[edit]German current national anthem (Q4122341) vs. German historic national anthem (Q44042)
[edit]Items involved: Q4122341Talk, Q44042Talk | Status: not resolved
The first Item is the current German national anthem. This is only the 3rd verse of the old/historic national anthem which is the second Item. --Sk!d (talk) 19:52, 5 February 2013 (UTC)
Hello, the title of this section is not totally accurate. Q...42 is a concrete patriotic song of the 19th century ("Das Lied der Deuteschen", serving since 1922 as the German national anthem), and Q...41 is the German national anthem, a position that has been filled in by different songs. Some language versions have this neat distinction, as German Wikipedia, others take Q...42 (the song) and treat it as if it were the same (e.g., Dutch Wikipedia). By the way, I think that the aliases in the items should be altered. / This problem occurs with several national anthems. In the USA and France, for example, the specific song and the anthem are more or less the same. In Austria, there have been changes, but nonetheless, German Wikipedia has a redirect from "Land der Berge, Land am Strome" to "Österreichische Bundeshymne" [Austrian Federal anthem] (Q126658) (the song is the anthem only since 1947). The German article treats "previous Austrian anthems". Ziko (talk) 14:18, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Q5378501 discusses mechanical advantage; Q2403634 discusses gear ratios. The En-wiki interlanguage links are in significant conflict. The ones I haven't been able to resolve are: da:Gearing, de:Übersetzung_(Technik) eo:Transmisia rilatumo, and sv:Kraftöverföring. Q48349/Q499146 (Empire/Imperium)
[edit]Items involved: Q48349Talk, Q499146Talk | Status: not resolved
Q48349 seems to concern the concept empire in general, while Q499146 concerns "imperium" in a more specific Roman context. I'm not sure in which group la:imperium itself belongs. I'm also not sure about the Slavic languages. Most of them seem to have an -i(j)a ending for general "empire" and a latin -ium ending for the specific Roman. Bosnian bs:Imperija is however connected to the second group, and instead they have bs:Carstvo (as also Serbian Царство etc) in the general Q48349 group. Are these basically synonyms? The apparently cognate Croatian term hr:Carstva is strangely connected to Q1211369 (The empire on which the sun never sets). Hope some speaker of Slavic languages could check if the correct articles are connected. --Wikijens (talk) 09:23, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Items involved: Q1125312Talk, KultivierungTalk | Status: partially resolved
In the German WP there are 2 articles: de:Bakterienkultur is contained in Q1125312 and you can see similarities to en:Microbiological culture. But the article de:Kultivierung is about the same topic, describing more how to get a microbiological culture, it can be compared with es:Cultivo (microbiología), but this Spanish article is part of Q1125312. In nl:Reincultuur (microbiologie) – also part of Q1125312 – the topic is „Reincultuur“ (= „Reinkultur“ in German), which matches a chapter of de:Kultivierung. I don't speak enough French or any of the other languages to compare the content of the articles in Q1125312, but it looks like there is need for more than one Wikidata item. Some languages have one word for 2 (first or last). Present order(may be wrong?): plane figure / curve / its length. Also in topology - more general set. Infovarius (talk) 20:15, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
I think the questions about the curve and its length are quite set, but I'm concerned with the bounded figure (the surface inside a circle). ro:Disc (formă geometrică) and fr:Disque (géométrie) deal with the planar figure, but they are linked to en:Disk (mathematics) and ca:Disc (topologia) an es:Disco (topología) and other articles which are about the topological concept of disk. I think ro:Disc (formă geometrică) and fr:Disque (géométrie) should be moved to link to ca:Cercle and es:círculo (linking those to en:area of a disk is debatable but I think it's useful, too).--Pere prlpz (talk) 16:23, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

There's only one Occitan article in Q9005 which was created by a bot (why?). It refers to Brussel/Bruxelles as a city of 1 mln inhabitants, which is factually incorrect. That article should be deleted, and as a result Q9005 could cease to exist as well. I've asked the WP.OC admin Boular to look into it. --Midas02 (talk) 09:17, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Probably a systematic mistake – frwiki mentions three concepts, not 2:
Littledogboy (talk) 14:13, 2 September 2013 (UTC) Ok, I've done some clean-up between Q239/Q240 and tried to put the articles in the correct categories. The ones that don't belong to either, the left-overs, have been added to Q9005. However. I checked all languages, and the vast majority of the articles are extremely faulty, probably because they were translated from other articles which were faulty to start with, so chosing between Q239 and Q240 is sometimes arbitrary. Much more can't be done without rewriting each and every article. They are combining data of the municipality with those of the region, leading to hybrid articles that are neither one nor the other. They often describe Brussels as a city of 1 mln inhabitants, which would correspond to the greater Brussels region. But with the institutionary reforms of 1989, the greater Brussels area was turned into an official region - not a city -, la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale, so all articles in Q9005 should ultimately be merged with the ones in Q240. The concept of Q9005 was discussed and rejected about 3 years ago in WP.NL because it doesn't offer anything else than wat Q240 should already be describing. For correct data about Q239 and Q240, please check WP.NL and not WP.FR as the latter contains numerous mistakes as well. --Midas02 (talk) 01:48, 6 September 2013 (UTC) |

in most languages, the articles on games of chance and gambling are the same (the rare exceptions are English, Catalan, Hebrew and Indonesian). In most cases, the literal translation of that article is "game(s) of chance" (jeu de hasard, Glückspiel, Juegos de azar, Hasartmäng, Igra na srečo and so on). Having an item for games of chance is very useful to classify other items but the current situation makes this difficult. One possibility is to merge the en.wiki article to either en:Gambling or en:Game classification but I'm sure someone has a better idea.

Well, I'm pleased to announce that I believe I've beaten my own record for largest interwiki conflict , and I'm now gonna annoy everyone by throwing it up here for review. In summary, various international versions of the show Wheel of Fortune were erroneously linked to Wheel of Fortune (Q303064). Think that's all of them. The ones I think I'm mostly likely to have made a mistake on were the Hebrew, Spanish, Polish, and Hungarian ones. I also tried to clean up any conflicting local language links (which will probably lead to my getting blocked on a bunch of random wikis :P ), but I'm not positive I got them all. There may also be some unlinked entries on local 'pedias that can be tied to some of these, or items that can be merged. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 07:53, 21 June 2013 (UTC) |

Before the rollout of this Wikidata approach to interwiki links, it was possible to create a link from one independent article to a subsection of an article on another wiki. For some reason en.wp has decided that list of heads of state of Spain (Q14755848) and list of Spanish monarchs (Q173053) should be separate lists, despite the fact that they're almost identical, meaning that we have to decide which other-language articles go where. So far, I've moved sk:Zoznam hláv štátu Španielska from the latter to the former, but others are definitely candidates—it:Sovrani di Spagna, for instance, despite translating to "sovereigns of Spain," includes several non-monarchs. — PinkAmpers&(Je vous invite à me parler) 18:45, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Blackberries are the fruit of the bramble bush. The problem is, in most languages the article for "blackberry" doesn't focus on a specific species of bramble. Instead, they usually cover a whole range of different species lumped together. In some Wikipedias, the ambiguous term Rubus fruticosus is used. Arguably, we should have two items, one for the berry (symbolism, culinary usages, tradition role in medicine, etc.) and one for the plant (botanical information, kinship with other plants, etc.), but I don't know to what extent the present two items follow this division across the different languages. Most language versions have only one of these articles, the other being a redirect or non-existent. The existing article typically describes both the story and the character. However some languages, notably Italian and Chinese, have distinct articles with non-trivial content. I think that merging these items on wikidata would make more sense than creating separate pages in most languages. Before proceeding, the editors in language versions that have two articles should be notified and advised to merge the articles in their language. Here is the list of articles to merge (5 languages) as reported by the wikidata merge wizard:

Agricultural science and Agronomy
[edit]Items involved: Q3606845Talk, Q173113Talk | Status: partially resolved
In Italian agronomia is a branch of scienze agrarie, called also agraria (See [1] e [2]). In English agronomy is a branch of Agricultural science as well (see: [3] and [4], [5]. I don't expect distinction to be perfect (and I am not giving any one because it would take too much time and space, I let you do your own research on the sources), but it is clear that in some language the first "term" is less generic than the second. Unfortunately, in other languages the same root close to "agronomy" is probably used for the generic term. For example in French "sciences agraires" is a rare expression and many dictionares translate the italian "agraria"(="scienze agrarie") with "agronomie". I have the feeling that Pflanzenbauwissenschaften and Agrarwissenschaften should be inverted between the two items or at least the last one should be moved to Q3606845. In conclusion, there is quite a mess. Just take a look in the interwikis in en:agricultural science. I tried to remove the "free" interwikis but I was reverted by a user who didn't reply to my message. So, can we just try to revise with reliable sources if the interwikis are ok?--Alexmar983 (talk) 22:03, 14 November 2013 (UTC)

In music there are two terms related to Q298126 (in some languages they are spelled differently): a sequence of chords and the end of a musical composition. Q1069389 should only include the end and Q14088448 should only include the sequence. Q298126 and Cadence (Q2665078) are disambiguations. sh:Solistička kadenca and sr:Солистичка каденца (Q1069389) are "sub-disambiguations" (even not really) dealing only with these two terms. They should be either connected in a separate item, or moved to the right item. Then sr:Каденца (Q298126) should be moved to Q1069389. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 20:10, 16 November 2013 (UTC) |

[edit]Mitteleuropa
[edit]Items involved: Q27509Talk, Q3498665Talk | Status: not resolved
The German-language wiki has a single article "Mitteleuropa / Zentraleuropa". The English-language wiki has two separate articles, Central Europe Q27509 and Mitteleuropa Q3498665. I can't link the English-language Mitteleuropa Q3498665 to the German-language Mitteleuropa because Q27509 already points there.

Q14919740 (in Persian: پایگاه دانش) is the same subject for "Knowledge base" in English. The link between these articles in two Persian wikis (Tajik and Farsi) and other wikis (including English wiki) has been broken. They need to be merged, or one of them should be deleted. There is a big mess in categories dealing with pigs and related taxa. There should be different intems for categories for suborder Suida, for family Suidae, for genus Sus, for species Sus scrofa, for domestic pigs and for races of pigs. Now all them are messed in a single item, with lots of categories linked by local interwikis. The fact that different wikipedias chosed different meanings for the translation of "category:pigs" (some ones as the genus, some ones just for domestic pigs, and so) doesn't help.--Pere prlpz (talk) 15:08, 13 December 2013 (UTC) |

These items seem to be linked already by their taxonomic names ("Nardostachys grandiflora" and "Nardostachys jatamansi") and thus I get an error when trying to link enWiki "Spikenard" to deWiki "Indische Narde". If I look up "Nardostachys jatamansi" or "Nardostachys grandiflora" in the german or english wikipedia's search box, I am redirected to either "Indische Narde" or "Spikenard", but the interwiki links to english/german are missing. It would be useful if they'd be available there too. --Maikek (talk) 12:09, 20 December 2013 (UTC) |
