuss complex topics, the page relies too heavily on judgement calls by individual admins (such as myself). And overflowing to the point of template malfunction is an periodical problem. --Emu (talk) 20:44, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

Based on my experience with these IPs, many of their creations are very low quality, but some of it is occasionally useful. I do not think that the work needed to pick out the useful contributions would be worthwhile given the large volume of contributions, though, so I would not be opposed to a mass-delete. If you want to create items that won't get deleted, you need to pick subjects that will pass our notability criteria. See also User:Bovlb/How to create an item on Wikidata so that it won't get deleted.
Take Q120122147 for example. There are no references, URLs, or identifiers. This is supposed to be someone with occupation (P106) YouTuber (Q17125263), but they have no (claimed) YouTube channel. Bovlb (talk) 16:54, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

About a month ago, Ameisenigel has correctly concluded that this is a content dispute. I don’t think the recent history of Mil Mi-8 (Q155635) is a classic example of an edit war and it’s a good thing that this edit war hasn’t happened. There is still no imminent need for administrative interference.
I understand that this is probably frustrating for all parties involved, so I want to add an afterthought: To determine what constitutes “consensus” sometimes is more of an art form. But the opinions of an apparent big majority in a given field might give users some sort of guidance as to where their zeal is best put into action. This might be true for the Norwegian wikipedia, but you are using a template there [12] and this seems to be not good prgrammed. This is no reason for your deletions here. Wikidata is an independent project and stands for it's own, and not serve the no-wiki exclusively. This gentleman is a longtime contributor to the Wikimedia-projects, but has voiced disapproval of use of Wikidata for infoboxes on the norwegian wikipedia citing quality concerns and a strong preference for the old-fashion way, both reasons I can sympathize with. Ironically he doesn't seem too concerned about Wikidata best practices. He appears to in this case, as the norwegian proverb goes: "rette baker for smed" (eng.: punish the wrong person), which is unfortunate. Infrastruktur (talk) 11:12, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

By the way the newest deletions in Armour of God (Q1199513) should also be reverted to the last version at 07:43, 30 June 2023‎.
