- Hello Lucy, this is just to appreciate your sharing on the knowledge circle. I have always been interested in creating spaces and engagement for women (researches online). I wish to create articles for women. I love Wikipedia most amongst all the Wikimedia project, probably because I love research. My issue will be seeking the list of women to create. I hope to make more impact. Ngostary2k (talk) 16:46, 28 April 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hi! I have another one that will have more references for sure if you're interested: Ohio Women's Convention at Akron in 1851. It's where Sojourner Truth gave her "Ain't I a Woman?" speech. I'm so glad you're interested in helping out. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 18:30, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

- Hi @Megalibrarygirl: I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to make this article live - it's here now Ohio Women's Convention at Akron in 1851 - I really struggled to find any info about it (apart from the Sojourner Truth story). Editor of the Week
[edit]Editor of the Week | ||
Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week in recognition of your impressive beginning. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project) |
User:Alarichall submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:
- It is my pleasure to nominate Editor Lajmmoore to be this weeks Editor of the Week. This user has been a Wikipedian for just under two years, but in that time has created over 200 articles in English Wikipedia. Their start in life on Wikipedia doesn't seem to have been the easiest: their first two articles were deleted, but they were not put off, and rose above initial problems (with some [help from me]) to successfully recreate those articles and to create many more since with no difficulties. They have focused their efforts on extending Wikipedia's biographical coverage of women from the Global South, helping to correct a well known bias in Wikipedia's coverage. Where I have seen their editing work, I have been very impressed at their ability to track down and assimilate reliable information about important figures about whom information is not readily available on the Internet, including dealing with source materials in languages other than English (e.g. Aïcha Ben Abed, Paulina (wife of Pammachius), Fatima al-Suqutriyya). They have done their editing work in particular through active involvement in Women in Red (along with other projects), and notices on their talk page evidence a string of successes in getting pages they have created onto 'did you know?', again bespeaking their enthusiastic engagement with the wider Wikipedia community. I note too that they are doing a PhD and are contributing material to Wikipedia in the course of their research: User:Lajmmoore/PhD Research. I've had many PhD students of my own and, while all lovely people, they are uniformly fabulously reluctant to share their knowledge in this way. Lajmmoore points the way towards a more open future for academia, and a greater willingness among the gatekeepers of the world's knowledge to share it.
You can copy the following text to your user page to display a user box proclaiming your selection as Editor of the Week:

Women silversmiths
[edit]Not sure if this is the sort of thing that might be up your alley, but a couple of years ago I purchased this catalogue from the National Museum of Women in the Arts gift shop:
Philippa Glanville; Jennifer Faulds Goldsborough; National Museum of Women in the Arts (U.S.) (1990). Women Silversmiths, 1685–1845: Works from the Collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Thames and Hudson. ISBN 978-0-500-23578-2.
I've pretty well bled it dry of all the women in NMWA's collection (they claim to have the most extensive collection of silver by women silversmiths of any museum, which I quite believe), but there are a lot of other names listed, in case you ever want to follow it up. Not sure about notability, unfortunately, but at least it's a starting point.
Incidentally, if you ever do get to the Washington, DC area, I highly recommend NMWA for a visit - it's a fine little museum, very nicely done. One of my favorites in the city, honestly. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:56, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Vandalism
[edit]Hello. I noticed that someone with a masked IP published a false information about me here. A search on Google in English and Farsi clearly reveals that I am not a self-claimed thinker and artist as my biography has been published in the media. Moreover, several authors have published it in their books and many reviews on my works have also been published in journals. Some of these sedondary sources are available on the Web. The reason why this person with a hidden IP has published this false information about me on Wikipedia is that I have worked in different fields. However, as I explained here this hostility is not justified. As you have created this entry about me on Wikipedia, if he or she publishes again any false information about me, please remove it. Thanks. Taraneh Javanbakht — Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.23.194.41 (talk) 12:32, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

Need a little help pls
[edit]Hello, Lajmmoore I trust you're well. Kindly help me out with this image of a late Nigerian first lady. Working on her article and couldn't find a free image. Does the image above qualify for Fair use like you did with Felicia?? Thanks really!--OtuNwachinemere (talk) 13:45, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
- OtuNwachinemere, hey! Lovely to hear from you! Since she's dead, you can use any image under the Fair Use terms. There's the "upload file" in the left hand tool bar, if you click that, then click "upload non-free file" then it will take you through a few questions. Step 1 is added the image, Step 2 is describing, then Step 3 is the more legal bit. Under Step 3 - select "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use." Then there's a box for the page name, then in the next box, select "This is an historic portrait of a person no longer alive." This opens another box entirely! In that box - which starts "Deceased since" - you add when they died, and in the subsequent boxes where you got the image from, etc. If you don't know, put unknown. Then there's two further questions. The first is "Please explain why a free alternative to this image cannot be found." - here you want to say something like, "the subject is deceased, so a new image cannot be taken, and there are no images freely available". The next question is "Please explain why you are confident that our use of the file will not harm any commercial opportunities of its owner." - here you'd want to put something like "it is low resolution" The final question is "In view of this, please explain how the use of this file will be minimal." - here say something like - "it will be used in one article". There a box for "further relevant infomation" which you might have to click (but not put anything in) in order for you to be able to press upload. Let me know if you have any issues! If the steps feel like too much hassle, I'm happy to do it for you, just let me know! Lajmmoore (talk) 14:11, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

I award you this barnstar in part because of your diligence in creating biographies about women who are associated with under-represented countries on English Wikipedia. But it's your creative depiction of this work, e.g. commons:File:Circular list of 20 countries with lowest % of biographies for women on EN Wikipedia - spring 2022.jpg, which amazes me with its awesomeness. Hi, and wondering if you can help
[edit]I have been working on this draft for Onyx: Black Lesbian Newsletter for a couple years (lol). I just submitted it but I wondered if you could help me improve the article? I tried to find an image that I could use- there are a number floating around on library websites, for example SFPL but I wasn't sure if I could use them, & I'm also not sure how to insert images. Thanks! Fifthcoastbobcat (talk) 19:53, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- Fifthcoastbobcat, Congratulations! I remember you mentioning this page - so excellent its live! The library website link looks good to me - they are a trusted sources (I think). My other pro tip is to find sources using a search via Google Books, or Google Scholar. A quick scholar search showed https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1300/J082v30n02_03 & https://www.jstor.org/stable/40545573 - lmk if you've got issues accessing them! Hi Lajmoore
[edit]Thank you for your comments on my article on Wanjuhi Njoroge - they are very helpful as I am totally new to editing Wikipedia. I am a volunteer at the Science Musuem Group. I don't know how to get the article moved from Drafts but I can see on the Women in Red page that you seem to have it in hand. CuriosityScribe (talk) 09:49, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Hi Lajmmoore
[edit]Many thanks for your useful comments about my article on Sheila McGuffie. I have changed it a little and would be grateful if you can make it live if you think it's now ok. I wasn't sure if the additional 2 references you suggested (which I knew about but wasn't sure if they were suitable - so thanks for confirming that they are!) should be placed in an 'External Links' section or in the 'References' section -I chose the latter. I've searched quite a lot for more references for Shiela, including all the WES journals, but this is all I could come up with. Maybe once it's published others will be able to add to it. CuriosityScribe (talk) 12:57, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- CuriosityScribe, Looks great! I've added a tag and done a little copy edit - there's one place where adding a reference is needed. To improve, you could also add some sentences linked to the info in the infobox! e.g. She went to University at + reference. Happy editing! Lajmmoore (talk) 13:55, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- CuriosityScribe, you could also add her name to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/184 page Lajmmoore (talk) 13:57, 6 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi Lajmmoore
[edit]I have recently published a couple of Wiki pages on Women in STEM - Ella Mary Collin and Kathleen Mary Cook. If I search for each of them in the Search Wikipedia box they come up, but if I Google search for them neither show up! I presume I did something wrong when moving them from my Sandbox. I used the 'Move' option under More and it seemed to work. I'd appreciate your advice. Thanks. CuriosityScribe (talk) 19:32, 13 September 2021 (UTC)
- CuriosityScribe, congratulations on your new articles! Amazing work! So, I imagine it is something to do with the fact you're pages might be going through a sort of "triage" system, where another editor sort of signs them off? Women in Oceania contest
[edit]Hi Lajmmoore, Glad to see you are jumping in to the Women in Oceania contest! Could you wait until October to start adding articles? Because it is a contest, and you are often a contender, it would be best if your entries are all in the set time of the contest. Thank you. - OOPS! I had forgotten the contest bit. Thanks for the reminder! I'll leave that one there, but wouldn't expect it to count! Cheers Lajmmoore (talk) 19:56, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

Ko rabwa
[edit]Hi, I have discovered the article binabinaaine and add some minor infos from a Gilbertese point of view (te aine means simply the woman in Gilbertese, same word fafine in Tuvaluan). There is nothing in the article about binabinamwaane (women that acts like they are men), that exist in the Kiribati society but unfortunately I have never seen an English essay about this close category.--Arorae (talk) 10:58, 6 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks so much Arorae - your edits are brilliant - they are really appreciated. You can add sources that aren't in English to the article, so if there's something in Gilbertese or another language then that would be a brilliant addition. It's something I had wondered about, but like you say - could not find a source. Lajmmoore (talk) 11:54, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of Jacquetta Hawkes
[edit]The article Jacquetta Hawkes you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Jacquetta Hawkes for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Mass messenger
[edit]Thanks so much for considering joining the WIR MMS crew—since MegaLibraryGirl is mostly offline and Rosiestep’s hands are tied as a trustee, I’d be so grateful for backup. It’s really not technically hard at all—only a bit daunting as far as so many people receiving it! But the task itself is just three blanks to fill in (subject line; source code of the invite, already proofread at that point; and the name of the page that has the addressees, helpfully saved on the page where we draft the invite).
I can show you exactly, if that sounds like something you’re up for! Innisfree987 (talk) 03:56, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks Innisfree987 yeah, I'll help out. I'll look for the guidance (I'm assuming there is some!) - do I need to ask for special permissions for my account (I'm not an admin)? Cheers Lajmmoore (talk) 11:22, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
- So many thanks! Guidance is at WP:MMS and yes it’s a special perm. You see that to request it, they usually like to see someone’s previously submitted a request to have a mass message sent, to demonstrate understanding of the guidelines. We could try to get our act together well in advance of January so you could make a request to have them send the invite to notch one (might be feasible actually; two editathon pages are already started). Or you could just request an exemption as I did. Either way, I’m happy to write out an exact sample as a model. Innisfree987 (talk) 18:05, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Innisfree987: ... oh I could join in with this as well. Might not need permission as I'm an admin but need to check. Victuallers (talk) 13:47, 29 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Victuallers, oh that would be great too, and I do think you already have the permission, as an admin. When you go to: Special:MassMessage, can you see a form to fill out? Innisfree987 (talk) 20:03, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. WiR translation contest
[edit]Hi there, Lajmmoore, and thanks for participating in our translation contest. Unfortunately, with 108 words Veasna Chea Leth is still too short. To qualify for the contest it has to have at least 160 words of running text. I realize the Catalan article is just as short but if you can find additional material, you can expand the article and return it to the main contest list. Otherwise you should start with longer articles in other language versions.--Ipigott (talk) 10:37, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

Access dates etc
[edit]Well done for creating the missing Yangsze Choo.
Don't forget, when re-using a ref from another article, to update the access date. When I see refs with access dates earlier than the first creation of the article, my first thought is that someone has copied a chunk of another article, unacknowledged. Not the case here obvs, just saving work by using the ready-formatted ref, but the access-date should always be saying "this is the date on which I consulted that website, so the state of it on that day supports the statement I'm sourcing" - useful if the site disappears and someone is hunting it down in archive sites, or if it's a fast-changing website.
I've also added publication dates to some of the refs, always good to include ( but not all-numeric, per MOS), ditto authors. Not sure what to do the Tatler Asia ref - some editors put "staff" as author-name. And undated too!
Ah well. The NI Troubles are rearing their head in Big Jubilee Read. And so it goes. Cheers. PamD 22:31, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "massmessage-sender" user right, allowing you to send messages to multiple users at once. A few important things to note:
- Messages should only be sent to groups of users who are likely to be interested in the topic.
- For regular mailings such as those for WikiProjects, localized events, or newsletters, users should be informed of how they can unsubscribe from future mailings.
- The mass messaging tool should never be used for canvassing with the intention of influencing the outcome of discussions.

WiR A-Z
[edit]Hallo, Good to see this set up and ready to go, but I wonder, belatedly, if it's a bit confusing at present?
Might it be clearer to cut out "active in climate topics", as that suggests that we're limited to that ... or we could add as a separate sentence: "As there is a whole-year project on "Climate", any A-B women active in climate topics would be especially appropriate" or something like that?
And "Contributors are of course also welcome to add articles on any other women who deserve to be covered, for example under the topics of the month or our comprehensive #1day1woman priority." seems a bit strange/superflouos?
OTOH we could explicitly mention "See below for some general lists of women missing from Wikipedia, from which you might like to choose an A or B this month"? And/or perhaps "If you've got a "To Do List" of "Articles to write some day", are there any As and Bs just waiting for this month's editathon?"
It somehow doesn't quite hang together. But, I know, I shouldn't criticise unless I'm willing to do the work! Thanks for all your efforts.
I've realised that today's "following trails down rabbit-holes" article creation of Lynn Buckle could have ticked the box if I'd left her till tomorrow (I don't believe in these "early start" entries!), but I'm sure I'll find someone else, possibly even an A/B climatologist from a Baltic state. All the best. PamD 15:47, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks @PamD - I think the issue is I used the climate page as a basis, but those bits you highlighted should have been cut out alrady, but got missed in the copy editing. Would you be OK to cut them out? Thanks for picking this up! Lajmmoore (talk) 05:37, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

National Trust
[edit]Hi, I saw your note on the Knightshayes Court Talkpage and wanted to drop by to say hello, and offer any assistance. My interest is mainly architecture, and I’ve worked on a fair few NT articles, including four that have made FA, Chartwell, Cragside, Sissinghurst Castle Garden and Ham House. If I can help in any way, just ping me. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 17:11, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hello @KJP1 thank you so much for messaging. I'm doing a recce of NT pages at the moment, but I'll be sure to get in touch with you - especially if we end up considering nominating any changes to any of those pages you mention. Happy editing! Lajmmoore (talk) 17:39, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
I saw your declaration of COI on Lundy I have also worded on several NT related articles (particularly in Somerset including getting List of National Trust properties in Somerset to FL status with many being GA articles in their won right). I wasn't aware thet National Trust was a redirect to the UK National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty rather than the other NTs at National Trust (disambiguation). You might want to take a look at Category:National Trust properties in England as I believe there are some which have articles which are not included in the category. If you need help let me know.— Rod talk 19:26, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks very much @Rodw and thanks for the pointers - I'll be sure to look at your suggestions and get in touch, especially with Somerset-related things! Thanks again Lajmmoore (talk) 07:47, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

- Thanks so much @DisillusionedBitterAndKnackered, and thanks for the appreciation of the ethics. Thanks for your work on the existing NT pages already! Lajmmoore (talk) 16:07, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- That's very kind of you, thank you. I have also emailed you about non-out-able type stuff! Cheers DBaK (talk) 16:19, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
I wanted to add my petulant whinging voice to those of these fine and major editors. I am particularly interested in the current policy that the Trust has on the use of interior images of properties, which are sometimes very sadly lacking at articles for NT properties. Many thanks and I wish you every success in your project. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:46, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks very much @Martinevans123 - really appreciate your honesty! I'm not familiar with the background on NT image use - if you have time and inclination, would you be able to email me? It sounds like the kind of thing that my line manager would be interested in hearing more about. Lajmmoore (talk) 16:52, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Can I add a comment here. NT does not allow reuse of images from their web site, (see https://www.nationaltrustimages.org.uk/pages/terms-and-conditions ) which limits editors ability to illustrate articles with good quality images of furniture, fixtures etc. Several people were surprised I was able to add images to Tyntesfield - one time when I visited the volunteer just said that I couldn't use flash but otherwise taking pictures for any use was fine. It would be good if NT managers considered appropriate Creative Commons license licences. Looking at the commons page on licencing may help.— Rod talk 17:13, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- (e/c) It's not very complicated - I have enquired on a number of occasions at properties and the answer has always been "personal use only" (and why not, NT has to protect the value of it's wonderful guide books somehow). I have even emailed the Trust about specific properties and have been told "you can only post external ones at Wikipedia". I was just wondering if anything had changed, or if policy varies between properties. Will also try and email you anyway. Many thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:15, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- p.s. thanks for the info, Rod. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:16, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks @Rodw & thanks @Martinevans123 - I did wonder if it was along those lines. Its really interesting to hear both your experiences on obtaining images (or not); I can't promise any change, but I can promise to pass these comments on. Lajmmoore (talk) 17:20, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Rodw and @Martinevans123, I shared this talk page with the project manager on Tuesday, who was really interested in your comments. I'll be sure to give you an update if/when I have one Lajmmoore (talk) 15:59, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
Structuring edits
[edit]Hello @Rodw:, Martinevans123, DisillusionedBitterAndKnackered, KJP1, PamD please can I ask your advice? The next stage of the NT pilot is looking at enhancing pages that are in the "Top 10 Most Visited" properties list (on the NT page), with a view to removing citation needed tags. My question whether, as other editors, you would prefer it to be done on a reference by reference basis, or in one big scoop on a page? For clarity, I lean towards CN by CN, but I didn't know if there were other opinions? Thanks very much for the support and comments so far Lajmmoore (talk) 17:37, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not quite sure I understand your question. Doing each citation needed tag individually allows other editors to see what & why you are doing (and possibly revert), but sometimes it is appropriate to do a load together particularly where one reference may support several claims in the article. If the existing referencing uses a variety of formats which would be better harmonised (& added to) then I will sometimes copy it into a sandbox & do multiple edits before copyoing it back into the article - see my recent edit to Buscot Park trying to provide some of the citations you asked for.— Rod talk 17:44, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- e/c Hi Lajmmoore. No preference from me. Whatever is easiest, I suppose. Once a good source is found, it often can be reused in the same article. Articles do vary, though, on the style of citations, which should always be consistent. But I guess you know this. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:45, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- As with others, whatever is easiest. As an aside, and you may well know them, the Historic England and Cadw templates are VERY helpfu, e.g.{{NHLE|num=1211481|desc=Queen’s House|grade=I|access-date=4 July 2022}} I’m constantly surprised that they aren’t used more often in UK architecture articles, e.g The Queen’s House, Greenwich, which I was looking at today, doesn’t. They provide an invaluable link to the HE/CADW listings - and can give you a lot of cites! KJP1 (talk) 17:48, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- p.s. - Have you thought of archiving your Talkpage! KJP1 (talk) 17:50, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

- Whichever works for you: but, please, if you're using Visual Editor can you somehow give your references decent names? I loathe and detest the ":0" etc ref names which VE produces: they make it so difficult to keep track of sources if you're revising an article later. I don't know whether VE has any option to use sensible ref names, or whether it would be a case of adding them manually. VE's ref naming goes against WP:REFNAME which specifically says "
Names should have semantic value, so that they can be more easily distinguished from each other by human editors who are looking at the wikitext. This means that ref names like "Nguyen 2010" are preferred to names like ":31337"
" But that's just one of my hobby-horses. This was raised in the "Community wishlist survey", and ranked 5th, but seems to have gone quiet with a pretty unhelpful alternative proposal. See https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2019/Results. (Hmm, I might follow round your list of NT properties and see if they all have all the necessary redirects, dab page entries, etc, talking of my hobby-horses!) PamD 19:59, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
Article titles
[edit]There's a whole interesting issue about what the articles should be called. I've looked at Category:National Trust properties in Cumbria and its child Category:National Trust properties in the Lake District. "Sizergh Castle and Garden" was presumably NT's official name for it at one point, though in the current handbook it's plain Sizergh, and common parlance would call it Sizergh Castle (an existing redirect). Is the article about the historic building (or chunk of landscape) per se, or about the NT's property? Some interesting articles like Windermere and Troutbeck, again presumably an NT estate-management handle, completely unreferenced but for an EL to the NT info on Townend, not mentioned in the text! (I wondered about AfDing that one, as it seems pretty useless). We have Wiki article Wasdale, Eskdale and Duddon, which NT website treats as two separate entities, W and E&D. You've got an interesting task, trying to optimise Wiki articles for NT properties. I created a few redirects and spent far too long on a new dab page at Stagshaw. Have fun. (By chance I'm seeing my Elgar connection tomorrow, first time for a year, and will ask her about current situation - though not sure whether she still works there). PamD 22:46, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for all these ideas @PamD - I think this is the kind of thing I'll be tacking in a couple of weeks! Will keep you posted. Lajmmoore (talk) 16:04, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
- It turns out my Elgar connection hasn't been involved with the place since shortly after the NT takeover - an acrimonious parting of ways - so she has no idea what the current status is! But the article clearly needs an update. Good luck with the project. PamD 20:24, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

One of the new pages that has been requested as part of pilot is for the Dolmelynllyn Estate in Gwynedd, which already is a redirect. I've made a draft for the page in my sandbox (a couple of gaps still to fill though), but what I can't work out is what process to follow (or where the appropriate WP rules are) so filling out a redirect can still go through the AfC process? Do any of you know? Or have experience in this? Or would you suggest posting at the AfC talk page? I did start a discussion, which led to this question at WP:Wales; it was there that I realised this might be more complex than I had supposed. As ever, very grateful for your time and guidance. Happy editing Lajmmoore (talk) 11:16, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for this excellent question. I am looking forward to watching you get brilliant advice from my friends, whilst I look on cluelessly and hope to learn something! Cheers and keep up the good work DBaK (talk) 11:25, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, you can use AfC if you prefer. Generally you should be able to move User:Lajmmoore/sandbox to Dolmelynllyn Estate yourself, as the destination is a redirect with no further history. (Don't forget to select article space rather than user space, which I often do.) If for some reason that doesn't work, you can use WP:RMT to get a pagemover to move the draft for you. TSventon (talk) 11:29, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- @TSventon: I think this editor is using AfC because she's a declared paid editor and doing things properly, so although in practical terms she could do that, that's not the issue. I think just use AfC as usual, and then the editor who approves it at AfC will have to delete the redirect before moving the article to mainspace. (But I have very little experience with AfC so may be talking through my hat.) PamD 11:49, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- @PamD:, thanks, that was what I was trying to say, once I had reread the question. TSventon (talk) 12:12, 26 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks @PamD and thanks @TSventon - that approach makes sense to me. I'd forgotten that an admin could perhaps delete the redirect prior to a move. Lajmmoore (talk) 15:02, 26 July 2022 (UTC)

Short descriptions
[edit]Hallo, As I understand it the idea of the short description is to complement the title, aiming for 40 characters or less, so that someone with the title + short description can see whether it's the article they're looking for. I've trimmed the one for Elgar Birthplace Museum because I thought it was too long and duplicative. Wikipedia:Short description makes it clear that in some cases "none" is the most appropriate, if the title says it all. What do you think? PamD 11:13, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- Ah, looking at your "edit tracker" I see the project is well under way - only crossed my radar when you hit the Elgar Birthplace, as I created that one a long time back (a friend worked there and it seemed good and notable, and it was probably before Short Descriptions were a thing!) Reading the section WP:SDNOTDEF matches my thoughts on what a SD should be, pretty much: not duplicating the title, and putting key distinguishing words near the front. "House" is probably more useful than "Grade II listed building" for Allan Bank, don't you think? PamD 11:37, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- But more important for Elgar Birthplace Museum than the short desc is probably an update needed: it says "For the five years 2017–2021 the museum will be administered by the National Trust ..."! But doubtless you're working on it (looks as if you're working through a batch of SDs and talkpage declarations, prior to getting seriously stuck in to those articles, judging by your contributions of today). Good luck with the project. PamD 11:43, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hello @PamD that's for sending the SD guidelines - I think I installed the SD helper, but forgot to *actually* read the guideline. & yes, I'm just doing a quick recce of NT pages, to see what's what. I'm not sure if this project will enable me to tackle EBM, as I'm sorting out priorities to cover next week, but I'll keep it in mind. Cheers! Lajmmoore (talk) 13:15, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

Powis Castle
[edit]Hi, I’m wondering if you might be able to do me a favour. I did some work on Powis Castle a while back. The article’s in pretty good shape, and it could be pushed forward to GA/FA at some future point. One thing it is lacking is a decent photograph of the restored Marquess Gate. I don’t know whether any of the staff/volunteers at Powis are Wiki users, but if they were able to take a photo or two and upload it, that would be very helpful. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 16:09, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hello @KJP1 I can certainly pass the request on. The page looks fantastic and it would be really wonderful to GA/FA I agree! Lajmmoore (talk) 18:42, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- I like collaborations. I did a bit to help User:Isaksenk take Ham House to FA. She volunteers there. And both Cragside and Sissinghurst Castle Garden were joint efforts. If you, or any of the staff/volunteers, would like to try to take Powis forward, I’d certainly be up for that. KJP1 (talk) 20:13, 25 July 2022 (UTC)
- One note of caution; FA can be an effort, and success is not guaranteed! KJP1 (talk) 20:16, 25 July 2022 (UTC)

Penrhyn Castle
[edit]Hi Lajmmoore,
I’ve been thinking about your NT project a bit more. I wonder if there’s something that could be done with Penrhyn Castle. It’s a striking example of some of the issues the Trust, and society, need to address. And it’s a good, but not unique, example of the current culture wars being played out here and more widely. You’ve got an amazing 19th century building, stacked with important artwork. But it was built on the exploitation of slaves and maintained by the, lesser but still ruthless, exploitation of Welsh slate workers. How does the Trust respond to that, and how does Wikipedia in its article on the building? No answers, but it’s an article that prompts strong views and throws up some challenging issues. KJP1 (talk) 21:54, 30 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @KJP1 thanks so much for bringing this up, and raising all these questions. I've passed them on to the NT manager who is responsible for this pilot, although I'm not sure I'll have time to address much as there's 7 days work currently left. I'm going to try to set some time aside to look at the page history thoroughly though. Thanks again for being thoughtful and supportive around this pilot. Lajmmoore (talk) 07:15, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- Yes - reflecting on it, I did think it was a big ask for your short pilot! But I do think Penrhyn Castle throws up some big issues, for the Trust and for Wikipedia, that we’re all going to need to reflect on and respond to. All the best. KJP1 (talk) 07:39, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- @KJP1 if Lajmmoore doesn't have time, could you add some notes to the article talk page? The starting point should probably be how reliable sources are responding to the issues. TSventon (talk) 08:24, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- @KJP1 & @TSventon I passed this on the pilot manager, who sent a couple of links which could be used to expand the content. I'll add them to Penrhyn Castle's talk page now. Lajmmoore (talk) 09:28, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
- cc. @TSventon - Hi Lajmmoore, hope you are keeping well. I have given Penrhyn Castle a bit of a wash-and-brush up. If you, or TS, have time, I would be interested in any thoughts on it, particularly the Slavery and Slate section. Best regards. KJP1 (talk) 14:24, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

- @HelgaWKraft hello apologies for the delay in replying, I was away. It is not advisable to edit your own Wikipedia page, but what you could do is leave a message on its talk page (kind of like a noticeboard), requesting that another editor make your suggested changes. Please include some references to support the infomation (a url is fine). There's a blue button on the talk page that says "Start discusion" - I would use that. Rashi Yisroel Shapiro American Orthodox Rabbi, Psychologist, Musician
Dr. Rashi Shapiro is a prominent leader in the Orthodox Jewish world of psychology. He was born in 1953 in Washington, D.C .and was named after the great rabbinical sage and biblical commentary, Rashi. His father Rabbi Aharon Shapiro was rabbi in Linden, NJ and Queens, NY. and a professor of economics. His mother, Marta Berl Shapiro, was a professor of English literature and at age 50 became a lawyer.
Rabbi and Psychologist Rashi was ordained rabbi at age 23 by Rabbi Abba Berman at Bais Medrash Iyun Hatalmud, Monsey, NY. His first position in 1975 was a teacher in the Mesivta of Greater Miami. In 1978 he took his first pulpit at Congregation Ohr Hachaim of Miami Beach. He was also the director of the Horeb Seminary for Women, a division of the Talmudic University of Florida. He also taught at the Hillel Day School in North Miami Beach. [1] The rabbinate required counseling intervention with families in the community, and Rabbi Shapiro trained in social work at Barry University, Miami where he completed his MSW in 1982. In that year, he founded and directed “Hypnotherapy and Counseling Centers of Miami”. During this period he perfected hypnosis for smoking cessation while researching past life regression. [2]
Upon coming to New York Rabbi Shapiro became the director of the Tikvah Clinic, the Orthodox Jewish mental health center of the New Hope Guild. In 1986 Rashi completed his doctorate in clinical psychology at Long Island University while also training at the Maimonides Mental Health Center and South Beach Psychiatric hospital. I did take quick look at what you shared below, but I don't think there are sufficient secondary sources that prove notability (according to Wikipedia's guidelines). I would discourage you from trying to re-write it yourself, as that is a Conflict of Interest. I'm hopeful that someone in another WikiProject will have capacity to guide you. As director of the Tikvah clinic of New Hope Guild, Dr. Shapiro founded the program for psychological Services to nursing homes where he trained and supervised 50 psychologists who treated the elderly.
In 1988 Dr. Shapiro created the day hospital at Pesach Tikvah – Hope Development in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn where he serviced the chasidic community of Satmar. He eventually became the executive director of the agency. [3] Since 1991 Dr. Shapiro has been devoted to his private practice and continues to consult in New York, while supervising in Israel and Florida. [6] Dr. Shapiro is currently training therapists in unique and unorthodox treatment strategies for the ultra-orthodox and chassidic community. He is singular in his promotion of group therapy for the orthodox Jewish community.
In 2004, Rashi Shapiro returned to his prior role as a rabbi to the summer pulpit, the Hebrew Congregation of Loch Sheldrake, NY. [4] [5] In 2022, he retired to the position of Rabbi Emeritus where he continues to teach the daily page of Talmud, Daf Yomi. [7]

n 1970, at the age of 17 Rashi Shapiro founded the first folk-rock Jewish music group named "Rashi and the Rishonim". [8] He gave concerts in the U.S. and in Israel often performing with the stars such as Shlomo Carlebach (The Singing Rabbi), the Rabbis' Sons and Theodore Bikel (prominent Jewish folk singer and actor) [9] The band received critical acclaim for their first album, but Rashi abruptly quit the band to pursue religious training in Israel. The album is, today, hailed by record collectors as one of the rarest and most desirable records in the genre of Jewish Folk Music. Personnel on the LP were Rashi Shapiro (vocals, Cordovox, guitar, harpsichord); Heshy Gruenberger (vocals (alto-tenor)), Shelly Lang (vocals, Duovox); Josh Neustein (vocals (baritone)); with Abby Warshaw, Yussie Lieber and Steven weiss on additional guitars, Yisroel Lamm and Sam Weiss on trumpets, Elliott Federman on drums, and Mickey Lane on bass guitar.

- hi @Soapisdaddy I'd recommend going through the WP:The Wikipedia Adventure before you make any edits, to get to know how things function. Then, I would take a look at the style of articles similar to the one you have in mind. Next step is to assess the sources for the subject - do you have more than 3 trusted, independent and reliable sources to support the notability of the page? Just so you know, I split a bunch of unrelated content from Dolmelynllyn Estate to User:Lajmmoore/sandbox/old. You are welcome to do whatever you wish with it (G7, leave it be, etc). Primefac (talk) 21:00, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

- It's not a proposed split, I did split it. See Special:Log/138642599 and Special:PermaLink/1119134214#Requests_done; the content that is now at User:Lajmmoore/sandbox/old used to be in the history of the Estate, and has been split out. Primefac (talk) 07:54, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi
I hope you're well?
I work for a company called GEW (EC) Limited. We're a global manufacturer of UV curing systems in the printing industry, and the leading manufacturer of these across multiple applications within the industry. I've noticed that a number of our competitors have company pages but we don't seem to. How can I go about creating this page?
Thanks

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Women in Red newsletter
[edit]Hello, Lajmmoore,
In future Women in Red newsletters, could you include a link to unsubscribe? I visit a lot of user talk pages for indefinitely blocked editors and I'd like to take them off your mailing list since they keep filling up their talk pages. Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 06:44, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
- hi @Liz thanks so much for offering to help with that! I think the "opt-out" link in the invite is the way to do it - this takes you to our outreach lists and i think you can just delete usernames from there? I'll suggest we change the wording to unsubscribe though. Just tagging @Ipigott, @Oronsay, @Rosiestep for information Lajmmoore (talk) 07:32, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
- Glad you brought this up, Liz. I'm also concerned about sending out messages to contributors who have not been active for years or who have passed away. The messages are triggered by our Outreach lists. When we receive requests under the Opt-out option, we simply remove names from the appropriate list. If you are sure contributors are no longer able to edit, then of course you can remove the names yourself. Maybe it would be possible to design a feature which would draw up lists of the names which should be removed from our lists. Any ideas?--Ipigott (talk) 07:45, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Stowe Gardens
[edit]Stowe Gardens is looking good. I'm not doing GA reviews at present but a few comments:
- Lead - 5 paras (could be merged to 3). Text in para 4 is bold - why?
- Images - there are lots of pics which may "pinch" the text in some areas & there are some white areas (eg in "The Temple of British Worthies"). I see you have some galleries (eg statues) - perhaps some of the other images could be put into a gallery or left in the commons category.
- Subheads - lots of subheads with small papargraphs - maybe some of these could be combined
- Referencing - all paragraphs supported by relaible sources
- Tags - in "The Rotondo" there is a tag on "The current" - best to change this to year dates.
Good luck with the GA nomination but can be a long wait.— Rod talk 17:44, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

I need help with a mystery
[edit]I decided for Black History Month/Folklore editathon to write Gloria Cameron. It is crazy hard. She wrote an autobiography but clearly left stuff out, like her mom's name and her own birth surname, for starters. I found links to her appearance on This Is Your Life that said her mom was a surprise guest on the show. Surely she didn't appear without a name, so I wrote the person who has the site to ask if they could provide me a link to the video or her name. She was very, very prominent in the West Indian community in Britain from 1958 to 1988. There's tons and tons of material about her in newspapers in the UK and Jamaica until 1988 when she was involved in a trial. After that date, there is virtually nothing until 2015 when she wrote a book about being falsely accused. Heck, her obituary doesn't even give a death date. So, my issue is that I cannot publish the article without secondary sources confirming her version of events. I have no idea what the case name is. I have tried British newspapers, Jamaican newspapers, google scholar, books (archive.org, google books) and the Black Cultural Archives and there is literally nothing after 1988. Her legal name was Florence Tina Cameron when she died, if that will help. I need to know her mom's name, have some sourcing from someone who is not her about the trial, and it would be really, really helpful to know the name of the case. Any ideas? SusunW (talk) 22:35, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @SusunW this is getting a bit beyond my own research skills, but what I will do is ask some researchers I know who work in similar areas to see if they might know how you find the name of the trial? I'll get back to you to let you know if they can help. You've done an amazing job so far. Lajmmoore (talk) 08:18, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. That'd be wonderful. It might also be that we don't need the name of the trial if someone has access to the black press. The Voice and other papers are supposedly available at the Black Cultural Archives, but it's a wee bit far for me to "set an appointment" and go there from southern Mexico. But for mainstream UK press, it is doubtful that there is coverage of her, at least that was my experience in searching and writing the article, so we'd need the trial name, I think. SusunW (talk) 13:36, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- Spent a couple of hours weeding through a search for "Southwark Crown Court," "Valerie Pearlman" 1 February-28 February 1989 and found what I need.[1], [2] ... and they did list her as Florence, which seems weird to me. All the pre-trial stuff was Gloria, so it is as if no one wanted it known that she had been found not guilty and was the victim of "A small and tightly-organised group of people [who] were desperate to destroy Mrs Cameron and her family". I do appreciate the offer of help and if her mom's name could be found, that'd be lovely. SusunW (talk) 17:57, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- @SusunW that's amazing Susun! a friend if mine has forwarded the message on to a friend who works on this exact period, so hopefully they will be back in touch soon. I tried a few other routes but you were much more effective! Lajmmoore (talk) 19:26, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
- It's called dogged-determination (or maybe just OCD ). I searched WIPAG, I searched West Indian Nursery, I searched Grisham Road, well, you get the drift before finally hitting on trying the name of the court. I would be most grateful for anything they find. I still don't want to publish it without knowing her birth name or mom's name, but I will if that is the only possibility, because I think her story needs to be told. SusunW (talk) 19:34, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from Zetaconese on User:Zetaconese/sandbox (09:54, 21 March 2023)
[edit]Hi, how can I send this draft for review? --Zetaconese (talk) 09:54, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
- hello @Zetaconese - at present the draft should not be sent for review, since it contains zero references. Every point you make needs to be supported by an independent, reliable source - see WP:CS. Feel free to add references to support the article and come back and ask me to take a look. While you're doing it please also check that the subject meets the notability requirements WP:Notability - good luck! Lajmmoore (talk) 14:29, 21 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @Lajmmoore, Thanks for your feedback. I have added references to the article, could you take a look at it? Best, Zetaconese Zetaconese (talk) 10:19, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Zetaconese I took a look at the draft again and it's great to see some sources added, however they aren't in-depth coverage of the subject that explains why they are notable. Reviews are a great place to find supporting material. As it stands, it wouldn't pass review. You need to reference everything to be honest, so I have put some markers to indicate where. There's also a lot of close-paraphrasing, so I would recommend re-writing the article using new vocabulary. I've added some comments in Italics. Lajmmoore (talk) 11:54, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

Question from National Hispanic Medical Association (15:54, 17 May 2023)
[edit]Hello! THank you for your services to Wikipedia. I recently created an article for the National Hispanic Medical Association, a well established NGO based in Washington, D.C. I wonder how long it usually take for it to go public.
Thank you!! --National Hispanic Medical Association (talk) 15:54, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
- @National Hispanic Medical Association there's two major things you need to address - changing the name of the account and the fact the article has zero references. These are explained on your talk page (which is kind of like when people leave notes on a Facebook profile). It won't be published I imagine until both things are addressed. I appreciate you've put lots of work into the draft, but every statement needs to be supported by independent, secondary sources (so not just the organisation's website). Happy editing, let me know if you have other issues Lajmmoore (talk) 16:18, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

The article Jerelle Joseph has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Plutonium27 (talk) 12:38, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi, I have done a bit of Wiki editing in distant past, but I noticed the article below, which is something I've written about in two published books. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Reflections_(Indianapolis_band). I want to add a little more information. 1. Photo of Chicago's WLS Radio top-40 chart showing this song. 2. A photo of the artists in the studio where they recorded it. 3. A link to a YouTube video that has been heavily viewed over the years. 4. Potentially, an excerpt from one of the books about this incident. Is this all okay? --LarryinLW (talk) 22:14, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
- hello @LarryinLW - you're right that the article need expansion! In terms of the suggestions you made: 1. do you own the copyright of the image, if so yes add it to Wikimedia Commons, if not don't upload it - there are stringent copyright rules here 2. ditto 3. Yes - add a subheading under references entitled 'External link' and create a bulleted list 4. a short excerpt would be OK, but reference it appropriately. There's lots of support for new editors at WP:Teahouse too Lajmmoore (talk) 07:39, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hey! Thanks for the input. And as you might have guessed, I'm struggling. I have two images I wanted to post. So I started with uploading them in Commons page. It seemed simple to me; these are copies of four Top-40 charts from a radio station in 1964 that were freely distributed at the time. Obviously, they would be in the public domain. Back when I was writing a (published) book about my experiences in music I think I got these from the author of a book on singing groups. I scanned them and pulled them into one image. Here's how that went: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:LarryinLW#c-AntiCompositeBot-20230626030500-Copyright_status%3A_File%3AFour_weekly_WLS_Top-40_playlist_charts_for_January_1964._
- Not sure how to fix this.
- The second image is a photo of the Reflections in the studio where they recorded the song referenced. I haven't tried to upload it but it is a publicity photo from back in 1963. I'm in the picture, and two of the three others are no longer alive. Is it possible for me to upload this?
- Thanks for your help. :)
- Larry J. Dunlap LarryinLW (talk) 23:40, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @LarryinLW - so I think the issue with both will be copyright. Just because something is freely distributed, doesn't mean that it can be shared on Wikipedia. A rule of thumb is 70 years since the creator of an image died, but this doesn't work in all cases, and there are exceptions. I think for the WLS image, it would be the successor of Radio Chicago that now owns copyright, so they would need to give permission for the upload. For the image that you are in, the copyright would reside with the photographer, or the organisation employing them, so a similar issue would apply. Lajmmoore (talk) 05:58, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Okay. So I give up. I'm trying to finish a trilogy I'm writing, and at my age, I just can't afford time to follow up on issue 1 and as far as getting clear on who took the photo of us back in 1963? I could only guess, and if it's who I think it might have been, he's been dead for something like 30 years. However, thanks for your help. LarryinLW (talk) 21:02, 2 July 2023 (UTC)

Question about Daniel Quasar article recent additions and edits
[edit]Hey there, I see you have taken quite the vested interest in my page, and I appreciate all the work you're doing. I have an issue with a recent edit that I want to address more privately than from the talk page itself. It pertains to the section Reception.
This new section reads defamatory to me and without appropriate merit for some of the things being said. It lacks the nuance and complexity of the issue being highlighted. It also is one-sided and has none of the positive reception that I have garnered for my work, both the flag and beyond. Right now it feels like a section to punch down and I find that really distressing. It also feels inappropriate to have a Reception section that is solely about the flag on a page that is about me and my history. Should it not be on a page about the flag, since it is the subject and not myself as a person?
I know this will seem controversial but I am going to remove the section myself until this can be resolved. Wikipedia needs to be unbiased and right now it feels biased. Please reach out to me so we can discuss this further. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danielquasar (talk • contribs) 07:24, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Danielquasar thanks for being open about your concerns; there was no defamatory intent on my part and am happy for compromise - I think your point about a difference between your biography and the flag's afterlife is sound. I'm on a work retreat at the moment, but I do think getting support for your edits from the wider community would be a good thing - I'd recommend posting in WikiProject LGBT perhaps? I will have time w/c 24 July to come back to this, and I am so sorry I can't participate more fully right now. Lajmmoore (talk) 08:05, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response and also while you are away! I hope you are having a good time. I appreciate your working with me on this. I actually went over to the Rainbow flag (LGBT) page and felt it worked much better in that context than it does on my page. If my opinion holds any weight, it should stay there and not be on my page.
- When you get back and are able to discuss this more, I have other edits and additions I'd love to be considered. Please be well and thank you again for reaching back to me. Danielquasar (talk) 08:21, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

Stray apostrophes
[edit]Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. The recent Women in Red October 2023 and Women in Red November 2023 newsletters each have stray pairs of apostrophes, presumably intended to close italics. They each have this markup:
* Continuing: [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/251|Peace and Diplomacy]] <small>(year-long initiative)</small> '''|''' [[:en:Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/252|#1day1woman]] ''
The final ''
causes a missing end tag lint error. For more info on lint errors, see WP:linter and please consider installing lintHint to check markup for lint before saving. Cheers! —Anomalocaris (talk) 20:43, 27 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from BlackSpace7 (13:34, 2 November 2023)
[edit]Could you please review my references and inform me which sources are not reliable? All the sources come from outlets such as ESPN, Apple, Tubi, etc. Is the issue related to the order of the references, or is it related to how the article is written? Please advise on the steps I should take to ensure approval. --BlackSpace7 (talk) 13:34, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- @BlackSpace7 There's two questions to consider when making a new page: notability and reliable sources. For notability, I'd encourage you to look at this guidance - remember there needs to "signficant coverage" - which means depth in the sources, not just lots of passing mentions. For sourcing, compare what you're using to this non-exhaustive list. Not everything is suitable for inclusion in encylopaedias though! Lajmmoore (talk) 13:42, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
Question from ArchaeoChacha (19:25, 5 November 2023)
[edit]Greetings, I was editing many years ago under the username: ChachaScholar. I wished to sign back in under that name, but I no longer have access to my old email. Therefore, I saw no option but to open a new account. As the only archaeologist who has excavated and written extensively about the Peruvian archaeological sitef of Gran Pajaten and Manachaqui Cave (Chachapoyas Culture), I sometimes look to see if my older entries have been replaced by pseudoarchaeology and/or false, politically-motivated entries. I have no need to replace either (if that is against Wikipedia policy), but I would like to see the scientifically demonstrated, peer-reviewed narratives represented. For example, I note that the majority views of professional academic archaeologists is not represented in the entry for Chachapoyas Culture. Thank You. Warren Church, Ph.D. --ArchaeoChacha (talk) 19:25, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @ArchaeoChacha - welcome back! It will be great to have you back in the community! The first thing I would recomment is setting up a User page (you should see that icon in red under your name) - please state that exactly what you explained above, that you no longer had email access so have a new account. I would link to this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/ChachaScholar just to be extra transparent.
- In terms of editing, I would look at the sections on self citation and curation which help guide people with research interests and specialist knowledge. You might also want to say hello on the talk page of WP:WikiProject Archaeology several editor there are also concerned with pseudoarchaeology. Any questions feel free to get in touch. Happy editing! - Hey @1namesake1 so I would take a look at this list which I find pretty helpful. allafrica.com is an acceptable source for sure. I'd maybe look for more sources in French? This might be useful too! I'm not sure what the news platforms are in Cameroon, but looking those up might be a good move. Lajmmoore (talk) 23:47, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much - I really appreciate your help! 1namesake1 (talk) 23:48, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
- @1namesake1 I'm not sure how the deletion nomination is going to go, but you can always ask for the article to be moved back to draftspace, then embed the content from it in other articles. It seems writing an article for the actual award that's being discussed might be a good move Lajmmoore (talk) 09:21, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

- Thank you @Lajmmoore. I will give that a try and start with an article of the award itself. 1namesake1 (talk) 16:23, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from JemBurrows (02:44, 7 November 2023)
[edit]Hi there! I am new to the world of Wikipedia editing though I've done lots of other content creation. I've been contacted by a notable sportsperson in order to write a short, factual article about them on Wikipedia. I have been reading about the ethics of doing this and I realise that what I publish can be edited by others and actually, negative things about the person may be added (if they have a valid source) and then may not be able to be removed. I am interested to hear your thoughts on this and wonder whether this is a common thing? Looking forward to hearing from you. Jess :) --JemBurrows (talk) 02:44, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @JemBurrows that's totally normal - no one "owns" a Wikipedia page (especially the subject), and they certainly aren't static. In fact a "good" page is one that lots of community members contribute too. Lajmmoore (talk) 23:59, 8 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from PocketWorms (02:50, 4 December 2023)
[edit]Hi! Sorry if this worded weirdly but I would love to start trying to find sources for wikipedia is there like a hub where I could get assign some?
and it has been a very long while since doing like finding citations but is there anything I should avoid in general?
thanks! --PocketWorms (talk) 02:50, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @PocketWorms (excellent user name) I'd recommend going to WP:Teahouse which is a space for new editors to ask questions just like this (& it might already be answered). I'm based in the UK and a broad rule of thumb for finding sources is: broadsheet (reliable) newspapers, academic books and articles. There's a non-exhaustive list here WP:RS/P which might be helpful too. I'd recommend starting with topics you're neutral about, one way to find places to start making edits is to put Category:Stub-class in the search bar, which will bring up lots of different options for very short articles that might need expanding. Since you're new, I'd also recommend setting up a user page, saying "Hey I'm new, please help me out". Happy editing Lajmmoore (talk) 08:41, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from MichaelGormanEditor (18:57, 13 December 2023)
[edit]Hi there! I was wondering how to remove a photo that I added to Wikipedia Commons? I made a mistake in posting it and I want to undo it. --MichaelGormanEditor (talk) 18:57, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hey @MichaelGormanEditor if you can send me a link to the image, I can see if I can help? Lajmmoore (talk) 22:25, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there. Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I got it down. Could you help me with my page about Nancy La Vigne though? It's been waiting for edits for a long time.
- Draft:Nancy La Vigne MichaelGormanEditor (talk) 02:59, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @MichaelGormanEditor so I think there are a range of improvements to make. Firstly, the page looks quite a lot like a CV, so turn some of that into referenced prose. Secondly, the main source you rely on is a pdf of her CV, which isn't a reliable secondary source. I would look for alternative references to support its claims, for example for the awards, from the awarding bodies. Thirdly, none of the professional service is referenced. Every claim needs to be supported by a reliable secondary source. Fourthly, think about what is encyclopaedic - Wikipedia isn't necessarily a place to put every aspect of a person's career. If you can't find an independent reliable source for a claim, remove it. I do think she is notable, but it's the sourcing and that it looks like a CV that are the issues. Good luck! Lajmmoore (talk) 09:07, 9 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Lajmmoore thank you for this! I totally understand why my previous layout was not encyclopaedic. I was relying too much on that CV. Just sent in the most recent version. Thanks again! MichaelGormanEditor (talk) 20:45, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
- That looks so much better @MichaelGormanEditor - are there any sources that are also critical of La Vigne that could be included? Also, there's a sentence which is mostly a quote - i think that needs a bit more context, and if you go to templates you could add it as a quote in a box maybe? It's looking tonnes better though! Lajmmoore (talk) 20:52, 11 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you!! I just changed the quote you mentioned. I couldn't find a critical take on La Vigne - I'm not sure she's under criticism in a public fashion. Do you think the article needs it? MichaelGormanEditor (talk) 21:29, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Looks great @MichaelGormanEditor. I'd add the awards to the lead, then submit it for approval. In terms of criticism, maybe make a note on the talk page that you looked for it (to make the article more balanced) but couldn't find any. It just helps to show neutrality. Lajmmoore (talk) 21:49, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Sounds good. Do you mean that I should add the honors paragraph under the intro paragraph? Just added that note. MichaelGormanEditor (talk) 22:31, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah, or just a short sentence saying she got X and Y awards. Lajmmoore (talk) 22:33, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Got it. Is submitting for approval different than the usual 'publish changes' I've been doing? MichaelGormanEditor (talk) 22:39, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, so at the moment the article is in the draft space, and you want it be in the article space. I'm not sure what permissions you have, but you could try:
- 1. Look on the right hand column, under the tools heading
- 2. Click move
- 3. Where it says Draft in a drop-down box, scroll up and select (Article)
- 4. Slightly further down is a box that says Move page - click that and it should lead you through.
- I think what might happen is that it might need to be reviewed by another editor - I can't quite remember the process. (I'm mentoring, not technically reviewing I guess) Let me know how you get on! Lajmmoore (talk) 22:53, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! Just did it. Does it need any work in terms of sort keys? I saw a note about that but I'm not sure what to do about it.
- Nancy La Vigne MichaelGormanEditor (talk) 22:59, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Brilliant! Yes, so right at the bottom of the page it says Categories - if you press the blue + you can then type things like "Living people" or others - I'd get ideas from another biographical article Lajmmoore (talk) 23:16, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you!! Just did it. MichaelGormanEditor (talk) 23:29, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hey @MichaelGormanEditor - article looks great. The next important thing to do is add links to it from other articles. What I would do is go to each of the blue-linked articles and add a sentence at each of those that relates to the content on La Vigne's page e.g. is she mentioned on the National Justice page? This will make her article much more easily discoverable. Happy editing Lajmmoore (talk) 09:14, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

Question from Murphyjanet (18:18, 27 December 2023)
[edit]Hello! I used the Wikipedia Talk feature to add some information about the origin of the Syrian golden hamster. I was hoping someone could add that information to the original article. I am Dr. Michael R. Murphy's widow and accompanied him on his field trip to make the second capture of wild Syrian golden hamsters in 1971. Murphy received his Ph.D. in Brain and Behavior from M.I.T. in 1972. He used a colony of his wild hamsters for his own research in evolutionary behavior, behavioral neuroscience, and behavioral pharmacology, published in scientific journals between 1971 and 1981. I do not really want to become a Wikipedia author, but hope that someone can take the information I have and make it available to others. I am happy to be contacted regarding the information I have. I made a mistake in my original submission by saying the Murphy strain of hamster was kept at N.I.M.H. -- it was N.I.H. --Murphyjanet (talk) 18:18, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks @Murphyjanet for the information - I've pointed a few other editors to it, but the key question is where/whether this information is formally published somewhere? If you have a link to your husband's 1971 work that would be really helpful Lajmmoore (talk) 22:21, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
- Dr. Murphy wrote a wonderful chapter called "History of the Capture and Domestication of the Syrian Golden Hamster (Mesocricetus auratus Waterhouse)" in the book The Hamster edited by Harold I. Siegel (Plenum Publishing Corporation, 1985). He published a scientific paper on it too: Murphy, M. R., 1971, Natural history of the Syrian golden hamster—A reconnaissance expedition, Am. Zool. 11:632. I have reprints of the book chapter and probably all of his published papers which I could mail to a Wikipedia editor to use. For many years Dr. Murphy was probably the world's expert on this animal and was called upon by other scientists to restore certain strains that were dying out.
- I wrote a photo book about the expedition itself using Shutterfly and am in the process of writing a book that does not depend upon photos. To share the Shutterfly link I think I would need an email address to send it to. I am happy to share my own email address with an editor who has questions I can answer. 136.51.1.213 (talk) 13:19, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, Happy new one!, could you take a look at the latest edits I have done to the article? Would be wonderful to ready your insights, thank you! --Zetaconese (talk) 21:14, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- Do you mean Draft:Juan Felipe Waller? If so, there's a few things to alter. Firstly, and most importantly, you need relaible secondary sources to support all the claims in the article. There is a chunk of unreferenced text, still. Secondly, whilst there's lots of primary sources - you need to include secondary sources to establish notability e.g. reviews of their work, articles about them (not interviews so much), perhaps where their works are discussed in academic contexts? Thirdly the very top paragraph should summarise what else is in the article, so if there's information there that isn't anywhere else it should be also in the main text too. Hope this helps @Zetaconese. Lajmmoore (talk) 09:12, 9 February 2024 (UTC)

"david, david owusu-ansahowusu-ansah" in Konadu Yaadom
[edit]Hello,
Sorry for my bad english, I'm French. ^^'
I don't understand in Konadu Yaadom the "david, david owusu-ansahowusu-ansah" in reference 1, that you did in January 2021. It may be a copy-paste error? The authors are really Akyeampong and Gates, aren't they? Regards. Slzbg (talk) 17:48, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Slzbg you are right! I think it's an error when using the atomic reference detector. I don't have a keyboard with me, so feel free to fix it! Lajmmoore (talk) 19:28, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

- AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), with one FA on Hö'elün, two GAs on Mongolia-related articles, and two DYKs;
- Vami_IV (submissions), with one FA on Doom (2016 video game), one GA on Boundary Fire (2017), and 11 reviews;

Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. WikiCup 2024 March newsletter
[edit]The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.
The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:
- Generalissima (submissions), who has 916 points mostly from one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher), 15 GAs, and 16 DYKs on a variety of topics including New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures, in addition to seven reviews
- Vami_IV (submissions), who has 790 points from two FAs on Felix M. Warburg House and Doom (2016 video game), two GAs, one DYK, and 11 reviews
- AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who has 580 points from one FA on Hö'elün, two GAs on Mongolia-related articles, two DYKs, and five reviews
- Sammi Brie (submissions), who has 420 points mostly from nine GAs and seven DYKs on television and radio stations
- MaranoFan (submissions), who has 351 points from one FA on Holidays (Meghan Trainor song), a nine-article FT on 30 (album), and three DYKs
- Skyshifter (submissions), who has 345 points from one FA on OneShot, one DYK and two reviews
In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.
Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. [edit]Hi , thank you for accepting to be my mentor. I wanted to publish my biography for two purpose. First to recognize the people that have helped me achieve what I did in life and how it has made a difference in the business community and to inspire youngsters to pursue their dream and show them that anything is possible. I also wanted to document my life for my family. Your advice will be more than welcome. Thanks again for your help and support. --Georges Courteau (talk) 11:09, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Georges Courteau thank you for your message and welcome to Wikipedia. The encyclopaedia has guidelines around conflict of interest, and as such, writing about yourself would be a significant COI. I would strongly discourage you from writing about yourself. You can however put in a request for someone else to write an article, if the available sources meet the notability requirements. Lajmmoore (talk) 21:18, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

I plan to organise more in future, so if you'd like to be notified next time, please say so over on the meetup page.

Claggy (talk) 08:06, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @Claggy thank you for your drafts, it can take up to 3 months for drafts to be reviewed, so please be patient. Reviewers are all volunteers, just like you. That said, I did review Arrest of Topher Richwhite and Bridget Thackwray and that's now live. Make sure you link to it from other Wikipedia articles, if you haven't already done so. I took alook at Draft:Khadijeh Mirdamadi - but I don't think being the mother of a world leader meets notability requirements, as its entirely dependent on her children, not her own individual achievements. With these figures I always ask myself "what else have they done" - could their notability be linked to philanthropy or other things? I looked at the links you shared and the BBC one is broken and the others really are about her son's relationship with her *not her achievements in her own right*. If I was you, however, I would just move some of the content from the article to her son's page in the family section and withdraw the draft. (I edit primarily about women, so I am quite loathe to say this. A parallel to look at is Nelson Mandela's mother - there are sources about her, but that's not enough - she has to have done things too). Lajmmoore (talk) 07:33, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your information and help. I fixed the BBC links also. Claggy (talk) 11:16, 18 May 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Lajmmoore:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in June 2024!
Running from June 1 to 30, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Going Back in Time! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 20 centuries by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!

[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Falemata'aga - Museum of Samoa logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. Your userpage
[edit]Hello,
I noticed that on your user page, you state that My pronouns are she/her
. It would be helpful to other editors if you went to your preferences and selected "use feminine pronouns", so I don't have to click in to your user page to get your pronouns (because of a setting I'm using). In addition, please consider archiving this page, it takes quite a while to load (please let me know if you'd like to set up automatic archiving, I can do that on your behalf). If you reply here, please ping me. — thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/ $ 01:37, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks @TheTechie I didn't know there was an option in preferences, I'll sort that sort. Tbh I used to use amanual archving tool, but I think the one I was using stopped, and I fell out the habit. Either way I quite like just having everything here, and I appreciate the offer of help. Lajmmoore (talk) 07:22, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
Hey, I am brand new, but my intention is to help fill out some needed articles for a variety of media, individuals and events. After 4 days and some edits on my own, how difficult is submitting new articles? --ZiggyPoet (talk) 03:38, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @ZiggyPoet thanks for your question. I'd read this guidance really carefully before you start any new articles, then submit them through a process called "articles for creation" where they get reviewed by others. I'd also make yourself familiar with WP:COI - I don't know what you're intending to edit (& what I edit changes all the time) but editing or creating pages related to the studio your part might be construed as a conflict of interest. Let me know if I can help further. Lajmmoore (talk) 07:10, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate your help. Maybe this is something I can hire someone to do. I have quite the history and want to start documenting it. From the studio, to my artistic career. I was in a disney film amongst others and have a number of published works across a variety of mediums. How does one actually get entered into wiki beyond breaking a cultural threshold? I apologize if im asking to much, I started this with intention to stitch up seo prior to the release of a film I produced.
- Cheers
- Z.P. ZiggyPoet (talk) 01:26, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
- So Wikipedia is general discourages paid editing and there is more information here WP:PAID. It's not simply the case that someone can be paid to create content, since for every statement on Wikipedia there needs to be reliable secondary sourcing to support it e.g. a third party writing about the significance of the studio . If the studio has been written about in that way, then you can request an article (see WP:RA) but its then reliant on another volunteer to be interested in working on it. Lajmmoore (talk) 07:53, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
Hi, I was hoping to create an article on a chess player Matas Raugevičius, I will be using sources like chess results(official chess tournament database), FIDE(international chess organization) and many others, but I can’t find where to create an article, can you help me with that? --Pynok (talk) 08:22, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Pynok - the instructions to create articles are here WP:ACR, but if you are interested in chess, I would encourage you to visit WP:WikiProject Chess and perhaps start learning to edit with some of the suggestions as you scroll down the page. You could also post this same message on their project talk page - I don't know what the notability requirements for chess players are, but that project will. Happy editing! Hi, please help. I dont undestant how page I do like to publish is deleted, when I do see similar pages on wiki. --Bacilah (talk) 13:58, 23 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Bacilah - thanks for your patience. I've been looking at the draft you submitted, and there are several ways it requires improvement, but first you should check that the subject meets English Wikipedia's notability requirements see WP:Notability. If they do (& I have not checked), then the first thing to do is add an inline citation for every piece of information. I know there is a list of links, but they really need be at the end of each sentence. This helps the reader see where each sentence gets its information from, see WP:IC. Secondly, the education section needs to be written in a paragraph, not as bullet points. Also with inline citation. Thirdly I don't think each business needs its own section, I would remove some details about them (since the article is about the person) and have it as one much shorter section. Wikipedia isn't just another place to put a CV. Maybe with these improvements, the article might have a better chance. However the first thing to do is check that he is notable enough. I don't know if you edit on other Wikipedias, but each language one has different criteria for inclusion. Lajmmoore (talk) 16:51, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
Question from DV.art.works (01:16, 25 June 2024)
[edit]Hi there, I drafted a new page in my sandbox and hit "Publish Page," and then learned that I have to make 10 edits prior to that page being published. I've made those edits to other Wikipedia pages, but am still not clear about how I complete the publication of that draft. What am I missing? Thanks so much for your help. --DV.art.works (talk) 01:16, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @DV.art.works - it's great that you're wanting to contribute to Wikipedia. I took a look at this draft which I think is the one you mean? Currently, it's not ready to proposed for inclusion to Wikipedia. Every statement in it needs to be supported by an inline citaiton (see WP:IC). Once you've done that, you can submit the draft for review, see this guidance: WP:AFCREVIEW. Another editor will come and take a look. Feel free to ping me when you've done that. Lajmmoore (talk) 16:56, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
Why some paid admin protected the page by force . without knowing the subject some admin just put protection so that their agenda can be pushed.this is very dangerous trend and for that reason wikipedia is not regarded as source of authentic information. Even Elon Musk have mentioned wikipedia as dickipedia --Hbmeitei (talk) 01:02, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Hbmeitei - I'm not sure what the question is that I can help you with? responding to the above - no administrators are paid. If they have undertaken any paid editing for an external body, it needs to be declared, see WP:ADMIN. Lajmmoore (talk) 17:02, 1 July 2024 (UTC)

The following editors all scored more than 400 points in Round 3:
- Generalissima (submissions) with 1,059 points, mostly from 1 featured article on DeLancey W. Gill, 11 good articles, 18 did you know nominations, and dozens of reviews;
- Skyshifter (submissions) with 673 points, mostly from 2 featured articles on Worlds (Porter Robinson album) and I'm God, 5 good articles, and 2 did you know nominations;

The full scores for round 3 can be seen here. So far this year, competitors have gotten 28 featured articles, 38 featured lists, 240 good articles, 92 in the news credits, and at least 285 did you know credits. They have conducted 279 featured article reviews, as well as 492 good article reviews and peer reviews, and have added 22 articles to featured topics and good topics.

Question from Gregorybotts (14:05, 4 July 2024)
[edit]Hello I have created a page. I published it. Wondered what the next step was. Thank You Gregory Botts --Gregorybotts (talk) 14:05, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Gregorybotts - we appreciate your enthusiasm for Wikipedia. However, our guidelines are clear that people can't write articles about themselves, see WP:COI. I suggest you contribute to the encyclopaedia by writing about other topics, not connected to yourself. Thanks Lajmmoore (talk) 13:20, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- I don't understand, there is not a word that I have written myself. The whole article is from other's writing. Artist after artist on wiki pedia are obviously writing about themselves, maybe through intermediaries, their obviously biased galleries. It seems that I can pay someone to upload this same information. Is that what I should do? If you read the article the writing is by the highest regarded art and literary critics of the time. Please advise as to how to get this information online. Thank You. Gregory Botts Gregorybotts (talk) 21:24, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Gregorybotts, so there are a few things to understand about Wikipedia: 1) that neutrality is key. its not possible to be neutral about ourselves, which is why there are guidelines that state you shouldn't write about yourself 2) no, paid editing is not encouraged (if people are paying for articles it needs to be prominently disclosed and to also adhere to all of Wikipedia's guidelines) 3) if you are writing for Wikipedia, all the words need to be original to you - you can't copy-paste from others sources (which I think is what you're saying above). 4) I'd take a look at this initial guide. 5) I appreciate you've added a range of sources, but there is a thresh-hold for what is included on Wikipedia - its called notability - for artists, one of the criteria is to have work in a national/international collection. 6) Sources - these need to be reliable secondary sources.
- In short though, you shouldn't be writing an article about yourself as it goes against Wikipedia's guidelines, so please don't carry on. One of the potential consequences is that user who don't follow guidance can be banned. As I previously said, if you're keen to contribute to Wikipedia, don't edit anything related to yourself, and just join in our global project Lajmmoore (talk) 09:16, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

It’s still very nascent so there’s lots to clarify and do, we’re discussing the scope at the moment. [edit]Thank you for contributing the page on my grandmother, Dorothy B. Waage. She was a very cool lady with many stories of her adventures across the Middle East. In fact, she first met my grandfather on a train in Egypt one such journey. As a young woman traveling alone in the 1930s! I am glad that her work is remembered and used by scholars today. - Thank you so much for the message - it's so lovely to hear from her family. I heard about her a couple of years ago at the International Numismatic Congress, and thought that she was someone who should be better known! Lajmmoore (talk) 09:04, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

Kind regards, Rune Larsen (theOnlyRuneYouKnow) --Theonlyruneyouknow (talk) 18:08, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Theonlyruneyouknow thanks for taking the time to begin to learn to edit. The revision above seems more stable now. However, the sources are primary ones (from the Church itself) and Wikipedia really prefers secondary sources - take a look at WP:RS - these are generally publications that write about a topic and are published in reputable places, such as scholarly articles and books, or broadsheet newspapers. To improve the section further, you could search google books, or google scholar to find more information to include. Lajmmoore (talk) 06:24, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

Women in Green's "Around the World in 31 Days" GA Editathon – October 2024
[edit]Hello Lajmmoore:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!

Suggestions for Veiqia
[edit]After seeing the Veiqia article listed at this month's Women in Green edit-a-thon, I wanted to make a couple of suggestions. I think the definition in the opening paragraph could be stronger, perhaps something like: "Veiqia is a female tattooing practice from Fiji, where women who have reached puberty are tattooed in the groin and buttocks area by older female tattooing specialists called daubati." Further on in the article it says "often in the groin and on the buttocks": does the word 'often' indicate they can also be applied elsewhere? If so, where? If not, maybe the word can simply be omitted. And the first image's caption could maybe briefly clarify (between brackets perhaps) the areas of the mentioned tattoos. Success with the GA review! – Editør (talk) 09:57, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
The article Veiqia you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Veiqia and Talk:Veiqia/GA1 for issues which need to be addressed. Question from Indigoblush (23:26, 4 November 2024)
[edit]Hello, Lajmmoore.
Indigoblush here. I'm a writer and an independent scholar based in Colorado. My MFA is in fiction, but I do love an annotated bibliography. I'm excited to contribute to the sum of human knowledge here on Wikipedia!
I just wrote and submitted my first draft of a Wikipedia article. Would you mind taking a look and letting me know what you think? I struggled with getting the citations in properly. They are in the in-line text, but they don't show up in the citations section.
Best,
Indigoblush --Indigoblush (talk) 23:26, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hey @Indigoblush thank you for your message. So there's a few things to do to improve the article, firstly to make the citation appear, in edit mode click the large " at the top of the editing window - a box should pop up with three tabs - automatic, manual and re-use - if you paste into automatic and click ok, that usually generates a citation for you, other wise, just pick a format under the manual tab and fill it in. More importantly, I think it would be useful if you read the notability guidelines more deeply - the sources you used are not 'official' enough OR are too closely related to the author. What you are looking for are reviews, independent from them, and articles or academic papers or pages from reputable websites that give evidence for their notability. Also, perhaps articles on their press. Have they won any awards? Awards are a really good way to show that people are notable. Don't get disheartened if the person you wrote about isn't notble enough yet, there are tonnes more people around who could be written about. See WP:Notability for guidance Lajmmoore (talk) 20:55, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from AnnabelleG69! on Platform economy (11:19, 17 November 2024)
[edit]Hello, I am still new at editing on Wikipedia and would like help in solving the error of « extra text » and « cite book » that appears when I want to add a reference --AnnabelleG69! (talk) 11:19, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @AnnabelleG69! thanks for your enquiry, I've had a look at your talk and before you do any more editing, there's clearly a conflict of interest - you mustn't edit an article that is about yourself and you need to declare all your conflicts of interest on your user page. To set up a userpage see WP:UP and for conflict of interest and what that means for editing see WP:COI. You need to at least add a sentence about your place of work, and that you've tried (unaware it was a COI) to edit an article about yourself. (see here for a box you can add to your userpage)
- In another example, adding yourself to other pages e.g. MIT Sloan School of Management, is also a conflict of interest, the thing to do, especially when you are new to editing to make a note on the talk page of the article that you want to mention you, and then another editor will usually add it for you. This way of working is much more neutral (which is a key guideline for Wikipedia), none of us can be neutral about ourselves!
- Further, whilst its great that you're adding information to articles from sources you've written, it's polite to also include other sources you may have read and the extensive bibliography you'll undoubtedly have access too. Wikipedia is all about "making the sum of all human knowledge freely available", so if you can draw on your wider reading as well, that will expand how usueful the articles will be to others. Discussing where there is debate is really important, and it's often researchers who have the best knowledge e.g. I'm a historian, so try to add historiographical debate to pages (whether or not that includes my own research).
- Any more questions, please message! Lajmmoore (talk) 11:30, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for these clarifying points. I shall endeavour to do as you suggest. I have come down with sickness so it will be a little while before I set up a user page. But I shall do it. AnnabelleG69! (talk) 18:19, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
