Bail Act 2013
[edit]Hello! Your submission of Bail Act 2013 at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Iselilja (talk) 17:29, 21 January 2015 (UTC)
I've had a go at addressing the reviewer's suggestions, I hope this has made the article better. --110.20.234.69 (talk) 09:07, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
- Is there a bot or tool that I can trigger that automatically consolidates the same references? (So that it goes a, b, c, etc. instead of having different numbers for the same reference.) I've seen one consolidate references before, but that only triggered because I made the article so messy that the bot edited the article on its own. --110.20.234.69 (talk) 09:15, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks. I do know how to do it on my own, but I was hoping there was a bot or tool that I could use to automate the process (and go back later with a search function replacing 'autogenerated1' etc. for something more identifiable). Do you have any advice on how to remove the citations from the lead appropriately, as the reviewer suggested? Most of what they cite is either a quote or not common knowledge. --110.20.234.69 (talk) 00:03, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
- As the lead is supposed to be a summary, the refs should appear inthe relevant place in the body of the article. Make sure that what the lead says is in fact discussed in the body so you can do this. For the press releases and Gov. response, find the places where they belong and move the ref there. Similarly, the Change.org ref should be where that is discussed. For the Act refs themselves (important refs), write the early sentence to include the title so you can reference it there. For example, instead of writing "... the bail law" in the "Need for review" section, write "...the Bail Act (2013)" and add the ref. In short, make sure all the refs are included and put them where the issue is being discussed. Whiteghost.ink (talk) 00:26, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

- I've had a go at making sure the information in the lead is reiterated in the body. Currently, the citation to the text of the Bail Act 2013 is reference 18. The Commission's review was of the 1978 law, so I can't make the switch you suggested there. Would it be appropriate to cite the dates in the information box with the reference to the text of the Bail Act 2013? --110.20.234.69 (talk) 00:59, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
- Not sure what you mean by "cite the dates". A link is now in the body, so that is good and a ref in the box sounds okay to me. However, as the text of the Act is so important to this article (and also so available), I think you could have a ref AND and an External Link. So include the Austlii link and others that give the text of the legislation in the "External Links" section at the bottom. (Style and policy is here: Wikipedia:External links) Then readers' needs should be well-met. Whiteghost.ink (talk) 02:30, 29 January 2015 (UTC)

It looks like there's a provision for external links to the laws and the hansards in the information box, so I've had a go at filling that out some more, and asked its creator for advice on how to handle the two 'assents' (the box only gives space for one, and according to the hansard, both the upper and lower house in NSW assent to legislation). --110.20.234.69 (talk) 07:11, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks - I couldn't have done it without everyone's help and your encouragement and moving it out of draftspace. Hopefully it'll open up new avenues for article creation as well. (Many of the 'most popular' laws on the NSW legislation site don't have their own articles... yet...) Do you have any idea when the article will be featured on the main page? --110.20.234.69 (talk) 10:41, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
- It is in Queue 1 for 2nd February at 11pm Sydney time. Not the best time but that is when it will appear on the front page. See: Template:Did you know/Queue Well done! Whiteghost.ink (talk) 22:33, 31 January 2015 (UTC)
The article seems to be one of the most popular NSW articles of recent times. :) Much of that would have been the front page mention, but it's gratifying nonetheless. --110.20.234.69 (talk) 20:11, 16 March 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, stats here. A steady interest. You have obviously made a valuable contribition to the encyclopedia. :) Whiteghost.ink (talk) 22:29, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Presentation proposal for Wikimania 2015
[edit]How to pick up more women... | |
Hello to the members of WikiProject Women writers! Victuallers and I have developed a proposal for a talk to be presented at Wikimania 2015. It's titled, How to pick up more women -- as in more women editors and more women's biographies. The proposal review process has begun and there's no guarantee that this proposal will be accepted. That's where you come in. Please review our proposal and give us feedback. Ultimately, we hope you add your name to the signup at the bottom of the proposal which signifies you're interested in the talk (it does not signify you'll be attending the event). Thank you! DYK for Overseas Passenger Terminal
[edit]On 9 October 2015, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Overseas Passenger Terminal, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that the Overseas Passenger Terminal, Sydney, is part of the buffer zone of the Sydney Opera House listing for UNESCO World Heritage? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Overseas Passenger Terminal. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Requesting guidance
[edit]Greeetings
It seems you have been working on culture related some articles too. I am requesting your kind guidance for change of name of one article. When I started working on a new article recently, presently named Poles in mythology actual article name was some thing different, actually due to some misunderstandings some one changed name of the article to Poles in mythology. Matter of the fact is I wanted to cover cultural aspects and festive celebrations as an umbrella article and wanted to have historical mythological, worships wherever concerned as a small part of the main article.
Poles in mythology is altogether a different subject when I am doing research and writing cultural aspects of festive celebrations are also coming up simultaneously and I am coming to a conclusion that for covering cultural aspects of festive celebrations of 'pole' we need to have a separate umbrella article altogether so we will not have more confusions and misunderstandings. Either we need to change present article name or split and create a new cultural aspect related article.
Please let me know your openion and if you are positive to my suggessions what should be the new articles name ? In fact you can join in discussion at Talk:Poles_in_mythology#Change_of_article_name
Looking forward to your kind guidance
Thanks and warm regards

Bot automation at Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement
[edit]Greetings WikiProject TAFI members!
Over the past two weeks, there has been extensive discussion on introducing bot automation to assist with maintenance of the Today's Articles for Improvement project. A bot has now been approved for trial and will carry out the weekly duties. The bots first run will occur around 00:00, 22 November 2015 (UTC) (midnight on Sunday).
If you have been assisting any of the weekly maintenance tasks, please refrain from doing so this week. The bot needs to be tested and proven it can do the job, and it only gets one chance per week. The tasks will include:
- Adding the new scheduled article to Wikipedia talk:Today's articles for improvement and removing the entry from Wikipedia:Articles for improvement
- Set up the schedule pages for the new TAFI, except the adding of an image and caption
- Adding {{TAFI}} to the new article for improvement, remove {{TAFI}} from last week's article and add {{Former TAFI}} to the talk page
- Notify relevant WikiProjects that the new TAFI is within their scope
- Send a mass message to everyone on the notification list of the new TAFI selection
Updating the accomplishments and archiving selections is still done manually, along with daily tasks such as adding approved entries to the articles for improvement page. These will become automated in the near future.
We hope the bot proves to serve well, and by carrying out the routine housekeeping tasks we can boost the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project. MusikBot thanks you for your service in helping with the weekly tasks in the past, and for your cooperation during this trial period :)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
